As a relative of Mercy and the Brown family as a whole, I thank you for telling the truth about what happened to her. It's annoying to hear everybody say that she was an actual vampire, and then continue with these crazy stories about her. My grandfather had to go to the cemetery every Halloween and protect the grave because people would come and vandalize it. Sadly he passed away recently, but can be found diagonally across Mercy's grave: Richard Brown
@@blazineyezasian____ I wouldn’t be able to answer that because this happened in the 1800’s, and I wasn’t born yet; but she had tuberculosis which was an unknown, but not uncommon disease at the time. Thank you for another great video. I always found this story interesting so good to see her resting place. And your Camp Crystal Lake shirt so appropriate for the day.
I visited Mercy Brown's grave a few years ago. It was really strange, there were so many flies on her headstone...and only her headstone. EMF around her headstone was out of control too.
you could easily spill some soda on the headstone and it will attract flies I know this because I spilled some soda and next think you know all types of flies just swarm for that sugar.
Surely you saw the hole in the crypt blocked door way. Man that would've been cool if you shined a light into it. I'm sure no one is in there, but a peak into the past... I enjoy your videos. Stumbled across them a few weeks back. Sub'd. Looking forward to more. Stay safe on your journeys!
Fascinating story, there was so much folk lore back then, and it's amazing what was done for remedies to the problem.. The place where Mercy's body was kept, was a body storage during the winter due to the ground being to hard to dig. It made sense her body would be preserved, it would be frozen in a preserved state. TB would bring up blood when coughing, often found on pillows, and cloths, which brought the idea they were vampires due to blood in their mouths, and on other items. Thanks Chris, it was a good one.
Very interesting video, thank you Chris. Kind of funny how the locals figured she must have been a vampire because of very little or no decomp after 2 months, never mind the fact that it was in the frozen winter cold in an above-ground crypt. She was probably a popsicle, so of course she wouldn't be decomposing. But, when people get it in their head about something silly, they run with it.
So cool to see the Brown's actual gravesite! There is a series (Amazon Prime has it if anyone is interested) called Lore...this story is one of the tales they covered.
I remember a phase of my teenage life where I was obsessed with vampires this is a very good video thank you for remaining me how life was, so simple before the 2000's eras. Now everything is zombies.
So they didn't realize that Mercy's body had been kept at freezing or at least near that temp. From another source they removed her heart, burned it on a rock and then gave it to her brother to drink.
I love both of your channels. Thank you for all of the great and awesome adventure's. I have learned so much. Stay safe and happy travels to you Luv.☺😊😚💖❤
Glad I discovered your other channel! Hey man, there's 3 different graveyards not too far from me in Kentucky that I'd like to see you video and find info on.
Mercy died in January, so that "crypt" is where they stored bodies during the winter when the ground was too frozen to dig graves. You can see them in many older cemeteries in the north and northeast.
If Mercy died in January, and she couldn't be buried because the ground was frozen, why was anyone surprised that her body wasn't badly decomposed? She was very likely frozen at least part of the time she'd been in the crypt.
We just left Newport, Rhode Island less than 2 weeks ago after being stationed there for 3 years. Really would’ve liked to meet you. I love your videos.
The metal around the bottom is because the stone was completely broken off and that’s how it was repaired. I remember seeing it broken. So I just googled a little bit and I just read The stone was already unattached from vandalism and in 1996 it was stolen and it was returned a week later and that’s when the metal bracket was put on. I never knew it was stolen but I do remember it being broken before the metal bracket was there.
Technically it is not called a crypt but a keep and was used to temporarily store the corpses of those who died in winter when the ground was too hard for burial. Remember back in the day graves were dug by hand so when November, December, January, February and even March the soil was to frozen to penetrate. This was prevalent in the New England area. When spring rolled around bodies were transferred to the permanent gravesites.
She must get a lot of visitors, that the grass won't grow around her grave... Or is it for some other ethereal reason...? Also, cool shirt. Did you happen to get it @ Camp Crystal Lake in Pa.?
This is a spooky one 👻 great shirt! Have you been to where they filmed the movie in Blairstown NJ? Know you were nearby with the viaduct. There's an unsolved murder up there as well. Princess Doe found in Cedar Ridge Cemetery in 82.
Did you ever hear of my ancestor Roger Williams whose grave was dug up for re-burial around 1850? An apple tree had grown up around the grave and people had people been eating apples fed by Roger’s body for 150 years.
I visit the gravesite of mercy brown all the time. There are never flies around her headstone. It's a well kept cemetery because the church is still open to parishioners. Her grave is set in steel to avoid being robbed. Her crypt is now cemented & you cannot go in it. You can open the door buy you'll open it to cement. The cemetery is very haunted though. She comes out at her grave at night, I do have photos. She did just about drain my cell phone battery. I did capture other phenomena there as we walked.

But, did like going to historic graves sites( Rhode Island, especially rural like in Kent County has a lot of them. Many right in backyards). It was sad to see the high mortality rate of children.
