The performer in this recording is Anahit Nersesyan (Pianist, The Meritorious Artist of Armenia, Professor of Yerevan State Conservatory named after Komitas, 1st prize winner of J. S. Bach International Competition in Leipzig 1980)
Arno Babajanian - Poem (1966) It was composed for the Moscow Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition and was included in the 1966 Third Competition repertoire as an obligatory work.
This is a truly fantastic piece and Babadjanian deserves to be much better known on the basis of this piece alone. Mind you it does seem to be a one-off stylistically compared to his other, more folk music-based compositions so that may partly explain his relative obscurity. But this is brilliant stuff and an exciting performance
so Finissy & Sorabji DID have a love child...brilliant! slow to start but a total 180 midway. i still wonder if this is really Sorabji under a different musical pseudonym.

brilliant, original, a fascinating statement
Hermosísimas obras, que transmitem mucho sentimiento y requieren especial dominio técnico y sonoro del piano.

This is killer. Ravel: Le Tombeau du Bartok
It would be great to know who is playing. The touch and phrasing is simply elegant.
Babajanyan himself..
Thanks for posting this musicaignotus!
Composer - Arno Babajanyan
fucking sick
brilliance.
20th Century Concertpieces from Russia and Eastern Europe, published by Edition Peters. I just looked it up on a website. It's available.
Is anyone else really reminded of Vill-Lobos' Rudepoema? Especially towards the end?
@trees1 um yeh.. precisely my point! there is some creative license to the "total serialsim"
@JacktotheT Those are not serialized and freely added upon.
Who is performing?
Probably the composer himself. Babajanyan has performed and recorded all hes works
so Finissy & Sorabji DID have a love child...brilliant! slow to start but a total 180 midway. i still wonder if this is really Sorabji under a different musical pseudonym.
This is why I love Bach
@trees1 lol nah, what about the semibreves/ dotted minims we see? :P

其實有點難
When Babajanyan was composing this piece he was drunk (true story)
