Soft Kill - Short Film Documentary

- I starting shooting the Soft Kill Documentary during their tour with the CHAMELEONS.
An Open Door came into my life at the right time. Having never seen them live, I searched but could find no good live footage nor any real information on them. Then their tour with Chameleons Vox came up. I wrote them and asked if I could interview and film them, and they agreed.
I drove up to Sacramento, walked in just as they were setting up and started shooting. It was surreal, but I knew the music and what I wanted and my shots just flowed naturally. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE ME TO POST THE FULL LIVE SACRAMENTO SHOW. Or any of the full lives shows in this film.
I wasn't able to do any proper interviews during tour. So a couple of months later I then up to Portland, Oregon. This was right around the time they were finishing recording their third album, "CHOKE".
Most of the major facts that most fans want to know are included in this film. Tobias talks about his career from Blessuer Grave to Soft Kill, the dark days following 2011's critically acclaimed seminal debut," AN OPEN DOOR ", to the development of the dark heavy driven second album," HERESY ", and he also talks about the elusive, " CIRCLE OF TREES".
All this and more plus some really hot live performances.

Cool doc and nice content I just subscribed. Really dig this type of behind the scenes talking mix with live performances. Keep on making killer vids for us sad music lovers. Thnx
Great job capturing their background stories. Among the new bands I've discovered Soft Kill tops the list. Been listening to them almost daily for months now.
Totally. I kinda O'Ded on them for now. But yea, they will always have a big place in my heart musically. I feel a particular kinship to this band and it's members.
One of my absolute favourite bands.
I’m probably listening to them daily. 🇸🇪🎶🎸
truly love that band. saw them live in Hamburg / Berlin. Awesome Project, keep goin on with your good work.
Thanks, always appreciate the support. It was a dream realized when I made it.
This is amazing, Soft Kill is helping keep me alive on a higher level than merely existing in the day to day, there have been a few new discoveries for me which have had the effect of making me get back to artistic work which involves writing, music, visual stuff...when you wear multiple hats it gets hard to remember why you started and how to keep going. These dark and depressing times can either galvanize one's higher self to action or just beat you down. Maybe a fight between both ahaha.
Please put out more when you can, it would be greatly appreciate by many I'm sure.
Awesome to learn more about one of my favorite bands. Thanks
Totally. I never could find any justifiable live footage nor, it seemed, any creditable information about them. As I flesh out this channel I will include more exclusive content. Including moire candid footage with the band and other live shows. As well as films of musicians in the genre. If this interests you, please subscribe to my channel and you will be notified when stuff gets posted.
Guitar wise, probably the closest sound I've heard to The original Chameleons of Reg Smithies & Dave Fielding, my favourite band of all time.
Soft Kill is damn good and their recorded music is outstanding. This band should be universally known and I hope they continue to create music & tour for many years to come!
There is a really great chance that we will both be able to enjoy new Soft Kill music and shows for some time. Tobias seems to be an unstoppable creative force. Since Heresy he appears to be on a roll. Frequent new Soft Kill content, his side projects, like Funeral Door, his t-shirt designs, a photography book , and his short films.
He seems to have a life long friend in Conrad Vollmer. Altho drummers and bass players may come and go, I have faith that that S.K. core and whatever lineup incarnation will carry on in our lifetime.
The only thing that could stop him might be a tragic shooting like a la Tupac Shakur. Tho I have to admit, I could almost get into the idea of seeing his mug on bootleg memorial shirts and murals in urban streets and city alleys around the world.
Long live Soft Kill!
I was remiss in not mentioning how good your documentary on the band was. Very well done and please do more of not only Soft Kill, but other bands you might like to cover. You've got a good eye and you tell a story very well with the way you edited the video. Well done!
I can see why Mark Burgess likes this band and how it must remind him of what it was like for The Chameleons in the early 80's leading up to the recording of my favourite album of all time for what will be 36 years next month , "Script of the Bridge"
@@BogWraith1 Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. In 2017, i shot a pilot for a TV show, based on my Liminal Voices project, where I hosted, spotlighted a band ( She Past Away in this case) , venue history, and music culture. Among things. It had some good responses from different networks. But ultimately it didn't sell. So I was left a bit disillusioned after. Started focusing on other projects. But I would like to return to this project. If there is interest.
Yeah it’s crazy. I can not stop listening to this band.
Conrad and Tobias swapped the type of guitars they played from back then to today haha
i'm glad this exists
also good quality footage, sound, editing
@@town-ie Thanks. It was a passion project. I wish I had done more with the color grading, but I sat on the footage and edit for more than a year so I just needed to get it out.
Apparently Their keyboard player eventually became their bass player for a little bit. I didn't know that till today.
that one random asshole, who doesnt like my film. sorry, if the sound sucked and doesn't meet your expectations,, im an emerging filmmaker who was lucky enough to film a time that was relative to me.But, really? in my best Ron Burgundy, "
Well i cant like that"
What album are they playing
Are you referring to tracks playing during the interviews or live songs? Different albums. Mostly from An Open Door, Heresy, and Choke.
Liminal Voices thanks 👍
Thanks :)
Haha, you're welcome. It was something that NEEDED to be done. As I expand my channelI will include more exclusive content. Including moire candid footage with the band and other live shows. As well as films of musicians in the genre. If this interests you, please subscribe to my channel and you will be notified when stuff gets posted.
all the drummer needs is the floor tom and snare mans doesnt use anything besides them lmao still killer tho
