Emily Dominko In my Year, we have to most bullying. But it's not usually from the Popular group. Most of them are good people. The Worst is the group where people bully. It's also really weird that in my classroom, all the smart, clever and funny people were at the back. All the people who needed help in their studies were at the front.
what about the person behind the locker door😂like someone is taking something out of their locker and When they close the door someone is right there like "hey"😂😂
This is why high school better off on television. Because at least on television, you have time to feel for the characters. But in film nowadays, let's face it, they're not characters, they're stereotypes from everything we've seen.
No lie it's so aggravating when these high school movies make it seem like being a virgin is a bad thing :/ no wonder some of theses kids are so messed up in the head.
I am in my 30s and i'm still a virgin. Because i'm demi sexual and don't give a shit about sex. I need to have a connection with someone first if not you can forget it. I don't even care if I die a virgin tbh.
What about how the girl who was unpopular at the beginning of the movie being crowned Prom Queen at the end? And afterward she ends up with the captain of the football team?
They know they can’t fight and if they can they know throwing a punch will land them in jail. So they provoke their targets so they can get them in trouble if they take a swing. Playing the victim gets them sympathy points to. It’s all a game to them. They leave the violence to the violent kids with no self control. If they get caught physically bullying the target then the teachers and parents will flip out and credibility is in jeopardy. Future ruined. Easier on them to convince the whole school that the target is the crazy one/slut/obsessed danger and they are just trying to help cause they have such big hearts.
1. If you take the glasses off of someone, they immediately become attractive. 2. Jocks and cheerleaders run the school. And not just run - people worship them. 3. Everyone wears makeup and at least half the girls wear formal dresses to school (looking at you, Veronica from Riverdale). 4. People never have homework - they somehow have time to go out and party every night. 5. A person’s crush will usually like them back, as long as the aforementioned person is the main character. The two people will also awkwardly and cutely flirt before they get together, seemingly unaware that they’re “made for each other”. 6. If you’re on a sports team, you wear your letterman jacket or cheerleader uniform to school every single day.
That goes to prove that those things listed aren't like that in real life. Especially the formal dresses to school every day. The majority of us wore t-shirts and blue jeans.
Especially that one scene when the new girl or guy walk into school and suddenly their new potential best friend is walking next to them all like "are you new here?" and the newbie follows up like "Yeah, how did you guess?"

So if you were virgin, it wasn't the talk of the school and suddenly you were a loser. But I agree, the pressure needs to stop. I'm waiting, I wanna.
I remember a fifteen year old girl wrote to Oprah saying she lost her virginity to her now ex-boyfriend and regretted it. She mainly did it because of how movies depicted high school kids.
Seriously, though. I never went to the high school party (if there was one, I didn't know about it), I never got my sexy makeover, I never miraculously hooked up with my crush, and there was no naked Freddy Prince Jr. at graduation.
I think you're unlucky, maybe this sounds stupid but at the end of the year I'll finish high school and I am really sad, I'm going to miss all of it 😍😢 btw I'm sorry if i make mistakes in English, I'm french 😅
@chibilaichi Trust me. I've been at least to one party in high school. It was nothing like the movies. It was just a small group of us kids who was hanging out in the garage drinking pop. There was no alcohol and the parents were there chaperoning the party.
The biggest cliche is such strict categorization of students. I went to high school and guess what, most kids are not just jocks or nerds, or popular or unpopular, or bullies or victims. Most kids are many of that in different occasions and in different variations. Basically, while there are groups, occasionally everyone talks to everyone else and there is no permanent stigma.
1. The one jock who is nice and sweet and perfect for the main character. They also usually have divorced parents, or some sort of problem with their home life 2. The "popular kids" what are cheerleaders and jocks and super mean, the kids in the middle who are pretty smart and okay looking. They are also usually the ones to show the main character around the school, and the Nerd kids who are smart and dress awfully. They get picked on, but usually one of them becomes popular or pretty. 3. The crappy parents who are never around.
Every time they showed clips of HSM, it didn't correspond with what they were talking about. They're talking about senior year, and they show the first HSM as opposed to the third one. They talked about the jock and the head cheerleader and they show Troy, a jock and Gabriella, a science genius...not a cheerleader lol.
The high school cliche I always hated growing up was how long scenes always took place in between the bells showing kids just casually scrolling the halls as if they don't have a class to get to. Annoyed me at the time because my school was a strict 5 minutes to go to your locker, swap books, and potentially walk across campus to the next class.
By my senior year in high school, they gave us a 10 minute passing period because of what they called block scheduling. What it is is that instead of 8 classes in one day you had four. You took the other four classes the next day. Either way, we didn't waste time getting our books and getting to our next class.
The ones I notice. Classroom cliche Nerdy to Super hot cliche Bullying cliche Bitch cheerleader who bullies new kid Caffateria cliche New kid cliche Losing your virginity cliche Bathroom talk Makeover cliche Cute guy falls for a geek cliche. Some High School flicks have body swapping scenario. Goofy/hot teacher. Actors are not actually teens. the popular girls are always mean cliché the jock and headcheerleader dating cliché the love interest being a partner to the antagonist cliché Asians are always the geek cliché blondes are usually the mean girls popular or dumb cliché
Yea because it's ALWAYS caused by dropping your books all the floor, slipping on a puddle and being caught. Apparently Hollywood wanted us to believe girls are very uncoordinated...
Zulmi Garcia Me and my friends talk a lot of important junk in the bathroom or cafeteria. I'm not even in high school yet (next year I will be) but this will keep going on
You forgot, the hot/popular girl ends up with the nerdy guy in the end. The popular girls always have Valley girl accents and are dumb af and cruel. The jocks are bullies, dumb and are a-holes. When the nerdy kid walks into a party and everyone stops and stares like they give a crap. Highschool setting is always in a town not just another highschool in a city.
At my school everyone lounges all around the school. Some eat in the cafeteria. Some near their lockers or in a nook or cranny somewhere in the school. Outside, in classrooms, or in nearby restaurants or fast-food places.
Why do they never lock the bathroom stall when they're having the "emotional breakdown" in movies? Isn't the whole point of going to the bathroom to cry because you want some privacy?
I've always hated the ending of Grease - getting your guy by making all the accommodations for him while he makes none for you is really not a triumph!
at my school everyone Does care where you sit but I prefer to sit with my friend anyway because a lot of people at my school can be mean .....but heck it shouldn't matter its just a lunch table!
when I was in school, it was a huge deal. each clique sat at the same table everyday. it didn't matter if you wanted to sit with a different group that you were also friends with, that part didn't matter, like i could sit with the bandies or the goths but each group did sit at their same table.. during standardize testing once, there was a huge confusion with the lunch times and the sophomores accidentally got meshed with the juniors, it was so chaotic, and it just so happens that the sophomore goths sat at the same table the junior burnouts did and the other group made a huge scene because we wouldn't leave our table. and one of the burnout kids literally flipped the cafeteria table over on top of me. keep in mind I was a size 0 and weighed less than 100 pounds as a sophmore. this guy literally flipped a table over a little girl because we were at their table which was also our table. consider yourself lucky you didn't have to deal with that shit.
My high school had several good teachers, but our English teacher was top notch. He was so cool and relatable that students came back for years afterwards to visit him, ask him for advice, etc. He even became ordained as a minister because so many students asked him to officiate their weddings.
Aspiring cartoon creator here. I kind of had this idea where this one freshman just goes around trying to break every teenage stereotype, just for the fun of trying something new with this new stereotypical high school setting.
Here are some other cliches: Transfer student Foreign Exchange Student Dumb/Jerk Jock The dumb blonde Sadist Teacher Cool Teacher Overachiever Bad Boy The Bully Mean Girls Preppy Student Teacher's pet The Slacker The Glasses Gotta Go The nerdy girl gets a makeover The fat friend The Goth Band Geeks Emo Kid Peer Pressure Teenage Pregnancy Nerds Love Tough Schoolwork
In high school, I was bullied a lot, but that was pretty much anything special happening there. It always looked way more awesome in movies, thought that was common in America and hated that I lived in Europe 😅
"Senior Year is THE year." Well I'm a senior next year and as I know, half my friends are either dropping out or leaving...Sure hope something happens...Had a cat fight last year at lunch that about it. But the cool teacher is just about every teacher for me (I go to Doyle High in Louisiana). Most are coaches. There was one I hated, the choir teacher. Other than that, I actually don't mind school.
Lazy list 10. Cafeteria seating arrangement 9. The bathroom, for gossiping and necessary conversations and place for emotional break down 8. The one inspirational / cool teacher 7. The new kid 6. Bullies 5. Bye bye Virginity/ American Pie 4. Senior year is the year 3 Makeover for the nerd girl 2. The sports star & the cheerleader 1. The party
10. This NEVER happened at my high school. In elementary school, we got seated by grade or class in the cafeteria. 9. Talking in the bathroom... 🤔 8. That’s not a cliché, that’s real. For multiple teachers. 7. We all are. 6. Larger-than-life? But schools sometimes don’t do enough to stop bullying... 😥 5. This reached a pinnacle with American Pie. There’s nothing wrong with being a virgin. 4. OK, that’s actually true. At least for me. Senior year WAS my year. 3. This is so over-the-top. What’s wrong with nerdy girls (and boys)? I’m nerdy myself. 2. The sports star and...the cheerleader, the beauty queen, the most popular girl in school, the nerdy girl... HMs: The lone black kid?! 😳 1. Who can say they’ve never been to a high school party? 👍🏾👍🏾
There’s also the flip side of the token black guy trope. The sassy black best friend, usually female, who’s entire story arc revolves around helping the white main character
I do recall the special ed kids sat at the same table everyday. I usually sat with them because I have special needs. The rest of the kids sat wherever they wanted to. As for the restroom, I just did my business, washed my hands, and got out. I stayed a virgin until after high school. I have been to one party and it was nothing like the movies. It was a small group of friends hanging out in the garage drinking pop. The host's parents were there to chaperone.
Minus the virginity cliche, my elementary school was these cliches. That's all it was, grades 5-8 were what movies portray grades 9-12 as, right down to the bathroom bits and parties and nerdy girl makeovers, though that only happened so the nerdy girls could get used. It was a terrible time.
I was the loner Goth girl, been called a freak, loser, loner, pathetic, The popular girls would say "it's not Halloween yet" Or they say " your wearing too much make up or black" I was glad I got kicked out high school, it was hell, but I got my high school done by E-learning, still Goth lol
The mysterious outsider is actually the cool non-conformist. They tend to be smarter and more cultured, read poetry, have travelled to Europe more extensively than any other kid and bring on some sort of change in the main character by influencing them with their individuality. He or she doesn't care whether they're approved by the in crowd and they're not cruel towards the nerds and losers.
What about the overused "the nerds/geeks/bottom of the food chain kids are always good and nice while the jocks/cheerleaders/popular kids are always stuck up and mean" cliche?
Regarding cliques: Have any of you actually observed this phenomenon in the real world? I attended seven public schools throughout my own education and have taught at five other public schools (not including colleges/universities in either of those counts) and have never once seen cliques the way movies and television portray them.
Surprisingly, my school doesn't have any cliques. Everyone doesn't get along with everyone per say, but everyone is open to meeting someone new. I think its just because there is like 3,000 kids at my school, but really there are just a lot of people to meet! And I think its pretty great :3
The nerdy unpopular girl/boy are WAY to hot to be unpopular and bullied. I'm alway like "please irl (s)he IS the bullie" Or rather was, because it's usually a 27 year old playing a 16 year old....
When the heroine is being bullied and eats lunch in a bathroom stall when there are literally dozens of places she can eat that are less disgusting. No matter how angsty I ever got, I never wanted to eat food while sitting on a toilet
The shopping scene where girls try on outfits that range from "absolutely ridiculous who picked this out?" to "Omg this is SO me!" while laughing and having a good time.
I can never relate to any cafeteria scenes. The cafeteria at my school gets so loud and crowded that 90% of people are either eating outside, in classrooms, or just sitting on the floor in hallways (this is the most common). The only actual people in the cafeteria are usually just the super social grade 12s or the youngest grade who've yet to experience just how noisy the cafeteria gets.
My favorite high school movies are Mean Girls, the High School Musical series, Superbad, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, and The Breakfast Club! x3 ^.^
What about the new girl dropping her books and the new love interest picks them up and they both stare into each other's eyes

Losing your virginity cliche
Bathroom talk
Makeover cliche
Cute guy falls for a geek cliche.
Some High School flicks have body swapping scenario.
Goofy/hot teacher.
Actors are not actually teens. E. g Zac Efron was in his 20s in hsm, jason earles from hannah montana was 30 something now his 40.
Need I say more
Disney65Fan and the Ugly Duckling cliche
Disney65Fan were they really that old?
the popular girls are always mean cliché
the jock and headcheerleader dating cliché
the love interest being a partner to the antagonist cliché
Asians are always the geek cliché
blondes are usually the mean girls popular or dumb cliché
Andrew Garcia the popular girls are nice on cluelessness
Clueless I mean
The quiet, shy, nerdy girl always falls for the jock and handsome popular kid
well, IRL it happens quiet often, but, unfortunately, without happy ending most of the time
Mean girls, not another teen movie & the DUFF are my three fav teen movies
Ok, coming from an embarrassing experience you will find the bathroom cliche a real life thing
Draco wolf shit
Sometimes
Draco wolf I have never really seen that in any of the three high schools I’ve been to
Draco wolf what about Time moves at ½ speed in a high school corridor...
@@chelseacavanaugh278 I think they mean in the movies, I don't believe it's really real life, idk
bumps into crush should be number one, I mean every fucking high school movie and high school series
+Eva. I know right!?
Unless it's intentional, idk how or if that would happen in real life lol
Yea because it's ALWAYS caused by dropping your books all the floor, slipping on a puddle and being caught. Apparently Hollywood wanted us to believe girls are very uncoordinated...
I was waiting to see Heathers show up. It's my favorite movie!
Little Mix & Musicals Heathers has some of the best Qoutes!!!
They made it into a MUSICAL!!! :D It's in my top 5 list, love the songs, but I am a theater geek.
Heather is a reboot of massacure at central high
Mean Girls did every single cliché justice.
the break downs in the bathroom are true tho.
I'm not even in highschool but still me and A LOT of other girls have had breakdowns in the bathroom so that is true....
Bathroom is just a perfect place to hide
Zulmi Garcia Me and my friends talk a lot of important junk in the bathroom or cafeteria. I'm not even in high school yet (next year I will be) but this will keep going on
@@Name-d2t,exactly
Zulmi Garcia I’ve never seen them in the three high schools I’ve been to
You forgot, the hot/popular girl ends up with the nerdy guy in the end.
The popular girls always have Valley girl accents and are dumb af and cruel.
The jocks are bullies, dumb and are a-holes.
When the nerdy kid walks into a party and everyone stops and stares like they give a crap.
Highschool setting is always in a town not just another highschool in a city.
It's true tho. I mean they are most of the time
Heathers, clueless, grease and mean girls are the bomb
autumn shadow yes they r
It's because they need a plot that makes high school interesting
To me, a german, even the facts that american football teams exist and cheerleading is a thing in american higschools, is so freaking stereotypical.
Starboi what about ... but not as important as the instant credibility that comes with taking your glasses off.
Same here, I'm Italian and to me that is the ultimate American high school movie cliché.
My school doesn't have a cafetria.... Everyone eats outside.
At my school everyone lounges all around the school. Some eat in the cafeteria. Some near their lockers or in a nook or cranny somewhere in the school. Outside, in classrooms, or in nearby restaurants or fast-food places.
Hetalia Trash That sounds awesome!
Like dogs
Same... We aren't allowed inside lmao
My old school I ate in the classroom but when I moved I got a school with a cafeteria
Why do they never lock the bathroom stall when they're having the "emotional breakdown" in movies? Isn't the whole point of going to the bathroom to cry because you want some privacy?
saammmy7 what about Everywhere is an emotional place for Devon Sawa.
I've always hated the ending of Grease - getting your guy by making all the accommodations for him while he makes none for you is really not a triumph!
In my cafeteria we sit any fucking where 💀 like no one cares
at my school everyone Does care where you sit but I prefer to sit with my friend anyway because a lot of people at my school can be mean .....but heck it shouldn't matter its just a lunch table!
Ayanna English Damn you lucky then, people will fight you if you want to sit with them.
We don't even have a cafeteria at my school
Ayanna English most kids in my school leave during lunch or are in the courtyard they also go to the football field and smoke
when I was in school, it was a huge deal. each clique sat at the same table everyday. it didn't matter if you wanted to sit with a different group that you were also friends with, that part didn't matter, like i could sit with the bandies or the goths but each group did sit at their same table.. during standardize testing once, there was a huge confusion with the lunch times and the sophomores accidentally got meshed with the juniors, it was so chaotic, and it just so happens that the sophomore goths sat at the same table the junior burnouts did and the other group made a huge scene because we wouldn't leave our table. and one of the burnout kids literally flipped the cafeteria table over on top of me. keep in mind I was a size 0 and weighed less than 100 pounds as a sophmore. this guy literally flipped a table over a little girl because we were at their table which was also our table. consider yourself lucky you didn't have to deal with that shit.
first time watchmojo made an actually accurate and good list
Lain Warisa right
Lain Warisa what about Computers are either extremely sinister…
I remember the cafeteria seating, the new kid, and the bully cliches made me terrified to go to high school.
my high school was literally nothing like this
Michelle what about Whereas everyone you think is a lesbian…
The underdog always gets the crush.
Anthony Bennett what about Renée Zellweger and Joey Lauren Adams are definitely twins.
RIP in peace Robin Williams!
Julia Rivard Rest In Peace in peace robin williams.
My high school had several good teachers, but our English teacher was top notch. He was so cool and relatable that students came back for years afterwards to visit him, ask him for advice, etc. He even became ordained as a minister because so many students asked him to officiate their weddings.
that is some bizarre charisma he's got there
Aspiring cartoon creator here. I kind of had this idea where this one freshman just goes around trying to break every teenage stereotype, just for the fun of trying something new with this new stereotypical high school setting.
Do it, please
what kind of high school girls bathroom has no line
My high school
Private school
I’ve seen my school bathroom have a line when the school lunch foods made everyone sick asf
Sabrina Spencer I know right
Sabrina Spencer what about Clear vision is important...

Dumb/Jerk Jock
The dumb blonde
Sadist Teacher
Cool Teacher
Overachiever
Bad Boy
The Bully

Preppy Student
Teacher's pet
The Slacker

The fat friend
The Goth
Band Geeks
Emo Kid
Peer Pressure
Teenage Pregnancy
Nerds Love Tough Schoolwork
In high school, I was bullied a lot, but that was pretty much anything special happening there. It always looked way more awesome in movies, thought that was common in America and hated that I lived in Europe 😅
Did you stick up for yourself or tell your parents or teacher bullies are evil
16 candles!! My fav😍😍😍
What about the walk down the cooridor?
CharlotteC do you mean the slow-mo, everyone parts like the red Sea walk down the corridor?
Charlotte Carson what about Teenagers don't make the best lyricists.
Charlotte Carson jawbreaker, Mean girls, Easy A...
Whoever narrates these videos and writes what to say you’re my hero
In that one class, they are always learning about something related to what they are going through
I was surprised Twilight never came up as some of these examples.
pineapplel0ve what about … is actually straight.
Didn’t need to, twilight contained almost every cliche
"Senior Year is THE year."
Well I'm a senior next year and as I know, half my friends are either dropping out or leaving...Sure hope something happens...Had a cat fight last year at lunch that about it. But the cool teacher is just about every teacher for me (I go to Doyle High in Louisiana). Most are coaches. There was one I hated, the choir teacher. Other than that, I actually don't mind school.
I was always the kind of guy who crushed on the nerdy girl in glasses long before their glo up 😂
Lazy list
10. Cafeteria seating arrangement
9. The bathroom, for gossiping and necessary conversations and place for emotional break down
8. The one inspirational / cool teacher
7. The new kid
6. Bullies
5. Bye bye Virginity/ American Pie
4. Senior year is the year
3 Makeover for the nerd girl
2. The sports star & the cheerleader
1. The party
10. This NEVER happened at my high school. In elementary school, we got seated by grade or class in the cafeteria.
9. Talking in the bathroom... 🤔
8. That’s not a cliché, that’s real. For multiple teachers.
7. We all are.
6. Larger-than-life? But schools sometimes don’t do enough to stop bullying... 😥
1. Who can say they’ve never been to a high school party? 👍🏾👍🏾
The main character getting shamed in front of the whole school.
This one time at band camp.....
"the over the top pranks that should probably get someone arrested"
*cough*heathers*cough*
The fact my teacher played this in class was weird
Senior year really is the best high school year, though haha
I was the loner Goth girl, been called a freak, loser, loner, pathetic,
The popular girls would say "it's not Halloween yet"
Or they say " your wearing too much make up or black" I was glad I got kicked out high school, it was hell, but I got my high school done by E-learning, still Goth lol
At my school, the smart nerds were the most popular people because everybody loved them including the teachers.
Love that a lot of your seems were taken from not another teen movie which actually pokes fun at all of these tropes... well done
What about the overused "the nerds/geeks/bottom of the food chain kids are always good and nice while the jocks/cheerleaders/popular kids are always stuck up and mean" cliche?
She Who Runs With Scissors. Yeah I know some really stuck up nerds and I know jocks and cheerleaders that are Absolute Angels!
Okay the token black friends should've made this list 😂
blackfemme omg them and the token gay best friend
Token foreign kid is another one...almost always Mexican or Indian
Or Asian (Sixteen Candles, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)
And that's why South Park has a character named Token Black.
**Video shows Umbridge**
Me (who has just reread Order of Phoenix): **Hisses**
"...or surprisingly romantic"
*pushes him into a laundry bin*
Regarding cliques:
Have any of you actually observed this phenomenon in the real world? I attended seven public schools throughout my own education and have taught at five other public schools (not including colleges/universities in either of those counts) and have never once seen cliques the way movies and television portray them.
There are actually cliques like that, we have them in my school as well
If there were I never saw one. Even if they did exist movies tend to exaggerate a lot.
I have seen it a lot I mean a lot but some do it harshly and some dont
This video actually makes me really miss high school, because most of these things are relevant in real life, lol...
I'm the lonely black kid LOL😂😂😂
i saw Umbridge and I grabbed a knife
I cannot tell a lie... she was a bitch & I wanted her to die!
She's all that is my favorite movie.
Surprisingly, my school doesn't have any cliques. Everyone doesn't get along with everyone per say, but everyone is open to meeting someone new. I think its just because there is like 3,000 kids at my school, but really there are just a lot of people to meet! And I think its pretty great :3
what about how the only genre of music in their world is alternative rock.
Michael Lewis. ikr
GaGa for SaGa what about Foreign exchange students are all Sports Illustrated models.
Isn't ironic how mainstream alternative rock is
0:15 *Cap!Steve Rogers!!!is this your highschool life?*
The nerdy unpopular girl/boy are WAY to hot to be unpopular and bullied. I'm alway like "please irl (s)he IS the bullie"
Or rather was, because it's usually a 27 year old playing a 16 year old....
85stumpen what about No high school prom is complete without a semi-famous rock band in attendance.
some clichés are actually true though for High School
Britany Anderson as a high schooler, no, they're not true here😂 I can't think of a single thing that actually happens that is shown in those movies.
guess it depends on the high school, mine had a few of them
My high schools don't even have prom
Britany Anderson what about The bathroom is an emotional place for Robin Tunney.
Lexi Grey is that you
Brittany Ibarra lol, yeah when I saw her in greys anatomy I thought about another teen movie.
In the anime movies, it's always the protagonist who sits in the back next to the window. If they don't, they ain't important
This is so funny and true omg
Lucy McGraw-Pierson what about … or completely ridiculous.
When the heroine is being bullied and eats lunch in a bathroom stall when there are literally dozens of places she can eat that are less disgusting. No matter how angsty I ever got, I never wanted to eat food while sitting on a toilet
College was so much better than high school, for me.
I mean, high school didn't suck for me, but compared to college, it was a total bore.
The shopping scene where girls try on outfits that range from "absolutely ridiculous who picked this out?" to "Omg this is SO me!" while laughing and having a good time.
Scream: is that you Randy? Iconic he all shaking his head...somebody bout to die tonight lol
So happy they did Not Another Teen Movie instead of She’s All That😊👍🏽❤️gotta love Chyler Leigh
My favorite high school movies are Mean Girls, the High School Musical series, Superbad, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, and The Breakfast Club! x3 ^.^
I am totally and completely IN LOVE with She's All That
You forgot the smart asian kid.
