Why are people arguing about Shining On being punk or not ? This is ska! Insanely good ska for that matter.

This is not pure Ska. I get that it is Ska inspired and certainly has some characteristics but what Ska today is usually more fast and has more brass instrument. e.g. Streetlight, Toasters, Planet smashers...
Its a nice tune so it doesnt matter anyway but I had the need to say this ;)

I hate commenting to correct people, but this needs saying. "Real ska" is Jamaican music from the 50s and 60s so don't pull that elitist bs. Even before the bands you listed, which are all part of third wave, you had two-tone over in the UK in the 70s and early 80s. Third wave ska is much more akin to punk than original ska music. I realize this all sounds like I'm being a dick, but trust that is not my intention. Only pointing out that this is just as "ska" as the bands you listed (all part of third wave).
So you are saying this is either first or second wave? Because i just wrote my comment because I think it does not sound like any of the 3 waves.
I know about the roots of Ska music and stuff, but I appreciate that you gave that information. Although I have to admit that with my comment you could probatly understand it the way you did. I dont listen to first wave at all, but Toasters are definitly second Wave.
For me ska is first, second or third wave, plus that punkish self proclaimed forth wave from bands like Kill Lincoln or Streetlight Manifesto.
And for me this tune isn´t. But it sounds good and I like it.

Working at a wine distributor once I broke a thousand dollars bottle. It just smashed into bits. A thousand dollars in wine on my sneakers and the floor. The worst part is you had to walk through it to be able to clean it up so their was a step trail, everyone knew.
