I just got this recently myself but I haven't watched it yet. I like how easy it is to open Arrow releases like you showed. I've seen video's where people are opening it with a knife and I just feel like shouting 'No, don't do that.' Lol
Speaking about witchcraft, there's a really good horror films involving witches that came out last year called The Witch. I saw it once at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, New York during their Halloween marathon night and I saw it again in the theaters because I was so impressed with it. I very rarely see a film more than once in a theater, even if I really like it a lot. It's coming out on blu ray not this Tuesday, but I believe the following Tuesday. I think I will try and pick it up. I remember film projectors when I was a little kid. When I got to be close to a teenager, that's when VHS hit the scene. I remember in the days before that, my father would take my brother and me to the art museum where you saw old films for free. I remember watching films when they were shown on TV and not having something like VHS when you could watch it when you wanted to. I remember a few people I knew at the time had laser disc players. How times have changed!
Hey Dean! Arrow seems to be getting bigger and bigger. I see more and more blu-tubers collecting arrow. Mark of the Devil sounds really familiar I never seen it but my moms husband is really into old classics im sure he was talking about it lol. Holy crap a lot of special features that's always a plus with the classic l like to learn as much as can about film back then. Really coll edition
Hey thanks Dr.Movie91...this movie is cult-like for me. It was one that I'd heard about and it always was this mysterious movie that was X rated and taboo. It's really not all that bad, but it'll still make squeamish people squirm in their seats.
I've had that Arrow release for a while now. Great print and extras. If you've seen my Defending letter M video you can hear the unique story I tell of seeing it in a porn theater back when i was a kid (double billed with the original Night of the Living Dead). The film had stayed with me (haunted actually) until I finally got this Arrow release (which is finally fully uncut). So many horrific images fried into my young mind from back then. I also still have (framed) the original 'vomit bag' that they gave out at the theater. Great music score also. Great pickup!
Yes, I remember this movie. I went to see it when it first came out, although I don't recall the year. For some reason 1972 seems right, but I'm not sure. I remember that it was a bloody mess. Sorry, but torture just isn't my thing! Can't imagine ever wanting to see it again, but I have to admit that it qualifies as a legitimate guilty pleasure! The packaging looks first rate and I can't believe all the extra features. Wait......wasn't there a scene where a girl's tongue gets ripped out? Oh yes, it's all coming back to me now. And I thought I had successfully blocked it out. Thanks, Dean..........!
It wasn't just The Vatican in Europe who were burning witches. Puritans also did it right here in the good old U.S. of A. One thing that's always struck ME about this flick is how it's such a sick savage hideous horrible movie yet it has this really pretty musical score - THAT gives it a kind of strange quality I find. You mentioned the distributor Hallmark - they put out allot of those horror flicks that were kind of extreme and more adult oriented in their day like Last House On The Left and Tombs of the Blind Dead in addition to THIS flick. Ever seen the COMEDIC take on the "witch hunter" theme called Love At Stake ( 1987 )?
Hey DeanofDVD! Yeah, when you talk about this film, it makes me think of Salo. Granted it involves Italian fascists, but, if you have watched it, some of the characters in it are put through extreme torture and degradation. As a matter of fact, the film is banned in many countries to this day and I think even copies were confiscated in Cincinatti at one point. I found it very hard to watch and I'm not sure if I can sit through it again. I think you have the film in your collection.
I do own Salo, but I haven't brought myself to watch it yet. I've heard it said that it's a Pasolini masterpiece and is misunderstood...but I'm not so sure.

I just recall the, for me, now legendary stories of this movie and how titillating the stories were.

By the way Dean, shortly before Salo was released, Pasolini died, I think probably murdered, but the case was never investigated.
