    "A Mother's Prayer"
    John 17: 12-22
This passage from John is just before the crucifixion. Jesus was preparing the disciples for his departure. He had done his best. Now he had to let go, and hope and pray that what he taught them would be enough, that they might grasp it, and live it so that they might have abundant life.
So he prayed for them. He prays for them to have guidance, protection, a great spirit, faith, communion with joy. It is a prayer very much like what mothers pray all the time. Mothers love completely and then have to let go and pray that their children will be okay. And so your prayer joins with Jesus' prayer.
On this Mother's Day Sunday we excited to welcome a brass quintet accompanying the hymns, our Chancel Choir and playing throughout the service. Our Chancel Choir will sing a newly acquired piece called Steadfast by Craig Courtney. This anthem with brass speaks about the steadfast love of God - ever-faithful and always showing mercy, love and grace. Erin Alford will be singing A Mother’s Love by Paul Sjolund, and our brass quintet will play the Stanley Trumpet Voluntary and the timeless hymn How Great Thou Art. Come this Sunday to be inspired through voices, organ, brass and the word of God.
