    Never seen any of this series before. Very amused to see Randall get his own back on Boycott for Trent Bridge 1977

      To be fair to Randall, Boycott would have made the run if he had sprinted in a straight line towards the other end and run his bat in earlier.

    Hurst looked a fine bowler, sharp and should have had Randall lbw with what seemed like reverse swing possibly.

    Is there any more - I was listening to this series (well, trying to listen) on test match special overnight on LW., with transistor radios and batteries running out at critical moments, before going to school, bleary eyed and never sure who won!

    One thing that has always worries me is the lack of commentary from the other side of world series cricket..1977..1980...there were some close matches,and some very good players...who never played on.

    You know I have always wanted a VHS or DVD of this series. I found it very interesting due to Geoff Boycotts fine account of this tour called "Put To The Test". Where did you find all this footage?

    One of the worst Australia sides ever,decimated because of WSC but unearthed two stars for Australia in the future captain Allan Border and Rodney Hogg.

      Irnically some of the best Australian players in this series would go to tour South Africa in 1984/5 and therefore make themselves unavailable for the '85 Ashes (players such as Hughes, Yallop, Hogg)

      Just curious. Was Border knocking on the door of the test side regardless of wsc or would he have had to wait until the likes of McCosker, Walters and the Chappel brothers had called it a day.

    • @david_g_barron
      @david_g_barron 3 года назад

      @@alancjones64 He got into the Australian Side because of two centuries scored for New South Wales in Sheffield Shield, then made his debut in the 3rd Test of the series, showed his class in the 4th Test remaining unbeaten in both innings. Dropped for the 6th test after a failure i the 5th, but was back in the side for the two test series against a full Pakistan team, scored a century and two fifties. Then later in 1979 toured India and scored 500 runs in the six test series. Therefore when the ACB started to select the Australian WSC players again in the Australian Summer of 1979-80, he kept his place in the side and did not miss another Test until he retired from international Cricket in 1994.

    Wasn't the worse Aussie side ever,unfairly compared to full teams. And the series with better batting,captaincy, Austria could have squared the series.
