What a great battle. When the Super X just unloads everything it has, it looks amazing. Some of the best miniature work in the whole franchise

I agree. I especially loved the part when G first blew a hole through the building to reveal the Super X. G growled at it then the hunt was on. Goes to show, don't piss off the G Man. He can hold a grudge.
Got this movie on Blu Ray, and it looks great.
I often expect nothing less from the likes of Teruyoshi Nakano.
3:10 money shot from hell
I love how small Godzilla is compared to the skyscrapers at the time. I’m really glad with the direction they took with the Heisei series.
Eeyup, it shows humanity going bigger with their skyscrapers.
This scene made such a massive impact on me as a kid… even 30 years later, I still remember the theme of the Super X!

Seeing all that advanced weaponry and my boy just taking it like it’s nothing. The first Super X battle was truly memorable.

Godzilla 1985. Saw this in the movie theater. We gave Godzilla a standing ovation when he dropped the building on super x.
One of the best human vs. Godzilla fights in the series. I love how the Super X uses the buildings as cover (because at this point, why not?) as they hit-and-run, all while Godzilla relentlessly pursues them. I'd love to see a battle like this done with modern effects.

It’s obvious that the Super X was meant to be something new and unexpected, to show that humanity had evolved its arms technology over the course of 30 years between 1954 and 1984. Definitely one of Godzilla’s most underrated opponents.
Yeah because unlike the basic things that the JSDF used to stop Godzilla like tanks, jets, destroyers etc
This new weapon that they created when Godzilla returns to wreak havoc on tokyo is probably the most impressive and probably effective on Godzilla and it’s surely underrated like you said.

I saw this in the movies. I remember thinking that Godzilla was truly evil when he toppled the skyscraper to smash the Super X. This was such a departure from the earlier (70s) movies with Godzilla being a good guy. Remember, at this point, Godzilla hasn't been evil since Godzilla vs the Thing which came out 20 years earlier

Who could forget that heroic and triumphant music? I'm 43 and haven't seen this since I was a kid, but most scenes stay with me better than a lot of movies that came out in the last decade.
Despite this movie not introducing any new foe for Godzilla to battle, we at least got something with the Super X.
Its such a great battle.. the cadmium seemingly put Godzilla down for an undetermined amount if time.. the nuke accelerates the process and hes raging after the Super X. They panic and try to get away, as they get away the director tried to preserve the Super X dignity by playing its heroic theme even as it retreats.. Godzilla is not having it an dhe blasts through a building seemingly killing the Super X music track.. then it unloads in desperation as Godzilla starts to tank the damage.. just great stuff
This movie has insanely good effects. That real model of the Super X flying goes so well with the suit and beams don’t really look fake, not to mention it doesn’t even move like a toy
They also used real glass for the miniature buildings, which also added to the realism.
Even outside the Godzilla universe, Super X is a pretty badass gunship.

This movie was my favorite as a young kid. I actually still remember a nightmare i had as a child after watching this. It scared the crap out of me 😆
Something that I find interesting, somewhere (either in a book or an interview) it's stated that M.O.G.U.E.R.A. was a combination of future tech taken from Mecha King Ghidora, what humanity learned from building Mechagodzilla, and plans recovered from the Mysterian's failed invasion of earth.
If that's the case, it retroactively makes the oddly advanced Super X and it's derivatives make more sense. If earth had been getting slapped by aliens and other monsters while Godzilla wasn't around, it's logical to assume humanity had been taking tech from various places and duplicating it.
I’m so happy that this movie has clips online that I can watch. Forever will be my favorite of the franchise.
For me, this Godzilla is the best of the best.
This is a stand out battle for me for the Heisei era. Top quality miniature and camera work honestly. It felt like they were legitimately fighting in a city rather than on a set.
1984 was a good year for films
It really did, and you can really appreciate the work that went into this film on blu-ray.

In the movie Godzilla (1984), Akira Toriyama, Mangaka of Dr Slump and his most famous manga, Dragon Ball potrayed crowding in the escape of Godzilla
Toriyama was a huge Godzilla Fan, He and Tomoyuki Tanaka were the Legends of our childhood 🫱🏻🫲🏼

I always feel like the damage Godzilla caused to Tokyo here was minimal. Nothing really compared to the '54 event but then after the Super X nearly kills him and he gets back up Godzilla was just not having it. 1:20 straight out of a horror movie. Some of these shots of the miniatures being destroyed look so realistic and haunting.
Absolutely love the sound effects coming from Super X when it straight up Alpha Strikes with all guns blazing!

I love the Super X but it should have been deployed in conjunction with other offensive units to support it. The biggest thing you want to exploit is a kaiju's weight and size against it. Go for the legs and feet to slow it down and cripple it. If it has wings cripple the wings.

I would say this scene, along with the scene where Godzilla annihilated the Japanese army on the bridge, are two of my favorite scenes in a Godzilla film. I mean, he defeated the Super X by dropping a skyscraper on it. And knocked it down with one arm! Fantastic!

Man after all these years I still find it funny that in The Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Biollante the Super X 1 and the Super X 2 had their own theme song.

Godzilla is a menace in this film. He behaves very animal like. But if you fight back he'll either melt you with a radiation beam or drop a building on you just to make sure your finished off. Man I miss this Godzilla.
So I'm obviously reading too deep into it but.
Up until this point, Godzilla was just an angry animal, the only evidence of intelligence was him seeking out a nuclear reactor to power up. then he goes out of his way to Drop a building on Super X and you kinda understand that this version of Godzilla REALLY hates us lol.
Maybe unintentionally, but that's a good way to have a rubber suit display a lot of personality. I think thats one of the reasons i love these movies so much. They're obviously cheesy, but i love that too.

This movie was and still is a classic.
It’s astounding how superior this film looked compared to anything that came out in the 90’s and early 2000’s. I’m sad that the latter G films ditched the fully animatronic head for later films. Godzilla feels like a real animal in this film and oh that roar. Scariest since the 1954 film.

Biollante was next on Godzilla's hit list(1989) two years BEFORE King Ghidorah(1991),Mothra & Battra(1992),Radon(Rodan) & Super Mecha Godzilla(1993),Space Godzilla & Moguera(1994) ending with Destroyah(1995).

This was the first godzilla movie I'd ever seen. I'd always thought of him as a bad guy. then missed majority of the next few godzilla movies until I got to the american 1998 godzilla. Where he wasn't really a bad guy just an animal looking for a place to lay eggs and then defending the turf he claimed. (new york city)
