- Today we are at one of the only Blimpie sub spots in Newark New Jersey so my question is what happened to Bimpé? Why is this the only one and is it better than Jersey Mike’s?

NOTHING STAYS THE SAME. NYC BRONX BOY RAISED EATING BLIMPIES
Blimpie do hit different!! I grew up going to this exact Blimpie store. I lived right on West Market Street so this really hits home. Anytime I go back to Newark I make sure to hit up this Blimpie store!
I agree Thomas. Thanks for the comment.
Hey Matt there's also a Blimpies on Main Street in Bellville. Across from what used to be kmart
Yes, there are a few in the surrounding towns. I think Union, Maplewood, and a couple more.
Bumpie had the absolute best Tuna and the bread was so soft
They are known for their tuna, yes.
Do you recall mccrorrys downtown Newark? They had a deli dept their subs were out of this world their pizza was so good also
I remember the Pizza at McCrorrys being delicious as a kid!! Nice well done slices!!! I would tell my mom to get me one of the colorful fountain drinks they had. Wow that is a throwback!!!
It seems like subway took over , more subways than blimpies, now i went to jersey mikes in west orange but i thought it wasn't as good as subway. My favorite was Quiznos but they left newark a while back 😋
Thanks for sharing Misha.
Bon Ton BBQ w/a Clinton grape drink & either a Paul’s Italian Hot Dog off Clinton Pl, or a BLIMPIE’s ham & cheese!

@@leoqueen300 Hold up, so do you remember Mr. Sub in Irvington that used to be where Lyons Ave hits Springfield Ave?! That place was 🔥! They outdid ERRBODY w/the amount of food you got for the price! My wife introduced me to them & we hit ‘em REGULARLY back in the day. Meat just spilling out the sides! 🤤 Lol

Matt, I just started lookin' at this, but I got a good number of stories about Blimpie's, and I'll share them later. I been workin' on my brother's obit, so I haven't looked at too many things this week. I'm gonna watch more of this tomorrow, since it's like 10:30 PM and I need some sleep soon, and didn't even eat yet. I'll add more tomorrow.
Hide your license plate, You could have a stalker wanting to know where you live? You could come across a fool.
Yes.
Yes subcity in Bloomfield center ( they were once called Blimpie their sandwiches are good also
I remember those chips. Always drink Seltzer Water and mix it with Crystal light drink mix. Tastes just like soda
👁️ 👁️
👄. That sounds good Queen 👑👠 Brenda I gotta try that 😊
That's my Blimpie's . Love the tuna. That's all I get. But you gonna make me try that ham & cheese. 😂
Yes, I used to go to Ginos all the time, back in the day
@@brendasapp8466 Same - on Elizabeth avenue! That’s when KFC tasted the BEST! And they didn’t have biscuits back then EITHER! They had those small sunbeam like dinner rolls you had to pull apart that they’d put in the bucket so they tasted like chicken when you ate ‘em! 🤤🤤🤤
My Mom also made great tuna. The last Blimpie I went to was in West Orange
Yo my man blimpie's is older than Jersey Mike's my man facts
Best grinders come from the Latino bodegas in the hood. Corner stores in the hood got the best grinders
👁️. 👁️
👄. Nah they use that cheap ass pressed Carolina meat since Boars Head had that issue with their meat I go to ShopRite in Newark on Springfield Avenue round roll $5.99 with tax $6.19 🔥🔥🔥
@@leoqueen300 😲
Hey Travel and Eats. I can't argue the Bodega. I know some good spots.
No Murray's Steak? 🤔😲😲
Gone.
What about the Irvington spot?
I think that one is closed?
Yes I remember bon ton potato chips I had a parakeet named Bobby bird and I'd eat Bon ton potato chips he'd be on my shoulder and he'd bite into the chip
Remember classmates eating potato chip sandwiches at lunchtime

👄. YES! Queen 👑👠 Brenda on a buttered roll😋😋😋 Barbecue Bonton my favorite 👀
@@brendasapp8466 In the Weequahic section it was Paul’s Italian Hot Dog’s (Clinton Pl) potato sandwich that he invented for the financially challenged kids from Maple Ave/Maple Lyons who couldn’t afford a 75 cent single IHD! The potato sandwich had everything on it that came on an Italian hot dog EXCEPT the dog for 35 cents at first, then 50 cents! 😆😆 You could also go to Brenda’s (Lyons Ave) who had midget fries/midget burgers/etc., and spend 50-75 cents to eat too!
Darnit!!! Missed another live..happy Monday afternoon 😊❤
Grew up on Blimpies tuna sandwiches.
the best!
What about Murrays that was next door🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Murrays Meats! Yes.

Thanks for tuning in napTown. Appreciate you.
Blimpies was in every borough
Food that Built America: Submarine Wars (hosted by foodie Adam Richman) is a good documentary. It tells how JMike’s/Subway/Blimpie all started & competed. Interesting stuff!
nice! Jersey Mike was the originator right?
@@MattDV YEP! In ‘56, then Blimpie’s in ‘64, & Subway in ‘65 (though I’m like you on Subway - WHY are they even being disCUSSED?!) 😂
@@jeycee lol Right!
Would go to Beef Steak Charlie's after a Movie on date night in TimesSquare
Yep! :-) Hi Brenda.

Blimpies you are going way back, there’s not a lot of Blimpies sandwich 🥪 shops around anymore.
Blimpie pre-dates Jersey Mikes by decades. I eat a Newark Blimpie at that site once a month to reward my self for the good works of volunteering at the Student Run Clinic - SFHCC. Student run clinic for underserved patients. And a Blimpie.
IT'S ONE LEFT, LYONS AVE, SUPER FRESH MALL 😊😊😊

Matt, do you remember Chicken Delight?
👋🏽 Matt
Hi Sharon. Thanks for tuning in.
Blimpie is not better than Jersey Mike’s. Guess people like what they like. If Blimpie so good why are they about non existent.
Hi, Ladee; thanks for sharing your thoughts. Please watch the video. Appreciate you.
@@LadeeLibra1018 The original friends who started it sold it for tens of millions, then it got sold again. In the midst of that they tried to open too many stores (gas stations/combo stores selling ice cream, etc.,) & now franchises source meats differently so a NJ Blimpie’s doesn’t = NC Blimpie’s. You heard them saying Halal-something ham. Customers don’t like that. JMike’s is the same basically wherever you go. That SELLS!
Jersey ain’t got chit on Blimpie…..😂😂😂
Because subway had five dollar footings and destroyed all competition
@@l0vemyth Destroyed? As of 2023c Subway franchisees average 400K annually. Jersey Mike’s average 1.1M. That’s sales bruh. Subway’s BEING destroyed! 😂😂
I used to work there
Hi Nate, Thats whats up.
Matt Dv ❤
Blimpies fell off WHAT'S up Matt
Hey Rick, that's what I thought too. Man I'm glad made this stop.

Blimpie's was always official, the oil and vinegar they used was always the perfect topping for one of their sub sandwiches.
Jared was from Subway, is he still locked up? I had a bad experience at a Subway in Mississippi and never looked back!!!!!
Sandwiches Unlimited in East Orange was my joint back in the day.
watching the replay i see you mentioned the oil and vinegar
Hey Dj, and yes, Sandwiches Unlimited is still kicking! Two locations.

👄. Sandwiches Unlimited is STRAIGHT GARBAGE they use that cheap ass pressed Carolina meat and charging $8.00 for a sandwich he been around for over 30 years the owner ought to be a shame of himself frfr I will NEVER eat a sandwich out of there Central Ave or Orange 🤮🤮🤮
Saying hello from Melrose Park Illinois 🇺🇲 60160🏆
Hello my friend. Thank you.
What's up Matt,I live around the corner across from Wendy's and Burger King
I miss Blimpe's. The thing I miss are the sweet peppers on my sandwich.
Hi Mike. Thanks for sharing that comment. I like the sweet peppers too.
Yes I remember bon ton potato chips I had a parakeet named Bobby bird and I'd eat Bon ton potato chips he'd be on my shoulder and he'd bite into the chip
The word hoagie 👎👎
thanks for sharing Ghelley.
Blimpies had the best pepper steak sandwich. I remember when Subway came out, they weren't bad after time they became bad. What subway had over blimpies is the different types of breads. BEEF Steak Charlie's Man that's way back!!
I'm 16 minutes in and waitin' for your take on the history, but in case I don't get to that till tomorrow, I'll just tell ya my bit of it. Way, way back, I went the first (or second) Blimpie's in Manhattan right after they opened, but after long years and many Blimpie's I finally went in the first decade of the 2000s to the one on Broadway and 24th in Bayonne, which was still owned and run by members of the original family from Hoboken. They still got their meats from Thumann's only, their produce from the Bronx Terminal Market every day or other day, and their bread from an Italian bakery in East Newark. My thing has always been the giant BB, everything on it and sweet peppers, but to each their own. Those guys actually catered my wife's memorial back in 2012 (had to pick it up myself since they didn't deliver to North Jersey), and that was special for everybody who attended. The Bayonne family finally got tired of the changed corporate deal and dropped the Blimpie name, but the last I heard they're still doin' the same thing under a different name. I also hear that there's a Blimpie on Central Ave. in Jersey City that's been there for decades (I remember them from the '70s), and they're supposed to be pretty damn good, but I've never been there. Anyhow, that's what I had to add. Now back to the video in progress. Lol.
We have a few here in lexington and columbia south carolina but not many left.ate them in new york growin up in harlem in the pologrounds used to be great!!! still good
SpadeRock, what's happening, man. Thanks for sharing that.
Yes sir. Much Success 🙌 God bless 🙏

I always got bonton chips. They were the best
Yes they were. 🙂
THEY BAKE THEIR OWN BREAD, IN HOUSE 😋😋😋
Those were my favorite
A bag of barbecue Bonton potatoes chips 25cents🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hey BigJ. Yes!
Just one more, before I call it a night (makin homemade pizza, gotta set up the extras). I used ta hit a Quiznos down on Route 1 north of Edison, get their tuna salad with a lotta jalapenos for my lunch in my truck, and the manager used to make sure that I got the fresh tuna salad as soon as she saw me come in. They were good, but they just didn't make it and now they're history.
It has been years since I have had Quiznos, but yes, my co-workers and I enjoyed their food.
In my town, both our Blimpie and Quiznos closed a long time ago ... I enjoyed both. We now only have Subway, Firehouse, and Jimmy John's left for sub sandwiches.
That tuna was good in 1974 but I would be careful in 2024 ! Everyone does not make a good tuna on the outside!
Hi Shelia. Thanks for the comment.
Blimp I’ve had the best tuna with some oil & vinegar
Yes, although I never had the tune there. I'm hearing it's the bomb. Thanks for the comment.

Yeah what happened to Blimpie's they put cheddar cheese their subs.
BLimpies is old school! Loved their chicken sandwich.
I agree Matt, poor management was handled and that’s why a lot of the Blimpies fell under.
