First off, it's not the roofers fault. Second, you owe that man a bonus. That was above and beyond. I can't remember when I was skinny enough to do that.
yep same happens to our conduit if we run to close to the roof. NEC states no closer than 1.5 inches from a roof line.Great job young man Ive never witnessed anyone going in through the soffit, but now I know it can be done,
We need more people like him. He also is a sider and skilled Tin Knocker to put the soffit back together. I do that stuff all the time because it’s my job
This just happened to me. What came first the line set or new roof. Line set wins roofer paying for a new 50 ft. line set installation and 9 lbs. of R22 Freon. Contractors are always responsible for any damage created to property during the scope of work. Secondly always be aware where the line sets are running before nailing, in my case it was a vaulted ceiling 20 ft. and down the wall outside clearly visible to a roofer. I know it sucks but that's why you fix your mistakes or your bonding company will.. That guy was awesome, thanks for the video.
"Another good one !! Why do I do this all day then come home and watch it ?? Gotta love it." I guess it's because we like what we do! Glad I am not a happy grocery bagger! I had one 2 yrs ago where the install company ran the track pipe for the furnace against the roof and the roofers popped the gas line! But the access was much better.
I was gunna comment on replacing that section and swedging both ends to make an easier repair but at the end that’s exactly what you did. Good work fellas. Must feel great having a great team
I was in that situation 3 years ago. Roofers punctered a nail in the lineset the installers ran. it was a 1500 dollar bill rooferes were gonna have to pay. However they got out of it because according to code. Any type of piping had to be 2 inches from the room due to possible nail puncter. And the lineset was against the roof sheathing
I seriously wonder how that ladder did not slide down the wall. Just an extra two inches where the ladder feet was below the concrete slab would have been more stable. I am thankful it did not slide when the second guy mounted the ladder at the top.
As much as I usually can blame roofers many times, I agree the roofers are not to blame here. A homeowner with 3 condensers can afford to pay for the HVAC call. I do like that new soffit access panel!
#1- I've been watching your videos for a long time and I've never seen anybody besides you in the videos. I almost felt like the installers didn't really exist. 😂 #2 - I did not know you could access an attic through the soffit. I am befuddled and bewildered. 🤣
Ted, timely video! Just had a new roof put on 9/7 and 9/8 and on 9/9 my 23 year old Trane AC split system in the attic is leaking freon! I called two AC companies told me the system is old and need a new system! The project roofing manager said he wanted "to check my attic" for something and didn't say what he was checking. I'm going to check my split system in the attic to see if I find any roof nails.
I once had an electrician stab a screw through a liquid line because he hung the AC disconnect box with a 6” screw instead of a 1” that wouldn’t hit the lineset inside the wall.
other side of the roof, suction line and a team of roofers laying and banging with air nailers? not a chance, either wearing ear plugs/headphones/buds or half deaf after 30 seconds. unless it happened to blast oil/liquid out through the roof. say the liquid line when on, they'd have known quickly as the roof looked like a fire breathing dragon blowing smoke clouds
This is how I know you are a good boss, most people complain about these kids and say they don’t want to work but also don’t want to pay them for their hard work or actually teach them stuff. It takes a lot of trust to let him get in there and do that repair. Not only that I bet he got a beer or something for his troubles.
stick 1x3 or 2x2 on bottom of rafter to hold line set "far" away from roofline. yeah I know nobody wants to go crawl in there and do that job. you'd need some thick metal to stop most air/gas/cordless nailer and heaven forbid it's against a rafter, and they replace a section of decking on opposite side. they may use a framing nailer that's capable of anchoring to steel/concrete. 🤣
yeah, not good, either tie the bottom off back to the house, or park a vehicles/lawn tractor where it will rest against one of the wheels(rear wheel if using lawn tractor).
Since it Cannot be Expected for the Roofers to be able to see on Opposite Side of the Substructure, this is Clearly the Mo-Ron that Installed Line Set, Fault. 🤪👎
I'll always remember almost completing a job and a guy complaining about safety and having to wait hours for harness. In the name of safety workers must drill extra holes in the roof 👍🏻
roofers roof they just bang nails.. on the outside.. The ac installer flabergasts me..its not like roofing nails got thru the sheeting to the insides..nuts
Honestly, this application would be where the RLS/ Pro Press fittings would pay for itself. Would I use them all the time? No, but they do have there usages.
Here is South, FL the roofers will always blame the a/c guy for not keeping the lines at least 4 inches below the roof deck. I always ask the roofers... Is this your first day? lol
nothing should be that close to the roof underside, if it is, it's fair game for all to puncture... so the hvac installer is to blame or whomever "moved" the lines around post their install. IRL, install 1x3 or 2x2 strapping across bottom of rafter and fasten the line to it, far away from the roofline! it will save you and all future headaches. 😬
First off, it's not the roofers fault. Second, you owe that man a bonus. That was above and beyond. I can't remember when I was skinny enough to do that.
You are 100 percent correct. Hvac guy should never let the lineset get that close to the deck.
I can’t believe he entered through the soffit. I’m impressed!
yep same happens to our conduit if we run to close to the roof. NEC states no closer than 1.5 inches from a roof line.Great job young man Ive never witnessed anyone going in through the soffit, but now I know it can be done,
yall need to give that man a raise. thats going above and beyond.
That was cool. Liked the can do attitude of the technician
It doesn't pay to be the skinny guy on the job. 😎👍
I couldn't get a leg through that hole
As the skinny guy on the job, can confirm lol
Same here, damn high metabolism!
Same here, even at 48, I'm still thin. I would've gotten stuck with that job
“Pull it. You see a foot, you pull it” 😂😂😂 Ha!
We need more people like him. He also is a sider and skilled Tin Knocker to put the soffit back together. I do that stuff all the time because it’s my job

don't see many line sets leaking but a roofing nail will do it every time! Good find and fix.
You better buy him a extra carton of cigarettes 🚬 for that
"Another good one !! Why do I do this all day then come home and watch it ?? Gotta love it."
I guess it's because we like what we do! Glad I am not a happy grocery bagger! I had one 2 yrs ago where the install company ran the track pipe for the furnace against the roof and the roofers popped the gas line! But the access was much better.
Well Ted where there’s a will there’s a way go bless that boy he did a great job
Good job gettin' into (and out of) that access hole! The blessing of youth makes that job a whole lot easier!
Would like to have seen the braze repair. VERY dangerous area for flame. That guy is better than a squirrel getting into the attic.
I was gunna comment on replacing that section and swedging both ends to make an easier repair but at the end that’s exactly what you did. Good work fellas. Must feel great having a great team
That was epic. Trust me, a lot of contractors would not have been able to find and repair with so little evasiveness.
i have to say ive never seen anyone climb into an attic from the eve haha!! well done
Now that was one hell of a repair, good job young man
Wow, the angle of that ladder is suicidal!
That boy deserves a lunch for sure

However they got out of it because according to code. Any type of piping had to be 2 inches from the room due to possible nail puncter. And the lineset was against the roof sheathing
That was a scary ladder setup.
I seriously wonder how that ladder did not slide down the wall. Just an extra two inches where the ladder feet was below the concrete slab would have been more stable. I am thankful it did not slide when the second guy mounted the ladder at the top.
Wow! You oughta spot bonus that guy for going up there and ripping up his clothes.
Kudos to that young man, job well done.
Man you don’t pay them kids enough money, Great Job👍
As much as I usually can blame roofers many times, I agree the roofers are not to blame here. A homeowner with 3 condensers can afford to pay for the HVAC call. I do like that new soffit access panel!
Man that was one heck of an effort by your boy there. Wish I saw more of it out here on the west coast
You da’ man! Very nice job!
#1- I've been watching your videos for a long time and I've never seen anybody besides you in the videos. I almost felt like the installers didn't really exist. 😂 #2 - I did not know you could access an attic through the soffit. I am befuddled and bewildered. 🤣
not possible for us older/fatter folks, or the fire department would have to come cut the roof or ceiling out to rescue us! 🤣🤣
That’s my amazing husband right there 🤣😘 good job baby

Run the unit when you do, chances are you'll hear it hissing.
Good work! And I agree, NOT the roofers fault..
Good one Ted, such a shame the statue got broken 😊 Au
I once had an electrician stab a screw through a liquid line because he hung the AC disconnect box with a 6” screw instead of a 1” that wouldn’t hit the lineset inside the wall.
I feel for your tech. I’ve chased the same problem before, but not in such a tight spot.
GIVE THAT GUY A RAISE!!
Fault is guy who ran the line set.
I wonder if the roofer heard the psshhht when it happened.
other side of the roof, suction line and a team of roofers laying and banging with air nailers? not a chance, either wearing ear plugs/headphones/buds or half deaf after 30 seconds.
unless it happened to blast oil/liquid out through the roof. say the liquid line when on, they'd have known quickly as the roof looked like a fire breathing dragon blowing smoke clouds
That's dedication of a great HVACR TECH.
This is how I know you are a good boss, most people complain about these kids and say they don’t want to work but also don’t want to pay them for their hard work or actually teach them stuff.
It takes a lot of trust to let him get in there and do that repair.
Not only that I bet he got a beer or something for his troubles.
Totally on the installer...
That is some dedicated staff you have there
Tech coming out of the soffit reminds me of Rhino giving birth to Ace Ventura😂
Could a Person Use a Pro Press Coupler to make this Repair? Love Your Videos! You give Customers a First Hand View of how A/C Work Can Be!
Much rather torch it and know you'll be done with it.
That is why you never install wire or pipe near the sheathing for sure - roofer did nothing wrong. Shingle nails will always penetrate roof sheathing.
That small guy fitting in that crack is the real hero of the day
Are you kidding me lol he climbed up through that soffit!
Excellent dedication. When I run lineset near decking I’ll lay steel sheet metal on top of it. Nails can’t puncture it.
Sheet meat will not stop those naiul guns. I used to use 1900 electrical box covers to be thick enough
stick 1x3 or 2x2 on bottom of rafter to hold line set "far" away from roofline. yeah I know nobody wants to go crawl in there and do that job.

Little guy saves the day!!!!!
Wow! What an access nightmare.
That ladder had me nervous. To steep and resting on concrete with loose gravel everywhere! I did that once it kicked out and did a number on my shin!
yeah, not good, either tie the bottom off back to the house, or park a vehicles/lawn tractor where it will rest against one of the wheels(rear wheel if using lawn tractor).
I’ve had 3 just like that so far, in the suction line and run too close to the deck. Nice save 👍
Young, flexible with the skills to get the job done.
As Gene Wilder said to his assistant in Young Frankenstein, "Give him an extra dollar."
sharp thinking, finding that way in
Do you normally have a water can when you’re using a torch in a confined space like that? He ain’t gettin outa there in a hurry, that’s for sure.
Should always have a dude on fire watch if your in any space where u can't get out of quickly.
That is very funny, and I was on a slate roof. With just a ladder.
Amazing what an hvac guy has to do to get the job done. One reason why it is for the younger guys. Good job, guys.
Push, pull, squeeze and contort. Get that work done.
Hopefully the stupid customer has enough common sense to realize it wasn’t the roofers fault.
Ted Cook and his Soffit Crawlers; now performing in your neighborhood. 😎
Who's at fault?.. the installer that ran the pipe so dang close! 😅
Damn surprised he fit. LoL
He's a tool in the toolbox!
Great job boys...
jordan looked like he was a raccoon crawling up in there
roofers roof they just bang nails.. on the outside.. The ac installer flabergasts me..its not like roofing nails got thru the sheeting to the insides..nuts
Your tech almost had his behind hanging out like that elf
Your guy there must have Raccoon somewhere in his lineage to get up and through that soffit. ;-P
cant blame the roofer cause he dont know whats behind that roof!
Honestly, this application would be where the RLS/ Pro Press fittings would pay for itself. Would I use them all the time? No, but they do have there usages.
Love your videos but Go Dawgs!!!
I hope you gave that kid an extra hundo for climbing up thru the soffit.
If ever there was a time to use those push on fittings, it's this.
Ted, if you have as many as 8 employees, OSHA cares, if 7 or less, it doesn't really matter.
Stand on that bottom ladder rung while you're commenting
The hvac installer is to blame as it is common for the nails to come through the sheathing they could have maintained a gap.
Unreal the owner could somehow blame the roofer
👍 Youth is wasted on the young. Good stuff!
Go Jordan!
Everything is OSHA approved the OSHA isn’t around 🤣
Here is South, FL the roofers will always blame the a/c guy for not keeping the lines at least 4 inches below the roof deck. I always ask the roofers... Is this your first day? lol
Back seat driver! 😂
I blame the roofer for not paying attention. If the unit was installed before the roof it isn’t the installers fault.
I think you meant to stomp on a Clemson blanket!
I always lay mine down it’s just going to fall anyways and break my regulator
just think in a few years this would have resulted in a house fire.
nothing should be that close to the roof underside, if it is, it's fair game for all to puncture... so the hvac installer is to blame or whomever "moved" the lines around post their install.

I hope that guy in the roof got lunch out of it .
Ted you take very good care of your workers. I think you think of them as family.
😎👍🏻🍺
Looks like the house is giving birth....😀
Shit happens
Yeah that was the fault of whom ever ran that line set all half ass
Man to be young and skinny again!!
That house gave birth to a fully healthy baby. Its a BOY!
Negative. I'd never pay to fix that. Whoever ran that line is at fault. Not the roofer!
