  • It's been a long time since I chatted with an artist.I was very happy and relaxed to see River Lin that day, especially when I was infected by River's cheerful laughter and the atmosphere was warmed up by the warm-up and the drinks in the front.
River Lin is both an artist and a curator, and he has spent most of his time in Europe in the past seven or eight years, but it was only when he was invited by the Taipei Performing Arts Centre to come back to Taiwan to curate the Taipei Arts Festival that we got to know and meet him.
Before I came into contact with art, I often wondered who could understand such abstract things! I also wondered why people need it.
After I got in touch with it, art became my heart's desire for a free soul. I will always remember the afternoon when my friend came to see me in New York and accompanied me to see an exhibition at the MOMA, I had just got off class and met him at the main entrance, and when I saw him, he had already drank himself into a daze. The higher the floor, the higher the party, as if I were one of the confused ones.
I followed him, not reading the curator's commentary or the introduction on the side as usual, but just playing with my own intuition. Suddenly, I realised that a certain antenna of my art appreciation had been opened, just like a certain layer of my soul had been opened, and the feeling seemed to be like a sudden revelation, a feeling of immense breadth; from that moment on, whenever I was suffering from the easy boredom syndrome of the soul again, I approached it, and then the broken and crumbling parts of myself would come to the forefront. From then on, whenever my soul-sensitive boredom syndrome returned, I would approach it, and then my broken and crumbling parts would be mended and rebuilt.
We talked a lot that night, and H also wept because he had touched a soft spot in his heart. After the recording, we drank all the way to dawn, and thanked River for liberating us from our stifling mood for a while.
Art does not necessarily have to be superior, nor does it have to be understood, as long as one feels it, enjoys it, and plays with one's own intuition, there will be another wilderness.

The trio talked about their life experiences and artistic reflections, searching for themselves amidst the contradictions between creativity and reality. They share their perseverance in pursuing their dreams, their courage to break through worldly frameworks, and their deep understanding of art and life. Through their frank and philosophical dialogue, they make us re-examine the meaning of life and find the innocent and fearless self deep inside. This is a thought-provoking and resonant dialogue that takes you on a journey into the inner world of the artists, the passion of creation and the possibilities of life.

I'm a Taiwanese/Canadian artist who recently moved back to Taiwan. Hearing you speak about life and art in my native tongue in such poetic abstract language is a kind of therapy I didn't know I needed. It has filled a void in me that no one in my family can relate to, nor can I articulate it in Chinese, 感謝你們.
