Hey so I know that this is three years late, but I've been getting into this game as of recent and can answer this question for you. A lot of focus, at least for me, goes mostly into recognizing note colors; to keep things brief, the note colors tell you the rhythm of the pattern that you're going to play. Once you understand the pattern, it's a matter of staying calm and sticking to the rhythm. While note direction is vital as well, I often find myself grounding my focus on the rhythms and then going from there
