  • This site of project is located Shergarth, Dargai, Peshawar Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. Vertical head is 8 feet and discharge of water is 163 cusecs.
Nature has specially bestowed our lovely country with countless blessings including, high mountains covered white snow, the main source of water, lush green trees on these mountains, abundant resources of water, deserts, plains, four seasons, minerals, coal resources, salts resources. In Punjab and Khyber Punkhtunkhwa, there is a big network of canals with hydraulic jumps or slopes for flowing of water from a higher level to lower level. These hydraulic jumps can be utilized to generate electricity by installing low head turbines in such sites and in this way cheap electricity could be produced very easily. The site in this video is located in Shergarth, near Dargai Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Pakistan. This canal is branch of a network of main canal from Swat River. A tunnel was constructed through Malakand pass during the era of British rule in 1905 and the project was completed in 1912. The main purpose of construction of this tunnel was to irrigate the land of three districts of Peshawar named as Mardan, Swabi and Charsadda by extending a network of canals from this tunnel. There are countless hydraulic jumps suitable for installation of low head turbines to generate electricity at small level. Some notables having money have constructed microhydel power projects on these canals to generate electricity for their domestic needs or commercial purposes like electricity for ice factory, or plastic industry etc.

Are you sure that this is in Pakistan and not Egypt?? I only ask because that wheel is spinning at a pharaoh speed…. BOOM BOOM!! :) :) Great project, there should be a lot more of this throughout the world. I’m none too fussed about global warming, the polar bears always look so happy floating about on their chunk of melting ice… No, it’s just that there’s a massive resource of power there and like the morons us humans are, we just let it all flow through our fingers, or indeed, rivers. Everyone else is taxed, we might as well tax rivers as well :) :)

37 KW? Ma siete sicuri? Saranno 3,7 Kw forse! Se riuscite ad usare tutta l'acqua allora si!

Actually there is room for two wheel at end of the second diversion canal can still generat the same amount as the first wheel

Oh, look here!! Knackers to the degree in hydraulic engineering some poor sod had to do, eh? What absolute idiots they were to spend 3 years at university, and a further two in the field. When all this time they could have just asked you…. I bet they feel really silly now. Now that you’ve finally pointed that out for them… Not nearly as silly as I hope you feel when you eventually get the point I’m trying to make….
No, you silly sausage; that’s not how it works. A river’s discharge is massively variable from day to day: while the spillway might look full in this video, a day later there could be hardly anything running down it. Waterwheels and power generation especially, need a steady and reliable flow of water. One could apply some variety of impulse wheel for when the river is in spate but it would wouldn’t really be worth it, ITLR, especially with the climate in Pakistan. These installations are by no means inexpensive undertakings.

Bonjour, magnifique chute d eau.
