When he says Media, he might only be referring to the news. Most british news casts are not very knowledgeable. Very few articles do due diligence now a days. I cannot count the number of stories I've read where the writer neglected to double check obvious facts, or just omitted certain facts that should of been reported on. But then...that does beg the question. How did he come to that completely wrong, backwards set of ideals and ideas if he doesn't find them out from the news? couple things on the guns you as a non American might not understand. The problem we have with red flag laws is, it fundamentally goes against our constitution and due process. You would see people reporting everyone they don't like to get their guns taken away. Also We certainly DO have background checks EVERY gun purchased from a dealer MUST do background checks and they get audited by the ATF often. There is no " gun show loophole" all retailers selling guns at a gun shows must still do background checks. some states do allow private sales between individuals without back ground checks, but if you look at the states that allow that there is 0 correlation to crime. Maine for example allows that and it one of the safest states in the country. We have far more guns in this country than people there's almost nothing they could do to change anything when it comes to guns. We have a social problem not a gun problem, crazy people will always find a way to do horrible things. My personal opinion that i think would help the most is....Stop giving the people that do these shooting the fame they want, the media should never show their face or mention their name.

There’s must be a solution. I know the constitution is important to Americans but it cannot get in the way of vital change. Guns don’t need to be banned but there needs to be better methods at stopping them ending up in the hands of kids who go and shoot up schools. It doesn’t happen in Europe, the idea of a school shooting is so alien to us. It’s a difficult thing to solve but it needs to be done and I think loyalty to the constitution needs to be put aside just slightly to stop your innocent children being murdered so regularly. I know you say there are checks and regulations but they clearly aren’t working.

Absolutely nothing, criminals do not follow the laws there are always going to be illegal guns that are accessible to anybody that wants to buy them. You can't shut down the black market of guns just like the black market for drugs can't be shut down. The only thing these regulations are going to do is shut down law abiding citizens. I would argue that we have less of a gun problem in the US and more of a mental health crisis that is being ignored and it is festering.

Seattle lost police funding and there were no police zones that turned into a mess. It most certainly was done.
Like I said, it was down in some places, and of course Seattle was one of those, but they’re pretty much going back on that now and refunding them.
The reason why they are currently backtracking is because IT DIDN'T work. Look at all the businesses pulling out of those places and you'll see it. San Francisco is in such a state now that it will probably never recover. NY is on that path atm.@@TWReactz

@@TWReactz You literally said no one defunded the police. Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, NYC, Los Angeles, D.C., Portland, all defunded their police departments. It wasn't until crime began to skyrocket that they started to walk back those stupid policies. Some cities even tried to implement a system the redirected 911 calls to social workers instead of police officers. My city of St. Louis is a prime example of that. Don't pretend like you know squat about what's happening in our nation if all you know are the absurd lies from the left.

I never said there weren’t calls, I’m saying it was rarely actually put into practice. Funding has increased, it being managed well but it has increased.

Un theory it would be great to just ban guns, it works here in the UK, but of course it completely unworkable in the US, however you can’t keep sitting back and letting these school shooting happen so regularly, you don’t need to ban guns but at least do fucking something, kids die all the time in school shootings over there and it just doesn’t happen in Europe. There needs to be some sort of step in the right direction with more regulation on who can buy guns.

Which was caused mostly from democratic policies that have rewarded single mothers to not have the father in the home. The media and pretty everything else is and has been attacking the nuclear family for generations now in America. You do realize you can make guns right. All you need is a 3D printer. Not as fancy as the real thing but definitely does the same thing in the end.
We have barely any gun crime. Yes there knife crime but a criminal with a knife kills far less people than a criminal with a gun, and school shootings are non existent here, as with the rest of Europe.
There is of course a mental health epidemic, but having guns in such high concentration that are so easy to get means those mentally I’ll people can kill innocent people far easier. There’s a reason we don’t have school shootings here, it’s very simple, guns aren’t legal.

Cities in the US ABSOLUTELY detunded police. Crime rose exponentially, in the most liberal, defunded, concentrated areas it rose by almost 200% . The governors who initially pushed for this felt they would get support from the Democrats. But when the left just shrugged, these governor's immediately begged for funding as their police and firefighters were literally fleeing their constituency. So yes funding increased AFTER the policy of defunding the police failed. People were assaulted raped and killed in this time its not a little thing to be scoffed at

I think the idea is more around people actually wanting to defund the police instead of the results you said. They did defund police departments.
There were some that were sure, but most have now been reversed. As for the idea I don’t think it’s a terrible one, investing more into preventative measures to stop crime at its route cause, but that takes time so you can’t cut police spending massively all at once, it needs to be a gradual transition to a different way of dealing with crime.

There are other ways to inflict massive damage. So remove the gun and the tool used to create the destruction changes. But the core issue remains. More than 38,000 people die every year due to car accidents in the US. Around 6 million car accidents happen. Compared to 12,520 gun deaths it seems cars are far more dangerous. Never once have heard anyone claim we need to get rid of cars. Or even suggest we need stricter license requirements for being able to drive. There are roughly 433.9 million guns in the US. There are roughly 290.8 million vehicles in the US. So vehicles statistically are far far more dangerous. To me it's very clear the removal of guns isn't to save anyone. It's a political talking point and scare tactic designed to remove our ability to stand up to our government. China tried to revolt and were actually shooting home made bow and arrows at armed military. Because that's all they are allowed therefore they pose little threat.
Same for cars. There are a lot more people killed by cars than guns....we should get rid of cars.

I brought my wife from Indonesia to America and my friend wouldn't even stop in the Seattle area, where I was from before I worked overseas for 6 years. First point, where Tom lives the police WERE defunded, and the aftermath resulted in police not responding to non-emergency calls, crimes waves increased heavily, and then after seeing that they severely messed up with that decision they decided to fix it.
The movement has had serious ups and downs but there's no denying that police defunding was very active in quite a few large cities and it resulted in crime waves and police force quitting/retiring/unable to be proactive etc.

I have friends that are on the right and left, I even have friends that are proclaimed socialist and we chat every now and again about politics no harm, no foul. We have intellectual discussions and tend to agree on a lot of issues just different paths. I don't know how much about America that you know about but there are people who are willing to take your money for whatever you want to get they'll get it for you for a certain amount of money it doesn't matter what the laws say there are people willing to do it. Your country might be able to get away with taking guns away from everybody but that's because you are a island with no land borders other than to other parts of your own country. Here in the US however we've got a nearly unsecure border between us and Mexico then we have a very much unsecure border between us and Canada criminals can go to other countries get a shit ton of guns and then come back into the US and sell them and not just little pew pew guns no big guns huge guns with large magazine sizes and the ammo that could fight a small army. The situation here in the US is vastly different than it is over in your country The only thing that gun restrictions and gun laws will ever do here in the US is stop law-abiding citizens from getting guns that is it. It will not stop a homicidally insane individual from finding somebody that will sell them the gun. In the US the answer to gun violence is not less guns it's more guns. The places where we get gun violence happening is in gun-free zones. We have more people killed here in the US in gun Free zones than anywhere else in our country if you've ever heard of the store Cabela's you will have never heard of one ever being robbed and here's the reason why they sell repair and maintain guns at these stores and the criminals know it so they do not go anywhere near the stores to even attempt to rob it because the patrons of these stores more than likely have a gun and as good people are willing to defend the defenseless with sad gun. As I said in another one of my comments to you your worldview is narrow learn more about the realities of this world kid because if you go to some places you are going to learn hard truth and it will eat you alive and spit out your bones without a care in the world.
