Thanks Steve. Great to see you see you getting the corporate partnerships going. Looking forward to watching the channel evolve. Very keen to see how you get on with the Advent X drivetrain. Very much thinking of using it for my '04 Giant NRS build! I did just see the new Acolyte 8 speed drivetrain... Less than $90USD for a full drivetrain! That could be very cool!
Looks like an amazing build. Nice job. I got a GT Aggressor Pro two years ago for my entry level bike but Im thinking my next one I wanted a better level bike maybe I'll build one instead. I saved this video for parts list. Thanks. Enjoy that bike!
I've ridden it for about two years and my friend just got his in the mail. I've gotten a new mtb with a sram eagle drivetrain but I'm repurposing my old bike as a commuter/gravel/bike packing bike so I'm going with the advent 2x derialuer and running 24/38 up front for around 620% range.

If you have a choice, I'd always go for xd because it gives you way more options than hg which has a minimum of an 11 tooth (20% lower top gear)
I wouldn't say there are "tons" of non sram xd cassettes. I like the xd design a lot, but for budget drivetrains and singlespeed, I've really been enjoying hg lately. If there were more xd options I'd use it on all my wheels, but I've got a few drivetrains to test that are hg only. Where I live, I never need anything higher than an 11t, and if I do, I can just run a 34 or 36 up front.

I was running tag metals on my dv9(loved them) they are a nice silver and have all sorts of marks so u can have your brakes the same level etc. Bjt just recently bought enve m6 in 31.8 and can honestly say I can tell a difference in softer over the alloys
Just undo the two phillips screws holding the clutch cover on and use a torx key (I think T25) to tighten/loosen the clutch. On my advent 9 speed drivetrain I tightened it just until it affected shifting performance and then backed off so the clutch was super strong. Way stronger than sram or shimano. Its easy to adjust and more reliable than shimano. I accidentally broke a shimano deore derailuer trying to get the clutch tention higher.
Interesting build - and very interesting videos you do. Thanks. I like the paintwork on it now as well. Did the original color chip easily? And any reason not to take the "bare" aluminum look frame from Banshee instead of the colored ones?
Those Ergon saddles, at least for me and my sit bones, have been the best purchase I've made bike related. Super comfortable even when I'm wearing just gym shorts. I also prefer the extra distance/height of the rails, so they don't flex and have issues with the saddle bolts. There's a few of them (posts) with long bolts that can hit under the saddle and the extra height stops it. Yes you could trim the bolts down but it really doesn't impact anything for me so it's fine. I understand it could make you have to downsize your dropper, but besides that the saddle as a whole is great, again, for me. We all have different sit bones and proportions.
Yup, the BP V3 (M) has arrived. I took a look your 9point8 Stout stem link. Bars and stem are all I have left to order. How do figure stem length? I'm running a 130mm fork, 5' 8"-5' 9" longer torso, shorter legs and arms. Was thinking to spring for a 40 or 50mm (31.8) 9.8 Stout, 20mm rise bars.
My old bike has a Spabk Spike vibrocore bar. Nice bar. They don't sacrifice weight or anything. I didn't notice a huge difference between a regular aluminum bar and that vibrocore bar, though. I'm not a crazy fast rider either, however.
@@chameleonpogono I feel like I've noticed it in the chunky this season, but it's also much wider than my old bars, and 35mm diameter vs 31.8 (?) so it's different in several ways. the weirdest thing is I've still left them as 820mm. Will cut them down eventually but they feel weirdly good a lot of the time this way. I know I "should" cut them to 780-800.. Also seriously thinking about going cush core rear.
Was looking to buy a Paradox and I ended up buying a Banshee Spitfire because i can run my old 26" wheels on that frame. I blame you...hah! Get the Bikebondsman to get you a Nordest Britango for testing. I'm eyeballing that frame.
I like the Sunrace 12 speed HG style cassette I used on my latest build. It is 11-51 tooth and works pretty good. About as smooth shifting as my old Sram 9 speed cassettes. It cost less than Sram SX HG compatible cassette. Since the top 3 rings are AL 7075 alloy, the question I have is: How long will they last? Only time will tell. I've also used Microshift 9 speed in the past, it worked well, until a crash twisted the inner parallel linkage. Crash damage can wreck even the best parts.
I'm surprised the bottom bracket doesn't have enough movement to tighten the chain, in my experience exactly half a link is always enough. I have a 'half link' eccentric hub a guy in Rotorua made me years ago and its been through several bikes and gear combo's. I'm interested as i'm looking at other options as the old 9mm axle is becoming obsolete :)

9:04 aren't most hardtails limited at a 180 mm back rotor? I had an NS Eccentric that broke because I had a 203mm rear rotor on it (the caliper broke too) (I hadn't known the 203 was gonna be an issue)
im a lil upset you didnt just drop or raise a tooth on the rear cog (it'll change tension by about an eighth inch), ive been rynning "magic gear "ratios for over ten years but it requires a whole set of cheap rear cogs and front chain rings to play with tension on non adjustable bikes. but im glad you are playing with them mid level components cause they are great especially for reducing the entry point to the sport, keep it up and ill keep recommending folks to sub to your channel.
@@hardtailparty get that with some playing a bit with the front and a bit the rear it usually ends up close enough, especially with the land changing more than than the discrepancy a tooth makes, but that where derailleurs take over. again love your content. one of my favorite new to me channels.
11:15 Im building a ragley mmmbop with magura brakes rn. My brake hose is also twising like yours right there. Can and should I do sth. about that? And my shifting housing falls out of the Shifter alot. I just fut some "Tesa" around it so its thicker.
You probably need an end cap for your shifter housing. It should fit snug. Your cables shouldn't be twisted. You should listen the bolt on your hose and straighten it out. Be careful not to leak much fluid. You just need to loosen it enough to turn the hose straight.
I own 3 bikes. My patrons get regular tours of what's in my shop and what's in for review. Its always rotating, but I usually have about 9 bikes at a time for review.
Good catch. I actually released this out of order due to the recent announcements of the trp brakes. The review is not up on RUclips yet. Its coming very soon. Thanks for your patience.
a Question here: im 1,68m tall with a 78cm inseam would i be able to ride the Banshee Paradox? Cause there is only Size Medium as smallest Size. If not then im thinking about the MIDDLECHILD V2 Aluminum in Size small. Regards from Hamburg Germany
I'm your same height with a shorter inseam (27") and I ride a medium paradox with a 150mm fall-line r dropper. I also ride a size med middle child, but I had to trim the seat tube on the middle child to fit a 150mm dropper. If you're used to a shorter reach, they're both going to feel long, but once you get used to them I think you'll love 'em (provided your terrain is steep enough to enjoy a long reach).

I would like to try a different set of wheels. I was looking at the Nukeproof, I think, Horizon. Also curious about the Spank Vibrocore wheels. Kinda rather try the Nukeproof wheels. Mrs already rolled her eyes and said no, unfortunately.
@@hardtailparty heard a lot of great reviews, but that's the reason why I haven't purchased yet either. 9:04 aren't most hardtails limited at a 180 mm back rotor? I had an NS Eccentric that broke because I had a 203mm rear rotor on it (the caliper broke too) (I hadn't known the 203 was gonna be an issue)
Depends on the frame. Some bikes can take 200/203
Nice outro
Did you ever try half link chain to take up the slack
No, they don't work with narrow/wide chainrings.
Have you tried halflinks (thats the name in english?) to se if it could righten better that chain
Helm MK2?
If so, curious to know they compare!
Lots of small changes.
Would my shimano Xt 10 speed shifter work with the microshift advent x rear mech and cassette?
Unfortunately not
im a lil upset you didnt just drop or raise a tooth on the rear cog (it'll change tension by about an eighth inch), ive been rynning "magic gear "ratios for over ten years but it requires a whole set of cheap rear cogs and front chain rings to play with tension on non adjustable bikes. but im glad you are playing with them mid level components cause they are great especially for reducing the entry point to the sport, keep it up and ill keep recommending folks to sub to your channel.
I believe in the right gearing for my terrain instead of the right gearing for the chain tension.
@@hardtailparty get that with some playing a bit with the front and a bit the rear it usually ends up close enough, especially with the land changing more than than the discrepancy a tooth makes, but that where derailleurs take over. again love your content. one of my favorite new to me channels.

Im building a ragley mmmbop with magura brakes rn.
@@hardtailparty ok thanks for the answer.
I got an endcap on my housing (its probably the worng but idc. I want to ride it ahah)
Does the banshee v3 just come with the frame or does it come with all the parts
Frame only
Noooooo
It's a good chance to learn to build a bike
How many bikes do you own? You should do bike tour
I own 3 bikes. My patrons get regular tours of what's in my shop and what's in for review. Its always rotating, but I usually have about 9 bikes at a time for review.
Hi steve, when you ordered the TRP slate t4's does it come with both rear and front or just 1 for the 119? thanks in advance
119 gets you either the front or rear brake
Why not use a halflink to run it singlespeed with the ebb?
Because then I'd need a different chainring. Half links don't work with narrow wides.
can you use the pipe cutter for carbon bars?
No, definitely not, it will destroy carbon. Aluminum, steel, and titanium only.
@@hardtailparty oh man glad i asked 😁😬
Hi do you have a link to your Stan's Arch review? Thanks!
Good catch. I actually released this out of order due to the recent announcements of the trp brakes. The review is not up on RUclips yet. Its coming very soon. Thanks for your patience.
@@hardtailparty Great thank you! I purchased the 29er set for my chameleon a couple months ago and so far I really like them.
would half link make SS work?
a Question here: im 1,68m tall with a 78cm inseam would i be able to ride the Banshee Paradox?
@@hardtailparty im so glad you react so quick thank you for that. Hamburg is 90% flat. Thats why i was always thinking of grabbing a XC Bike like the Chisel. But watching your Videos had make me think different.
@@elbskipper5893 maybe find something in between like a chameleon
@@hardtailparty i lost the chameleon as you mentioned that the Bearings and Cups in the head tube can have problems .then i followed you to the next bike you liked with all the good things from the Chameleon...the Middle Child.
Maybe this is a stupid question, but why can't you just remove one link from the chain to take off some slack, then use the eccentricity to get the tightness just right?
I tried it. It was too short at that point. The eccentric bb doesn't have a ton of adjustability.
I would like to try a different set of wheels. I was looking at the Nukeproof, I think, Horizon. Also curious about the Spank Vibrocore wheels. Kinda rather try the Nukeproof wheels. Mrs already rolled her eyes and said no, unfortunately.
See, asking is the first mistake 🤪
@@maxwitek6203 Ha! She sees the bank account and bills, so she would know. She would take the new wheels and shove them up where the sun don't shine.
Advent X is the best for the money...box one prime is great if you needed that 11-50 range and lighter grams
Have you ridden box prime 1 yet? I can't get over the price.
@@hardtailparty heard a lot of great reviews, but that's the reason why I haven't purchased yet either.
Some guys say they like the shifting better on the Advent X due to less force needed, and better adjustable clutch? But I think I'll be using it for this build though. I have advent X for my older marin bobcat trail bike(26in)
What about Deore M4100 with the new 10spd 11-46T? Here in Europe it's actually a bit cheaper than Advent X. 🙂 For a tiny bit more money you can go up to M5100 which has an option for an 11-51.
Why single speed?
