I dive all black except for tanks (steel color) but after diving in low viz with buddies donning white, yellow, orange and even pink fins, I find staying together much easier and will most likely invest in a brighter shade when my current black ones expire. Same with my SMB, I find yellow is easier to see from afar than my current orange, so I will seek that color when the time comes
When doing my side mount class they caught me off guard, asking what color I wanted my regs. I asked for green, not thinking about the fact that the rest of my gear is red. I have been dubbed “Christmas tree”
Sharks don't necessarily prefer yellow in particular, but a number of shark species are attracted to any high-contrast color, such as yellow, orange, or red. Nhamm nhamm Dress on those red rescue suits and red helmet, some species will single you out from a group of divers at a shallow dive since that most colors will turn black at a dive of 30 meters.
Sometimes, If I am leading a group, I will wear a black fin and a pink fin. This helps the people in the group to identify me. I also have a red strobe attached to my tank so they can easily see me.

Yes, colorful gear is much easier to spot! 💪🏻🙌🏻
Me: any colour as long as it fits/works correctly
Teenage daughter: ninja black for absolutely everything.

I dive in all black. I always have (40 + years). That's my preference.
Never thought about changing in 40 years? Must definitely be a good option then! 😅😎👌🏻
@@divewithlaura I tried lime green shortie wetsuit once. I used it for teaching. I used it in a pool once and it faded because of the chlorine.
@@divewithlaura I do have a bright yellow smilie face on the bottom of each of my fins.

@@sentinal001no way so fast?? That’s sad 😢
has anyone ever heard of black and white stripes, as a deterrent to sharks?
I only know about white fins being mistaken for fish by sharks, but I don’t know anything about black and white stripes, sorry 🫣
