    I have a lot of red oak scrap wood from my Talharpa project. It's the perfect amount and shapes to make a Morin Khuur. Thank you so much for this video. Super helpful 👍

    Do you have the specification of what types of woods were used and the dimensions. How does it sound when played?

      This Morin Khuur neck and horse head is one piece of redwood, the body panel use plywood,fingerboard use oakwood and body side panel use hardwood form Africa. The Morin Khuur is one meter long, the body dimensions : top side panel is 18 cm, bottom panel is 28 cm. the body is 35 cm high and 10 cm thick.You can refer to the video at this link :ruclips.net/video/eCN72fP2TR4/видео.html, there are more detailed dimensions there.the tone of this Morin Khuur is normal, a little dull . reommend you buy Acoustic Guitar Wood to make body and panel,the sound will be more better.

    Did you use fishing line for strings and how thick is it? And how many lines did you use for one string? Great job sir.

      Thank you for your compliment, I haven't tried fishing line, I bought the strings from the EBAY, according to my knowledge, there are about 160 bass strings and 120 treble strings,and the string is very thin, similar to hair.

    13:27 what kind of wood did you use in this join? it is spruce? i just wondering for what purpose is this join. it wouldn't be easier if you did it from one piece of wood?

    • @woodworkingart4557
      @woodworkingart4557  2 года назад +2

      It is redwood,the same as the neck and horse head.Yes, you are right,it would be easier if just did it from one piece of wood! But in the end ,the Morin Khuur neck should be go through the body and keep the neck in the middle of the top of the body,and the position connected to the bottom of the body is also specified, one peice of wood with a craved horse's head will be difficult to adjust,keep level and keep centered.

      @@woodworkingart4557 thanks, i'll try to make this beautiful instrjment, for the strings i'm going to try with fishing line, i hope it works.
      Last questions, wich are the other dimensions of neck? Like width and thickness.
      Thanks

    • @woodworkingart4557
      @woodworkingart4557  Год назад +1

      @@leandrobellido3616 You're welcome. The thickness and width of this neck gradually transition form wide at both ends to narrow at the middle, The thickness at both ends of the neck is 1.5 inches,and the width is 1.25 inches. The thickness in the middle of the neck is 1.25 inches and width is 1 1/8 inches(about 1.125 inches).
      I feel that the thinner fishing line can be used as its string.

    the build got worse as the video progressed. He clamped what appeared to be balsa wood that he used for the bass bar. Spruce would have been the ideal choice.
    The back should have been some sort of hardwood and the top made of spruce. Instead, he used a plywood for both back and top. The corner blocks are HUGE. Instead of using a traditional hide glue he used a modern tight bond which is a water based poly-glue.
    by clamping and unclamping the bass bar the bass bar sides were ruined and compressed. Not that it matters since he used some sort of soft wood. I think the corner blocks are the same softwood used in the bass bar construction.
    regardless of how well the end product might be, because of how it was made, the instrument will never have its full acoustic potential. The heavy corner blocks, the plywood top and back and the softwood bass bar are the tale of how poorly this build was done. It was crudely assembled and the work is shoddy at best. I'd never buy nor use this instrument for the reasons mentioned here.
    I did violin and guitar repair for a while. I studied and learned the techniques of the tools, wood and products used in string instruments. I also know that the mongols often used hide glues for a large part of the construction works they did. It was important in making the variety of stringed instruments they invented, developed and created over thousands of years. Not a very good build and I am not impressed.
