When seeing his feet dancing at the pedals I keep thinking of the possibly apocryphal story about how a contemporary of Bach was so incensed at the fact that some rich man wanted to give Bach a gold ring for each of Bach's fingers after a particularly grand performance, the fellow said: "DON'T FORGET HIS FEET!"
As a boy in the 1960s, I used to watch my father play this (and many other things) at St Brides Church, Fleet Street, London. It always awed me that one person could do all that. It still does. Thank you so much for the memory and a superb performance!
A phenomenal reading! The vitality, the registration, and the overwhelming handling of the big pedal point at 2:55 and its resolution - which I note with no surprise is the most replayed section of the video.
The most remarkable organist in the world the only one who received a Grammy. His name is Another Bach! I can not believe it so perfect. Paul you are touching souls and hearts, I really love your concerts and I miss them!❤❤❤❤❤
Sir, I am speechless. This is one of my favorite pieces by Bach whom I consider to be the greatest composure in history. What an incredible performance! Bravo! 👏
Bach s’est bien amusé à mettre toutes les difficultés dans cette œuvre comme les longs et complexes tirades au pédalier...un seul mot bravo Un seul regret la réverbération de cet orgue si commun aux instruments d’églises...
Dear Mr. Jacobs, thank yoy for these outstanding videos. Wonderful performance and beautiful footage in 4K...I hope to find more music from this Ruffatti organ !!!!❤
Just an excellent performance of this might Fugue! I could listen to Mr. Jacobs playing on this organ all day!!! Especially if his playing was BACH ! Thanks for taking the time to enhance our lives through your magnificient playing of BACH. I do sincerely appreciate it.
You're the most perfect, clear-cut, fifty karat diamond I've ever seen. I think you are making History right now... related to being one the 21st Century's finest. And ignorant me... just discovered you about three weeks ago. I'd like to hear some of your compositions and/or improvs. Congratulations on a long and prosperous career. Best wishes. CVD
This organ and Paul Jacobs have produced the "Great" Fuge in G Minor as close to the way I think Bach intended it from any other renditions I have heard. The timing, the chiff, are authentic!
Mr Jacobs, first of all, thank you very very much for this beautiful interpretation of yours. Everything is really impressive and you've added many layers of color through your registration and perfect tempo. I have a strong emotional connection with this piece and, from the many videoclips I have watched from various organists playing this wonderful fugue, yours is my choice as the best record ever. I am an organist myself in São Paulo, Brazil, and I wish i could play as majestic and technically accurate as you do, truly inspiring. Bach is my favorite composer and the complexity and elegance of his work just emanate from your fingers giving us the impression that everything is effortless, pure sprezzatura. By the way, consider your pose at the end of the video stolen, it is just the perfect ending for any keyboard piece being recorded on camera. Thanks once more, from a huge fan of yours all the way from South America.
I Could Not Of Better Said What You Did Of Mr Paul Jacobs! 2 Years Ago I Had The Privilaged Of Attending A Concert Here In Utica NY Where I JUST SO Happen To Live & After His SMASHING FLAWLESS Performance I Was SO Honored To Be Is SUCH HIGH TOP Of The World Of In His Distinguished Talent & Position & Have My Picture Taken Next To Him! WOW! I WILL ALWAYS! ALWAYS! TREASURE THAT MOUMMENT IN Time. To Be In Such A PURE ENVIROMENT Of NOTHING BUT Augmented, Mutated Various Metal & Wood Pipe The Actual INTERIOR Of THESE AMAZING Instruments IS Quite Spectacular But To Be There Listening To The Father Of MUSIC Mr. BACH Himself & To Have Mr Paul Jacobs Be Born With Such Talent Is A Mind Blowing Experience To Be Able To Hear Mr Paul Jacobs Organ Experience Is Complete JOY! Lucky For Me Being The Son Of A Methodist Minister Out In My Home State Of Montana Paul Jacobs During A Interview On RUclips Did Just So Happen To Mention This Quaint Historic City Called Helena Where I Did A Concert At A Absolutely Lovely Cathedral There In Helena Where They Have A Very Nice 3 Manual Pipe Organ. Although My Dad Was The Methodist Minister It Happened In My Own Home State & City. HOW COOL & IRRONIC IS THAT? So Cool Meeting Such Organ Enthusiastic Such As Your Self. What A Wonderful & Exciting World Mr Jacobs Leads. If ANY MEDIA VIDEO Companies Would Be Cool To Put Out A Video Of The World OF Paul Jacobs. A Documentary Of ONES SUCH MUSICAL GREATNESS TRULY SHOULD BE ARCHIVED. Loved Your Post.
FLAWLESS As Usual. Best EVER VERSION. Love Your Registration Choice! I Am Curious If The AO Skinner Organ Also Was Refurbished As Well. I Know The Rufatti Organ Was Completely Redone. Well Let Me KNOW AWSOME PLAYING As Always. NEVER Tired Of Getting My Organ Fix Each And Every Day Listening To Paul Jacobs & Other WELL KNOWN Concert Organist.
Brilliant performance. A slight clarification: Mr. Jacobs, I believe you’re the first solo organist to win a Grammy. E. Power Biggs won a Grammy in 1969 in the chamber music category for his “Glory of Gabrieli: Vol. II” album, together with the Edward Tarr Brass Ensemble.
While watching this wonderful performance, I noticed that at the 02:43 mark, the organ stops seemed to configure automatically. How is this achieved? Is it through some kind of mechanical setup, or are there electronic aids involved? I am very curious and would love to learn more about this technology and its application in performance. Thank you very much!
M° Paul gentilmente un'informazione: non è che avrebbe registrato l'opera Omnia per Organo di J.S. Bach, e se si, dove potrei trovarla? Grazie e cordiali saluti.
Just Amazing.

Jacobs always makes perfection look easy when he plays.
As a boy in the 1960s, I used to watch my father play this (and many other things) at St Brides Church, Fleet Street, London. It always awed me that one person could do all that. It still does. Thank you so much for the memory and a superb performance!
🥰 glad that organ was saved
Love the sound! Bach is smiling down on you! Thank you!

Bach at his very, very best. Good performance, again in late nineteenth-century style.
Heavenly composition, playing, sound!

Wow. As a beginning keyboard player trying to play Bach, Bravo.

Wonderful! Come and play on one of Europes Cavaillé Coll organs to get the full experience.

Excellently executed. Memory work is amazing!

Ruffatti refurbished the entire organ including the Aeolian-Skinner pipes. The organ also has some digital stops.

Watch one of his fingers quickly push a piston (button) under one of the keyboards that adjusts the organ stops.
Do you have a recording of the St Anne fugue on RUclips? This is great!
Not yet, but thank you for the idea!
Essa mensagem foo pramim
Please play Passacaglia and Fugue Cminor on this organ!

Only 5 keyboards? Is that enough? He needs at least another 2 surely?
Sehr geehrter Herr Organist, Sie müssen Bach verstehen, nicht herunterrattern. Pfarrer Dr. Hubert Tietzel-Grassall
Excellent playing! A bit too fast for my liking.
