WOW! ROB MACHADO RIPPING LOWER TRESTLES

The year was 1993 and Rob Machado showed up at Lower Trestles for the annual WQS Bud Tour Event relaxed and ready to win the thing.
Filmmaker Tony Roberts was filming that day, gathering action footage and interviews for his feature length surf video Mental Surfing (released on VHS in 1994- full movie link here: • MENTAL SURFING VOLUME ...
Besides a couple clips used in Mental Surfing, the footage you see here has never been seen before.
On display is Robs technical, precise style, fitting in maximum quantity of maneuvers on the quick walls, fulfilling the judging criteria of the day to a "t".
"The Mob"
Rob Machado, born in Austrailia but raised in North County, San Diego, California, is known as one of the world's most prolific free-surfers, but he was largely active in the competitive surfing scene from 1993 to 2000, competing in World Surf League events until 2012. This was filmed before the accolades, multiple world title campaigns, and big hair, when Rob was a bright-eyed grommet, ready to take on the world with his unique talent and performance.
Machado hosts and participates in an annual event held at his home reef called the Rob Machado Surf Classic and Beach Fair, portrayed "himself" in the 2007 animated picture, Surf's Up and is a 2011 inductee into the Surfing Walk of Fame in Huntington Beach, California in the surf champion category.
He formed the Rob Machado Foundation, an organization focused on environmental causes.
Machado has won the Pipeline Masters (Triple Crown of Surfing), the U.S. Open of Surfing, and most every trophy available to a pro surfer in the 1990s and 2000's.
He is still ripping to this day, and his line of Rob Machado Surfboards on Firewire can be seen on baches worldwide.
