It ran for 33 hours on the dyno and consumed 1100 plus litres of fuel without a single hickup.

Dude I've seen a Genuine Ford introduction booklet for mechanics on these engines and they are a beautiful piece of Australian Art! It even has oil squirters that run along the top of the rocker cover to provide oil to both the cams! No matter what car manufacturer you prefer this engine is a masterpiece of Australian Engineering!!!

The Aussie Ford 4.0 straight six made at Ford's Melbourne Engine Plant is a brilliant engine and it's extremely under-rated.
When you add a turbo, the 4.0L engine's power output is just enormous for a six cylinder engine.
I'm lucky enough to own a FPV (Ford Performance Vehicle) F6 310 FG, but it did cost me an extra $1000 with just one speeding fine alone.

What about a 2JZ? They can make crazy power, and is 3.0L. :)

lowrider649 I agree, but as far as I know you can get more power out of a 2JZ.

Tom clark Very true, the XR6 will EASILY outclass it in terms of torque, the 2JZ is worthless when it comes to torque.

The standard 4 litre in line six engine produces a healthy 183 kw. So for the engine to handle 750 shaft kw is very impressive. Testament to the good engineering & strength of this great Aussie engine.

Back in the early 1960's Ford North America shipped first gen Falcon tooling to Australia when the second gen Falcon went into production in the USA. Ford stopped building the Falcon in the US in 1970, but Ford Oz continued to develop the Falcon platform locally. The engine in this vid shares a common heritage with the inline 6 engine Ford built in the US in the 60's/70's. Where Ford USA quit the I6, the folks in Oz continued to develop theirs and this the result. Good job Ford Oz.

i digg that it was an australian company to finally make a big 6 turbo for a stock car.... still the strength of a 1jz for when it was built (from 1990) is pretty impressive.... but the inline 4ltrs are just that bit more impressive....probably the best "bang for buck" engine out there,, so easy to extract power

  • @stug45

That is not a blow off valve, its a Wastegate.
That is called an external wastegate.
Most turbo's have them internally from standard production cars.
A blow off valve is totally different.

Brake horse power is taken from the drive shaft before the gearbox. The term brake is the device used to measure it, not the cars brakes (which would have sweet FA to do with horsepower output).

too much gas restriction is perhaps the cause of the amazing heat glow, but a streamlined exhaust would nearly be impossible to fabricate because its trying to pump into the turbine housing where the exhaust has to pass the turbine wheel. Its the turbine that causes the high pressure area just outside the flange. Thats where trimmed blades and other design tricks come in.

@stevo332 I am an Aussie Mechanic. Keeping looking mate because you have not found a falcon motor with its potential completely 'unlocked' in this video. This motor is built for a street machine. And whether you choose to believe it or not will probably last for a long long time because the are an exceptionally strong motor. But just so you know there are 4 litres out there making near 2000hp but hp is the wrong figure to look at. This falcon probably has around 1300 NM of torque!

It would make the same power, because they would each flow half of the exhaust. You might get a little more power earlier due to the quicker spoolup of the smaller turbos, but the peak hp would be the same.

  • @stug45

    Simple question, simple answer...
    In a word..."santions."
That big blower takes around 800hp from the crank just to be able to run it and they weigh a ton too!
If given the option, Im sure that top-fuel guys would opt for turbos.

Actually that 3.5 will outperform a normally aspirated Aussie I6, and there will be a 400+ HP TwinForce turbo version of that engine. BTW the 3.5 is not at all like the 3.0 Duratec, it fetures direct acting valve lifters-right under the cam - decent.

I know some are even built in Austrailia (not the ones in the U.S. of course) It is a codevelopment but doesn't change the fact its a holden. Kinda like the Lumina SS (UAE) or the Pontiac G8 (U.S.) or the Chevy Caprice in Saudi Arabia just a Holden with a LS1 chevy motor.

@northsfinest100 Yes, it's the exact same straight 6, but the turbo FPV used in the 'Phoon is larger. In that car, you'd be getting a GT3540 turbo while the XR6T has the GT3040.

You cant run the manifold too much different than that - it wont clear the shock tower, K-frame or engine mounting position. The heat in the pipes are not too excessive as they are stainless.

There is no second bank. There is no second turbo.
Nowhere does it say it's a V6. The engine is a 4.0l straight 6, found in the Australian Ford XR6's. Runners 2,3,4, and 5 are clearly visible in the middle curl of the manifold. Runner 1 is right in front, and runner 6 is slightly hidden behind the others but can be seen if you look closely.
