For me, the one that was the most surprising was the deer at the very beginning of Train to Busan. I'd never seen wildlife turn, and seeing it's legs twist and crack. UGH! What a moment.
Honestly I still just find it utterly hilarious that they went so far out of their way to make a movie that *was not a zombie movie* but everyone still counts it as a zombie movie. ... You know, Despite the fact that they had a variant of rabies, Which causes a *LIVING* human to be consumed with *RAGE* and *ATTACK* everyone,... Basically the opposite of a zombie, Which is an *UNDEAD* human that is consumed with *HUNGER* for either brains or flesh and *TRY TO EAT* everyone.
@@MeCooper Zombies aren't always undead. Left 4 Dead's zombies are actually alive and very much aware of what they're doing, but they can't control themselves because the virus is reeking havoc on their brains. In Warhammer 40K, Nurgle, the god of life, death, and disease, created a plague that completely takes over an infected individual's body and forces them to do his bidding and the bidding of his cultists, transforming them into a monstrous husk with bones growing out of their body and rotted puss and maggots replacing their blood, but they're still very much alive and conscious of what their body is doing despite having zero control over it.
I agree, it should be a lot more popular than it is! Most people I mention it too haven`t seen or heard of it! After I saw the movie, I instantly bought both books (the second one is a prequel called the boy on the bridge, it centers around the scientists who were in the mobile lab if you remember). Such a beautiful movie and the book is even better where the characters have more depth etc. I recommend reading it if you haven`t already!
Honestly I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. Overall premise is interesting and ending was good but otherwise I felt it dragged on pretty bad and had a lot of pointless scenes. Glad you enjoyed it tho
There's an anthology based on Night of the Living dead (called Nights of the Living Dead with assorted authors like John Russo, George A. Romero and others), and one of the stories is called "The Girl on the Table." it tells us how Karen got infected/bitten in the first place, and it somehow makes things even more tragic.
No mention of Return of the Living Dead? Tar Man! We watch that dried up corpse turn into a gooey mess of decayed flesh and muscle hanging off of bone at the beginning of the opening credits. Fun fact, the glass cracking and the flames were not intended to happen, but it looked so good they kept it.
Rain Ocampo's transformation wasn't unexpected. She was bit several times by the zombies throughout the movie. Even though she was given one vial of the anti-virus near the end, it wasn't enough to prevent her from becoming one of the undead.
I think they acknowledge that, and have a different reason for why it's surprising. It's not surprising that it happens, it's more WHEN. Though you could argue when else could it have really happened other than the climax at that point...
Fun fact, the 12 second rule Gerry Lane is contradicted later by a soldier saying that someone took longer to change. This is hilarious given Gerry Lane uses the 12-second rule later when it could have easily gotten them killed. He should have known better.
I remember seeing OVERLORD for a few reasons. It was a press screening in 4DX and the opening was absolutely great in this format. My best 4DX experience by far ! But I mostly remember it because the moment the film ended, I looked at my phone to learn that Stan Lee had died.
Frank’s was unexpected and tragic. It could have been avoided too. Rain on the otherhand, I wouldn’t classify her transformation as unexpected. She got bit so everyone knew she was gonna turn. It just took a long time.
The thing I noticed about the remake of Night Of The Living Dead, is Ben is shot, dies, and becomes a zombie. He's never bit; which is just like Rick Grimes' partner in The Walking Dead S1. Rick Grimes' partner is first shot, but then he comes back as a zombie; and Rick has to shoot him again. So, like the reveal of the zombie virus in TWD S1, I wonder if everyone in NOTLD (1990) is also already infected. 🤫🤫
TWD was inspired by the dead film series i mean in Dawn of the Dead i mean the original said even normal people can die normal means and come back wich means everyone infected
Dude...that isn't what happened with Ben. It's so much more tragic than that and I thoroughly recommend anyone find a clip of it. Also, we see a few people become ghouls in the original Night of the Living Dead. In fact we literally see Helen and Harry become ghouls right before our eyes.
One of the most memorable moments for me is in resident evil Rain (glad you made that be on the list) transforms into one. Maybe one of these vireos should be top 10 characters turn into monsters (one being the guy on the train with Rain being turned into a bigger zombie)

It changed zombies almost as much as Night of the Living Dead did. The whole idea of zombies eating brains came from this one movie. That's like how "Nosferatu" is the reason vampires burn to ash in the sun.
They don't eat their victims either. They either rip them apart, or vomit on them to spread the virus. Thank you for recognizing them not being zombies. I don't know why, but it's incredibly frustrating when people call them zombies. Willful ignorance maybe? I dunno, lol.
WWZ infection doesn't happen in 12 seconds flat. There's a scene in Camp Humphrey S-Korea where once of the soldier said one turned in 2 minutes and one took like 15 minutes.
I know this about The Zombies Apocalypse in Movies but the one I know is probably Zombie Spider-Man transformation in The Marvel Zombies Comic (all of The Heroes and Villains have turned into a Flesh Eating Monsters but Spidey’s transformation is probably the saddest because he attacked two people that he loves the most, his own Girlfriend MJ and even his own Aunt May and through all The Comic Spider-Man can’t help but felt guilty of what he just done but even The Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man can’t stop The Virus)
The worst part about the Night of the Living Dead remake was it was the decision to board up the windows that drew all the zombies to the house. So Ben's noble idea to save everyone is what ultimately doomed everyone, and Cooper's idea to stay in the basement would have actually saved everyone. Why they didn't just go up the stairs and break them away? I have no idea lol
I had the opposite reaction when I first saw ‘Dead Alive’ as the alternate title. It was released as ‘Dead Alive’ in the US due to copyright issues with the name ‘Braindead’. 😊
6:22 No. The key is for the gas pump outside. They'd been looking for it while boarding up the house, so they could refuel the truck Ben originally arrived in that was out of gas. They had the wrong key when they went out to unlock it, and that's when Tommy--the nephew of the fat zombie Ben beat to death-again with a fireplace poker--takes his shotgun to it in an attempt to shoot off the lock. It doesn't end well.
I know this might sound dumb but am i the only 1 that believes i am legend is not a zombie film? They burn in the sun so it makes more sense to me they are vampires. I always complained about that

For me, the transformation of the squad of special forces police in "Solados o Zombies" was a truly terrifying experience. After a scientist's decision to order a soldier under him to dump the bodies of pigs he used as test subjects in his pursuit of a super soldier serum, they come to life in the dump and launch a pack-like attack upon a lone coyote, tearing it into pieces. Then, in discovering the ventilation pipes that direct the flow of oxygen to tunnels used by the cartels to help their boss escape prison, whereby the unit that was chasing the cartel boss and his men get trapped by those very same criminals. The pigs then go full feral, biting the soldiers to cause their deaths only for a few minutes to have their corpses reanimate as well, with the soldiers becoming vicious, hard to kill, super intelligent killing machines.

28 days and 28 days later are NOT zombie movies,... *The only reason for this misconception is because people just wrote them off as zombies despite the entire plot being around the fact that no, They're not zombies,... @@toddboughn5168 No eating involved bud, watch the movie correctly. Bites to spread the virus, no eating.
@@olliesmith2890so it’s a mindless condition spread to normal humans by bites, the infected move in packs, attack non infected, and spread their condition via bites, scratches, and other bodily fluids? So, zombies in every functional way?
I remember alot about overlord due to it coming out same time as call of duty ww2 zombies having the same plot
For me i like horrific real scenes of survival zombie apocalypes, no comedy ..

Btw, Brain dead is also named Dead Alive
28 days and 28 days later are NOT zombie movies,... *The only reason for this misconception is because people just wrote them off as zombies despite the entire plot being around the fact that no, They're not zombies,... They have a mutated strand of rabies.* It would be like saying a movie about the Black Death was also about zombies.
Edit: 6:55 *VAMPIRIC ZOMBIES?!* ... Absolutely fvcking not man wtf? They are just vampires... They're not zombies... They're never called zombies in either the movie or book,... *Again, They specifically went out of their way to clarify that THEY ARE NOT ZOMBIES!*
This is exactly why I keep unsubscribing the the WhatCulture channels,... The writers clearly don't give a single fk about what they're doing as long as they do an upload.
Kyle Crane, Dying Light: the Following. That was so sad because he spread the virus outside of Harran, ending the world.
now hear me out all Resident Evil Fans : the only way to survive that laser room is to jump forward before it turns into a net I mean c'mon don't tell me you haven't notice the face that it reaches first to the half of the room and then turns . am i right ?
WRONG! In the original "Night of the living dead", Johnny, Barbara's brother was the first character that we see reanimate in zombie history as we know it .
Maybe not unexpected as it is the core of the movie but certainty not an ordinary story, I'd have added Colin from the movie of the same name.
7:48 noooooooo :(
One Hungry. Two Hungrys. 🤔
Plus, Karen from Night Of The Living Dead was the first zombie to demonstrate tool use..
Having to strangle Samantha was..
