Nice one, we have a 50B too, replaced a few seals etc already. The manual throttle is to the right hand side of the seat down on the floor, sticks out the very base of the seat. The big lever on the right is for the diff lock. The square plate in the toolbox with the 4 holes is the drive flange for the hydraulic pump, and the shaft with the gear is one of the hydraulic pumps gears. If you ever need to replace the pump shaft it is a reverse thread (left hand) we had to do the rubber dampers on the flange a while ago and the drive coupling sheared. White house hydraulics still do bits for the pump and the drive couplings. SJ spares did the rubber dampers and most of the seals we got from sparex and malpas tractors.

As you sit looking out the front window, there should be a hand throttle down on the floor at your right hand, under the seat. We have a standard clutch and gear 50B. Best machine ever was made. That's where the hand throttle is. Good luck with your machine. Im looking forward to seeing her in her former glory.

Is that for burying the money, no Cavan jokes. Great purchase for the farm, very handy and will do the same job as a machine at twice the cost. When I seen you with the shovel cleaning the drains I thought that man needs a wee digger. 😀

Adrian, being as meticulous, tidy and thorough as he is, I think that over time, we can expect to see this be eventually fully restored with a new paint job. Adrian may be thinking of only fixing what is necessary at this point in time, but I'm pretty sure that it not being 'complete' and looking good will bother him little by little. In this video, he spoke about changing the plastic glass for a different and better substitute. I'll wager that this substitute eventually will be replaced with proper glass. ...and so on and so forth...This is what I like about Adrian. He looks after his equipment so that it looks after him.

Had an MF211on the Farm I worked on when I left school. Very handy. Used it to load silage out of the clamp and in the summer took off the backacter and used to stack big round bales. There was a User Manual in the shed for it. Among other "How to" sections it even had full instructions of how to use the machine to dig graves

Used the MF 50 B with instant reverse loading lime spreaders the front loader was exceptionally especially with the toque converter, But the rear actor was a heap of rubbish, Always breaking and finally snapped the bottom housing right through which supports the swing motor, Ended up buying a Matbro ram 40 D from Matbro in Horley Surrey, For loading muck & sludge also lime. Great show and especially good camera positioning 🇬🇧🇮🇪.

Adrian, tractor Time With Tim and Goodworks Tractors have some videos on third-function kits. I think Tim did a few videos on that topic. And Lord Muck and Clarence Fud-Weasel are to UK gents that have a lot of knowledge on tractor rebuilding. Clarence rebuilds a lot from bottom to top and likely knows what you need. Nice addition.. i can honestly say it will be a handy second loader to have as well.. we have a 50B mk2 with 2 stick digger control, ( posh 😂) the torque converter and floor pedals shuttles which when you press them both down together you get revs with no movement. It came home when i worked at a local dealers FarmServices when i was 17ish and its still with us... now im 44 ish 😅 .. and to be fair we haven't spent a lot on her but she is always ready to go and work when asked.. steering drop shaft was replaced though that made a huge difference. Well wear with her. Your right they are very handy yoked around a farm. Have a 59hx here for the last 20 years. A but shook but mechanically perfect. Rebuilt the engine a few years back and its purring away.same loader and back actor as your 50b.
The lock rams on the back are single acting which is why you dont see them working. Once you turn the pressure off they can move, you actually lift or lower the back arm arm they retract. Once in position turn the pressure back on and they lock.
We have removed the king post a few times as they can wear. Your are right to just replace it fully. Can be a bit trick so best to do it on flant solid ground and have enough room for the loader tractor as you will need it to take the arm on and off.
Trying to remember about the hand throttle as cousins of mine had one years ago and it had one. Think it was under the seat. Will be watching with interest as I need to do a few jobs on mine and need to get a new slew motor. Might try counghnatys to see if they have one.
Another good place for info is MP Crowley in Cork. They were agents and have loads of experience of work on them.
    The lock

Great machine we run about 4 50bs on our farm with the last 20 years. Something you should look out for is a 3 service unit comes with the 3 levers all you have to do is join your pipes. Another thing you should do is put a hydrostatic unit into it you wont regret it if you do, makes the steering so much better if your lifting Something heavey with the front loader such as a bale of silage

We’ve had a few Massey diggers, a 1967 Massey 50 first of all with no cab, what a beast, then a 50b like yours with a similar quick hitch, excellent for loading in the clamp especially in winter when the main loader tractor was busy, then a 50D…. 50D was let down by too many electrics and complicated brakes, that went to Rodney Neil over in Ireland…
I’ve got a JCB 804 as my digger just now but I’d still buy an early Massey 50 if I came across a half decent one!

Hey Adrian, nice little machine there. That little shaft with the cog in the toolbox, very important service tool! It's actually a shaft from a front hydraulic pump. You will need it if you ever want to change the fan belt. The machine is different to your regular old Massey as it has a shaft running from the lower pulley forward to the pump which needs to be removed and slid forward to change the fan belt, a hateful job!! When you take off the hydraulic pump, that shaft slides into the splines of the shaft and you can use a stilson to unthread it and pull it forward enough to pass the fan belt through. Handy that it came with it because we did a fair bit of head scratching the first time we had to replace a belt on our 50hx. Best of luck with it👍
Edit: now that I think about it, I think you can actually unbolt the plate on the front of the pulley rather than unscrew the shaft but you will still need the spare shaft to turn the engine to reach the bolts. Been a while since I've had to do it, thank god!

Adrian best of luck with it, mighty job for leveling clay or gravel with the front bucket or redding sheughs and digging drains once the rear carriage is sorted.Thats a very honest review and i've no doubt the the 50B that we see in the work horse clothes will soon be a a very credible show pony!.
