    This is so great.
    Bowed lyre players should watch this video.
    I started making my own rosin from scratch this year and I am wondering if there are traditional methods that can be shared. I'm just figuring it out on my own and so far I prefer it over the store-bought ones. I play horse hair strings with a horse hair bow also. But my strings are twisted.

    Hello, Steve! You said the dark rosin is better because it is stronger. I found here two types of dark rosin. One for violin, viola and cello, and another for bass. Will the first one work? Or it's better to use Bass rosin? Thank you very much for your answers. They are helping me a lot.

    • @uuguul
      @uuguul  3 года назад +1

      Yeah Rosin for Viola or Cello will definitely work :)

  • @Carnifindion
    @Carnifindion 4 года назад +1

    Great video and great series. But I'm curious, what would they have used in the past for rosin? Or have they always been using rosin?

    • @uuguul
      @uuguul  4 года назад +1

      Interesting question :) Yeah in old level they already mentioned the Rosin, they also mention the "saliva" of the male camel in period of reproduction. Maybe you already saw that during that period the male camel have a kind of "white foam" around their mouth, and in some legend they say that they rubbed this "foam" on the string to gain "grip" :)
      Rosin is just a natural material coming from wood so even in ancestral time that was "easy" to find :)

    You used a different bow to demonstrate the traditional holding. Is it possible to use the traditional holding with the first bow you showed?

    • @uuguul
      @uuguul  3 года назад +1

      As explained in the video you can use any of the holding with either modern or traditional bow.. of course modern holding is more comfortable on modern bow and traditional holding on traditional bow..
      It is really up to your comfort and taste :) as well as what kind of song and play style you want :)

    Hello Mr. Morel! Can I use a Cello bow or a Bass bow? Is there much diference from a Morin khuur bow? What do you recomend?

    • @uuguul
      @uuguul  4 года назад +2

      Well the way Cello / Violin bow are made and Morin Huur bow are made are quite different, you can eventually use a Cello Bow just for an exceptional moment but I would definitely recommend you to get a Morin Huur bow as the holding is quite different, also I think that the size is different as well... :)
      If you need to order a Morin Huur bow I can help you with that!

    what is the string length on yout morin khuur bow? merci

    • @uuguul
      @uuguul  2 года назад

      For my bow I made it custom for some specificities so it is a little bit longer than the "standard". For the standard modern bow usually the length of the hair is around 70cm.
