I just stumbled upon your channel. I'm an EE with 5 years experience and it's been great refreshing my knowledge on some concepts that have gotten a bit rusty on me. You explain things incredibly well. +1 to your subscriber count.
Thank you for posting this series of tutorials! I must say, you have an amazing ability for making the most abstract concepts as clear as a bell for thickheads like me, while still finding a way to make learning entertaining! Who says knowledge has to be boring? Well done, sir!
the first vid which explained inductance very clearly. and it isn‘t unnecessary long in comparison to others. good job!
Your videos are amazing! I don't know why I've been learning electrics at college for the past 2 months, I've learnt so much more on your videos in a couple hours! Makes great revision, thanks man.
Excellent videos. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these.
I have just watched 5 of your vids and just subscibed. How in the world would anybody dislike this video is beyond me.I am currently getting my BA in engineering and your vids are more informative and relative than most my classes, are you a teacher? anyway I will watch all your vids PLEASE PLEASE KEEP THEM COMIN. and Thank You
Ammo1313 - What appears to be "bare" copper wire in the video is in fact "magnet" wire. Copper wire with a high temperature clear/colored insulating varnish. Not really a good idea to twist the wires together as shown in this video because too much flexing of the varnish will caused it to fall off and then you will have a short circuit instead of an inductor.
Great video mate, really helped to put things into perspective
Thank you for sharing freely with us your knowledge.
If you want to build a small generator(dynamo) for bike lights let say, can you approximate power output by knowing how many henrys you have in a coil?
Can you do an episode on making an inductive heater?
Youre making awesome videos especially for begginers with electronics.
Please, could you suggest a good, yet cheap, equipment! I wanna get back into service repair and, preferably, do more R&D and an afordable anlyser would come handy including that LCR meter you mentioned.
would the secondary of a mini iron-laminated transformer be in the microhenry range or the millihenry range?
thank you so much for this great explanation! Though I have one question, you can use inductors to filter out HF(high frequency) current changes but you use capacitors to filter out low frequency current changes, yes? that's why you cant just use capacitors instead of inductors right?
I LOVE inductor. They are the underdogs of the passive components
If i connect a big coil and a diode to my arduino will the tone() command sound different?
it's very useful and clear. Thanks
Thanks for a good explanation :))
I'm building a massive full bridge rectifier that I'm hoping will be able to handle 1000w, would an inductor like the ones in this video work well to help smoothen out the ripples? in addition with a capacitor bank and a 1/4w bleed resistor.
thanks for making these, they are succinct and informative!
excellent video
Love your videos, as always. I just have a few quick questions.
I have an old 'borrowed' phone charger in front of me with a bridge rectiIfier, a mess of capacitors, a voltage regulator and what looks like an inductor.
If capacitors and inductors are so similar in function, what's the point in having both? What's the difference?
Thanks, and I look forward to new videos. :-)
Thank you for the explanation!...
You are very good at doing tutorials :D I actually get it :)
oh and second question, do you think the meter I bought is far worse than LC-1000A you posted? Love your videos!
dear sir am really a big fan of your videos, well i have a question , i have an integrated subwoofer amplifier, which when you connect the wire, it blows the car's fuse. when i connected it on my 12v adapter it does sparks on the wire dock. what could be the problem? thank you.
Great video.
What do you recommend is the best way to measure coils to find out in Henrys what their inductance value is? Do they sell meters, or build some device at home, what is your advice? I want to be able to measure coils that I wind myself using 42 awg wire. Thanks
So basically.. if I combine induction coils.. I get increased electrical resistance capacity? Is that correct??😱😱???
Informative video .. thanks alot
Great videos.
Great videos. Direct farward. Everybody should subscribe and thanx for your effortt to produce these great vidoes.
I am going to make a LC filter for video transmitter that draws 150 ma at 12 volts that will be supplied by 11.1 V 2200ma lipo battery. I am going to use a small inductor form an old power supply that looks like the one that is 3rd from the right in your video. Since the transmitter only draws 150 ma I should be fine using a smaller inductor and a 470uf capacitor rated at 25 volts. Am I thinking correctly?
I love your videos, very informative. I'm fairly new to electronics so please forgive my ignorance, how would one go about figuring out the specifics (number of turns, wire gauge, etc) to achieve a desired voltage?
I'm trying to build a stator for a 12-24v generator (2-phase, 8 coils, using 20 gauge wire), but I'm uncertain of the coil design needed to achieve the voltage I desire (at 1650RPMs, if that is a needed factor?). I have scoured the internet looking for a solution, but I haven't had much luck. Probably due to my limited electronics vocabulary.
I have a question. I would like to measure capacitors on my dead LCD backlight issue and bought a "Inductor Resistors Capacitor LCD Digital Meter Tester" from ebay @ 17.99$+8$ shipping (almost the same price as LC1000-A you posted in the description).
Now both of those seem to only test for capacitance / inductance, in F or Henry. However the meter in your video also shows the ESR value.
Three questions:
Hello, what type of Lcr meter should I buy if I want to check inductance of low resistance motors? This meter would be used in automotive applications
@Ammo1313 An inductor can be made from about any wire, as long as the coils are isolated from one and the other.
I want to run a 10kw DC motor at 72v but can only use a 24v battery. I was simply going to make a voltage trebler using capacitors, but could I use an inductor to smooth the output? I have access to any size iron core up to big enough to put your head in!
Also, would an inductor demand current from the battery such that by trebling voltage, I still get a duty cycle that is more than 1/3 ? (But run the battery down faster of course)
So AC voltage is square form by adding smoothing Caps and bridge rectifiers only smooths (less pure DC current) the current out so much but if you put an inductor before the caps and rectifier then the end result would be more purer (stable) DC volts?
How does the inductor's magnetic field create energy? I am interested in buck converters.
Nice videos, thanks!
Sir pls tell me, what is folded on the coil? Is it copper wire
Pls reply sir waiting for
+ 3 for my knowledge :D thanks. (yeah I reallly didn't watch these in order)
0:36 may i know what is that box-like component behind? i scavenged one from a radio too but i am not sure what it does. thanks
So why if Capacitors and Inductors are very similar are they both used? I assume maybe inductors are for filtering signals and caps for filtering voltage/current?
Hi my name is Roger 64 years old and was wondering if inductance could tell me
what the Amps would be on the out put of a transformer I just bought a inductance
meter and I am not sure how it going to help me new at this.
Regards Roger.
lol, nanohenry in italian sounds henry the dwarf haha. great videos, thanks for posting!
@ 1:56 the air-core inductor appears non-insulated, shouldn't you have used coated copper like in windings?
great video
I need some help fault finding on a Circuitboard. The board is one of manny in this device. It's a (martin mac 550) but you don't need to no that right now. When I heat the mean Power supply board up with a hairdryer etc it works fine. It's got capacitors, voltage regulators, inductors and much more ware is best to start looking? It's all most like the output voltage it's at the right voltage. Any thoughts??
Thanks.
lighting43 - try heating it up til it works, then spraying canned air at different areas of the board... That may help narrow it down.
if that's the case, is it the same as an resistor?
Would there be a benefit of using an inductor instead of a transformer on a power supply?
Hi
in order to buy this i need to calculate the value of that coil
6 Turns, #16 wire , 9 mm diameter.
so #16 wire is 1.291 mm right,
By my calculations it should be 0.211(uH)
Am I right?
Thanks!
1. when a capacitor or coil goes bad, can this be detected using LC-1000A by measuring only capacitance / resistance of the particular part? Is there a possiblity that a coil / capacitor still reads good inductance / capacitance values BUT has high ESR and therefore is bad?
..actually that's only one question. Thanks!
inductors are in speakers to ?or em i wrong thought while ago opened up a 3 way speak and i see coils to in it i also notice if i removed it the sound that comes out of the speaker was alot different the biggest speaker also you hear the voices now and with the coil the voices where gone i hope i explained it right
0:55 I thought inducters were used to smooth out current not voltage?
I guess he means avoiding voltage drops and peaks caused by sudden changes in load current?
Here they form lc low pass filter - this is used in buck converters
If i wrap copper wire around copper glass then will it work like coil . Will it heat my copper glass at low temprature .....
I have a solenoid valve that has 134 mH as its electromagnet, so whenever you cut its powering shocks you
I'm still waiting for the recommended LCR Meter Mr. Afro. I'm torn on spending more than 100 bucks on one.
How would I create an UBER simple 80hz low pass filter using only household components (or broken electronics)
@top2percent How about, "Oh Henry!". Would that work?
@BeeRich33 Yes, google variable inductor.
Could using a bolt have a similar effect? 1:58.
Thank you
Can this be any wire or should it be magnetic coated wire?
Good day sir. I have a question and if it is in your possibility, I would like you to help me with it. what is the difference Surface SMD 102 and 101. I need to replace them but I only find the 101 on the market.
Thanks!.
Why did the ESR change from 0.234 to 0.286???
what is the exact purpose of an inductor? Is it just to slow down the current flow?
Uwise Ahmed No it is used to store energy just like capacitor.
@@Neo-po2xw Hey Neo, Then what is the exact difference or purpose of both?
Do these inductors ever fail or get overloaded?
I believe the glue is used to stop them from resonating on high frequencies
cool!
ugh.. and i just took out inductor of old power supply as shown in video, expecting it to work somewhat in speaker frequency filtering :P. .. should had seen first.
I used to work at agilent. it was the only job I really enjoyed
@DXR13KE Thanks.
Do the turns touch one another or are they insulated
They are insulated. The inductors are made from a special type of wire with a thin layer of insulation
Wow wow wow !! Here is the knowledge that increase adrenaline in my blood. Thanks a lot for sharing.
i wonder what would happen if you stuck a peice of metal in the center of one
while it's running.
magnets will change frequency
A 1:10 I heard "5 million henry inductor" and the first thing that came to my mind was: "Holy shit, with that inductor I could bring Call of Duty's EMP Systems to real life"
Slide a ferrite core into an inductor winding.
0:44 how to see the difference between a ceramic smd cap and this kinds of inductor?
***** A trillion ohms? Hm..doesn't seem right.
I never knew SMDs had that much resistance. Makes me wonder why.
Thx m8
Gotta love the "Boom Box from the 80s"!
top2percent the World waits agog for your awesome pun comment. Somehow you have the capacity to induce such high tension that it hertz.
That's for very large inductors (mega: million).
I wish I could come up with a pun about inductors... Then my comment would be awesome.
Compare the circuit boards at 0:17 and 0:39 - Modern PCB's are so bland, lacking character and colour.
My name is Henry :D
Hello there Mr. Inductance
40e for a shitty meter? dode on ebay u can have it for 13e
I know kung fu!!
In short, Henry measured the strength of the magnetic field?
If i connect a big coil and a diode to my arduino will the tone() command sound different?
Slide a ferrite core into an inductor winding.
