When it comes to backups, I often disagree with Travis… not this time. Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels would have burnt the Cowboys with that pocket. Afterward Bennett thought he “played well”? Time to look at Winn for the temp backup for the first two games. Doug, comparing him to Wolford or Perkins, the data doesn’t back you up. Most of the passes were short and he could not see the field over 30 yards. I guess you forgot about Perkins’ completed deep passes with McCutheon and others. Unfortunately, Coach will give Bennett another pass; play him until he performs good enough; then use one good performance to keep him on the roster. Sorry Dresser... Oh well. The Positives: The WR room is gonna be strong. Worthington was better than I expected and I thought he would be a starter! He will ball out. The TACKLING was so solid, back to basics hit and wrap up… loved it. The defense and OL backups were showing up, and the Rams had to feel good about this. Go Rams.
Stafford's first year he was 13 td 20 int----look at his time in Detroit with Megatron and his playoff success before tearing into Bennetts welcome back game. Look he has to play in a system built for a broken down pocket passer!--we cant hide it. Im a Jets fan first so since Travis has never said anything good about Bennett----I hope he goes bye bye and the Jets put him on the practice squad. I say give Stetson Bennett some more time. I saw some good things from him. Those 4 INTS we also the fault of the 4th string wide receivers. I think he's an NFL QB and the Rams should continue to keep him in the fold. He got better than last year. He has a decent arm and has that it factor to lead game winning drives. When the situation forced Stetson Bennett, he won. The whole game he was playing to mimic Matthew Stafford. He can't do that. Stetson Bennett wins with improvisation.
Manning too was a turnover machine. Stetson’s mechanics and everything looked great, he just made 4 bad decisions, two of which were the exact same decision to the exact same receiver with which he hasn’t developed enough rapport. He went up high for Whittington but Whittington didn’t turn hands up and get high, he gave up before Stetson even threw the ball

Stetson had some nice throws and showed his mobility, the guy hasn't played in a pre-season game since last year, agreed the picks are bad.. interesting they came with no pressure, something he can watch film and correct, seemed like he was forcing it, Stetson will get more reps and be fine, Jimmy is the veteran QB2 for now, Stetson has time to learn and get it together, but no.. Rypien was horrible.. with Rypien we couldn't even complete a pass at times..
Hate when people say preseason games are meaningless. This is the depth of your roster, for one. Second, these games are VERY meaningful to guys trying to make a team.
Yes he had 4 interceptions but overall for his first full game in over a year, he still shows signs of why he was so successful at Georgia. Dude has some serious talent that once he calmed down showed through. He has what it takes, just needs to settle back into the game.
Interceptions aside I can actually see some skill Bennett & improvement in other areas. Faster release as well that was noticeable. He actually can throw the ball down the field.
Bennet needs to do what Stafford does and look defenders away. Make the defenders do what you want them to do with your eyes. Stafford is an elite QB. Mathew please teach Bennet your ways.

I honestly think Bennett throws a way better ball with decent zip compared to wolford, Perkins etc. those guys cannot throw the ball more than a slant or 10 yards.

The two take aways from this game that I hope you guys cover this week is first how well the back up o-line played. They only sacked Bennett once and gave him so much time that it unfortunately made those happy feet more apparent. The second was the defense. The front 4 were getting close to Trey Lance every play and other than early when VanValkenburg dipping inside allowing Lance to break contain, they kept him pretty bottled up. Tyler Davis has a motor that doesn't quit. We might have some serious depth on the defensive line. The defense really made up for the disastrous play of Bennett.

Bennett needs to settle down and not feel like he has to just get rid of it and that will come with time and more games.

You can definitely see the improvement at linebacker and EDge with a lot of guys from the last couple years. They react way faster.
