  • After years of one of the most stunning careers any +109 could ever hope to have, Armenia's Varazdat Lalayan finally finds out what winning feels like! With Lasha Talakhadze absent from competition, Lalayan had a much easier route to the three gold medals which he earned. After many years, Lalayan is now champion of Europe, 2024!

    Deep in Lalayans mind though he would know he is still second to Lasha. But congats anyway well deserved , thats what competitions are all about - you gotta be in it to win it.

      He could equal Talakhadze , if he would do some hypertrophy work for traps, shoulders, arms inn5...6 rep range, that would translate into strength. Chinese do it, Karlos does it etc.

      Lasha is and forever will be, sport is cruel, at any point in time, there may be a legend and bridesmaids aren't the stars of the party. Lasha's humility, respect and grace of weightlifting has elevated your sport into the homes of millions, may our boys continue on the legacy with him. What a magnificent resume to have competing at this time! Abryss deghak yev akhtchigner! Bravo!

    I think Lasha's withdrawn is a strong indication he's retiring after this Olympics and that's his only focus now.

      If Lasha wins a third Olympic gold he’ll be the sixth man with 3 and the first super. Alexeev failed badly on his attempt for 3, Kurlovich was a respectable fifth on his third attempt. If Lasha succeeds he can rest comfortably on his Laurels.

      @mikemike8930 about whom are you speaking? nobody has beaten lasha yet, and as far as gor minasyan, he's pretty much in for silver, followed by lalayan. but! the time is coming soon when lasha retires and the contenders are many.

  • @billkenney2855
    @billkenney2855 5 месяцев назад +1

    I’m glad to see Lalayan get a win and set a new total PR. He deserves it. He is a tremendous lifter, and if not for Lasha he and Minasyan would be giving us epic battles. I’m afraid that Lasha’s body might finally be betraying him, so perhaps they will push him even more in Paris. I hope Lasha will be healthy. But I think it is time to remember the unreal nature of what he’s already accomplished. 492 is still 29 kilograms above Lalayan’s new mark. 29! That is simply incredible, just awe-inspiring at a level where even one kilogram can literally break a man. I sincerely hope that Lasha can push the snatch mark up a bit. Because we know he’s always had more. But I think that in giving us that astounding total, and 267, he flew too close to the sun. I hope I am wrong. Once again, congratulations to Lalayan!

  • @jmcsquared18
    @jmcsquared18 6 месяцев назад +1

    Lalyan has to have felt like his back's been against the wall his whole career.
    He's had to fight the best 109+ ever in Lasha, arguably the best 105/109 ever in Martirosyan, and arguably the stongest pound-for-pound 109+ ever in Gor Minasyan.
    He is talented enough to where, if he was here just over a decade ago, he would've been toe-to-toe with Salimi and would've beaten him in several sessions.

    Teiwaztim it was actually 252 in Colombia but you’re right easy clean jerk to arms length lost it in the recovery. Would have been gold too, Lasha was done at that point.

  • @johndoherty-hh2ck
    @johndoherty-hh2ck 6 месяцев назад +3

    Gor didn’t get traded from Armenia to Bahrain. It was his decision. I’m sure he is handsomely compensated by this oil rich nation. Simon in the supers is backup for Lalayan in case the big dog gets hurt. His 450 from last year’s worlds qualifies him. There was no way he could get down to 102 he probably hasn’t weighed that since he was15/16.

    • @frederik0147
      @frederik0147 6 месяцев назад

      I could see Simon dropping to 109 and taking a few world championships, would of cause need to drop 20kg, but he has been that weight before, and if akbar djuraev is moving down to 102, then I don't see anyone that can take gold from him

    • @johndoherty-hh2ck
      @johndoherty-hh2ck 6 месяцев назад

      U make a valid point. How much do you value world championships vs Olympic possibilities is the question. Simon already has 2. He might not get overly excited about possibly more. I think he’s still better than Nuridinov if he wanted.

      @conormullan4901 102 is an olympic weight class, think you might be confusing it for for the 109 which isn't.
      Edit: But to answer the question, the 89's are just insanely stacked, and 102 is kind of in the middle of weightclasses where a lot of weightlifters usually sit at for example 96 or 109, so its at a bit of an odd spot so weightlifters still choose to compete at those weight classes instead
      Edit 2: and a lot of the top weightlifters in the 102 category are asian, and some of the strongest 89's are european, hence why the two are much closer in European competitions
