Yes, it does sound terrifying. But I don’t think it’s a mystery at all why it happened. My daughter is close to her age - 30 years old now. 5 1/2 years ago, my daughter had to have emergency surgery. Both her lungs and the tube that connects them were completely compacted with blood clots. It was a saddle pulmonary embolism caused but a bad reaction to birth control. She flatlined on the table and the doctor and medical team Thank God were able to revive her. It sounds a lot like a blood clot could have broken free of Aubrey’s lungs in a similar circumstance and hit her brain, causing the stroke. It’s nothing to mess with. Both she and my daughter are very lucky to be alive.

Obviously for over 99% of us we will never get to know her personally, but it would definitely be incredibly fascinating to have her as a friend to see who she really is.
She has always been so good at keeping the entirety of her persona a complete mystery. Is she acting? Is she serious? Only she knows the truth.. and it's always been fascinating to try and reconcile the covert clues as she pretends to let us all peek behind the curtain. Is she a tortured soul in desperate need of rehab? Is she the therapist we all need? In reality, it's probably both. In a league of her own where she has mastered the art of awkwardness as comedy. She's doing well. Good for her.
My theory is that the biggest factor in whether Dave likes people is if their brains are sharp, and he dislikes them if they're dimwitted. You can tell that he likes Aubrey.
The best part is Letterman trying to figure out if she's doing a bit or not, and once she senses that he knows, then she changes the script... awesome!

I had expressive aphasia when I had my strokes. The only word I can say while I was having the 1st stroke was "wait". After I woke up 2 days later after I was helicoptered to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA and ended up in intensive care the only word I can say was "yellow". The next day I was normal and had NO deficits at all. After 2 wks. I was released only to have another mild stroke 4 hrs. after I got released. Aubrey Plaza is wonderful and I love her humor. She is real with it.
If she had chosen to transfer her comedic talents to the field of martial arts she could have held an advanced belt in judo I'm pretty sure. She seems to have perfected the art of turning around the verbal energy and momentum of her 'opponent' and using it to her own comedic advantage, all the while expending very little energy of her own.. This is what judokas do in the physical realm. Requires great timing and economy of effort, both of which she seems to possess in great abundance.
for a good while there thru the stroke story, I was so entertained it was as tho I was detached from the physical world, and all my awareness was focused on these two interacting.
I absolutely love her and her weirdness! But, I kind of feel sorry for all those people with similar personalities that never could make a career out of it. Just know, people, that it's okay! You are loved!

I'm shocked to hear she suffered a stroke at 20. I'm glad she recovered & props to her for discussing it with such a positive attitude. I watch all her interviews because she has the most unique sense of humor in Hollywood. And those legs are killing me.
I can relate to Aubrey. I had torn rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder and when I woke up from the operation I had no feeling in my arm. I thought it was somebody else’s too… a very strange feeling. She’s soooo funny and awkward… it’s impossible not to love her!

The reason I said my autistic radar was only because I've usually been able to pick up on. I did not say others had it. I just notice behaviors in myself and what I read online and apply. I love Aubrey, she's super funny and very cool but I just saw her movie EMILY THE CRIMINAL and she is a terrific dramatic actress too.
