Something I noticed is the triangle things on his arms could be considered show accurate to since ultra Magnus and sentinel prime has them in the show, making me thing there could be an “in universe” explanation for it
That cab was actually a really nice variation on the classic OP transformation. (Yeah, I pulled that term out of my ass, but if the G1 Prime transformation is classic - i.e. arms make side of cab, abs are grill, hips fold under/behind, head folds in behind chestpiece - , then "new" in this case means "adhering to the common advancements in engineering in the current scheme for OP transformation." You know, things like the abs being a false grill, or the robot mode chestpiece not being the front windows, OR the most common advancement, adding a hip rotation step into the leg transformation so that details from the front of the leg are exposed.) I really liked seeing the later waist pieces unfold while pinning the compacted arm assembly in place. Yes, LAOP _is_ a bit overchunky for a toy from the show that introduced not-chunky Cybertronians to people, but I am starting to appreciate engineering for its own sake rather than in service to bot or alt modes. TBH, it's about the only way I could appreciate the Bumblebee Movie Concept Art Megatron. He has spectacular engineering I want to see adapted all over the place, but his alt modes are just piles of cyberjank. I know he's too cool to hide from fleshies, but his tank mode is no more armored than his robot mode and his flight mode can't actually work as an aircraft.
I hope Legacy makes other characters from animated. We already got 3 Autobots. But how about some Decepticons like Lugnut, Slipstream, Blitzwing, Starscream, Lockdown, Megatron.
I wish the Prime figures got that kinda treatment instead of what we got cuz they're more G1 than Prime based, and this Animated Optimus actually looks like... Animated Optimus
You seem to have the same issue with the waist peg as I had, I trimmed mine down a little to make the turn smoother without it unpegging. I just adore the cabin that even includes seats
Damn, how do people get this so soon? Edit: So I have had this figure for a while now, and I just got a gap filler kit for it. Overall, this is easily my favorite optimus prime figure. The joints are a bit weak for my liking, but this is only really a problem when he's holding his axe. The transformation is tons of fun, and I love the proportions on this figure. I'm now wishing we got season 4 of Transformers animated, because I'm sure the upgrades optimus was supposed to get would make for an excellent figure.
Your opening saying about tf toys being for kids made me realise something odd. Idk why Mainline rotb toys are seen more in public markets and shops than Legacy. I feel Legacy is way better for kids than Mainline ROTB
It seems like most of your criticism is that it's not "an accurate representation of the Aminated figure." It's not trying to be; it IS supposed to be a stylized version if the character. If anything, it's not stylized enough like a Legacy "G1-ified" figure for me. If you want a show figure of anything Animated, just stick with the Amimated figures; they're all pretty spot on. I have a voyager Aminated Optimus; it's great, but I don't want another one. As you said, this gigure's truck rear looks awful. It looks pretty good otherwise for what it is. Robot mode is where it shines. Alt mode looks like they couldn't make up their minds as to whether they wanted more of Animated or G1, and it looks a bit haphazard as a result.
it's a bad representation because the proprtions are terrible, it's not really 'stylized' just a chibby kidfied version of original. Pointless release. The only reason for buying this maybe is u don't have original, cus they are all just worse versions of the past figures.
How about this? DON'T call it "animated optimus" or present it as the very same animated optimus from years ago if it's not going to be 100% faithful to how the design actually is. It's like saying you'll give people rid 2001 optimus and he looks like a fusion between 01 and armada optimus. Saying "just stick to the original animated figures" isn't a good argument when those figures are not cheap nowadays. If studio series can give us updated/new versions of classic figures that are meant to be more accurate than how they were before, then legacy was capable of doing the same with animated and prime designs. Only reason hasbro gave these stylized designs a simplistic look is purely because they likely couldn't replicate the designs like they did years ago.
@Kaiju-bm4ts Well, in all fairness, the name "Animated Optimus Prime" just describes what universe in the TF multiverse it's from, especially since Legacy's aim is to do just that. I don't think the aim of this figure is trying to be a 1:1 representation of the Animated counterpart like a Studio Series figure would more attempt to do. I do think Hasbro should have leaned into the stylization much more. Regardless, I still really like the figure and glad i got one :)
@@superquad7 And if that's the intent then legacy should of done a better job at modernizing these designs from animated/prime if they're meant to be characters from that specific universe. They did so well with armada so why they had to give stylized designs a g1 simplistic look screams "we couldn't replicate these designs like we did years ago so we went the simpler route" I don't expect the figures to be a 1:1 representation of the actual design (cause this ain't a third party company with black magic here) but I also expect the figures to be close enough in design simultaneously with some effort put into them. We see this many times with SS and we seen this within legacy regarding the armada designs. So the fact hasbro felt the need to give these stylized designs a hint of unnecessary g1 flare doesn't tell me they tried to make the designs accurate. On their own, they're not bad figures of course but as representations of these specific incarnations of these characters, they missed the mark.
Luckily for me I wasn’t even born when animated figures released so I can’t be nostalgia bated I’m still buying it though because I love the series even though it wasn’t made for my generation
Motormaster looks better because a younger optimus should have thinner thighs. With Motormasters, the legacy-fication filter works on Motormaster because its noticable how different optimus is. We know what Optimus should look like. Motormaster might have been drawn that way if he was in the show
Honestly, I've seen far worst Redesigns/Reimaginings, (hi Bionicle G2, you suck), the inly one i would consider the worst in Bulkhead due to how blocky he was, lacking some rounded parts to his design
The Art Style of Animated isn't meant to look better than anything, just unique. Which is what the show was, unique and peak transformers cut short by the brand unifying hack that Prime was.
thanks but no thanks i hate it its ugly with a big fat U i hated transformers animated it sucked. all i ever wanted at the time was more of armada, energon and cybertron i wanted more of that because it was better much better. but no they gave us all of that crap and it p***ed me off transformers animated sucked it was for 3 to 5 year old in 2007 when in 2007 i was 17 years old. thank goodness the movies came and saved the franchise because animated almost killed it. and it almost happened again because of r.i.d 2015 and earth spark i am sick and tired of them making crap for little kids that doesn't appeal to us adults. let the little kids lay with their cocomelons or whatever s**t kids play with these days. the transformers should be for teenagers to adults and for 3 to 5 year olds.
What Transformers Animated is amazing it's one of my favorite Transformers series growing up in the 2000s i was 7 in 2007 and i didn't saw the first live action movie in the cinema but on dvd in 2008 and i didn't saw the 2nd live action movie in the cinema either but i saw it on dvd in 2010 but i saw the 3rd live action movie in the cinema in 3D in 2011. Ps a lot of my classmates liked Transformers Animated back in 2007 because in the 2000s kids were kids not like today kids that think that they are adults and have smartphones and kids of today don't watch cartoons anymore or play with toys anymore ps fun facts: if there was a 4th season of Transformers Animated was going to be inspired by the 2007 live action movie that's means that every character was going to have their Transformers 2007 inspired paint schemes.👌🏻🤨 Transformers Animated, Transformers Prime>>>>> every other Transformers series.😁
Ya'll I wrote, filmed and edited this all in one day 💀💀
i have watch 27 vids☠️☠️
Holy moly that’s so fast

Great work!

The arms Transformmation Is show accurate i Like that dectail.
Animated was my first introduction to Transformers and I loved it and still do.
Good to know that DNA is now making an upgrade kit for this Prime.
I still got my original voyager class animated optimus prime. Compared to the new one, I think they are both great.
I hope Legacy makes other characters from animated. We already got 3 Autobots. But how about some Decepticons like Lugnut, Slipstream, Blitzwing, Starscream, Lockdown, Megatron.
And it never got to appear in the show but I’d love to see a legacy figure of the cancelled triple changer season 4 design for megatron
I wish the Prime figures got that kinda treatment instead of what we got cuz they're more G1 than Prime based, and this Animated Optimus actually looks like... Animated Optimus
so whats the secret 👀
.......clickbait?
Good call on the 3rd party upgrade kit
I miss the OG figures 😔
2:41 bro for real is it's feel naked??? 💀💀
Tbh, this is how I think of if optimus prime (G1) had a son.
You seem to have the same issue with the waist peg as I had, I trimmed mine down a little to make the turn smoother without it unpegging.

The back of the upper arms have the cab seats molded on em

Price and gimmicks? I guess
I used to watch the show when it came on CN back in the day.
Yoo ray gun cameo

this! too many people criticising toys for not doing something they aren't trying to do

New figure owner here, why does he have so many mounting holes that his axe can attach to? Are they for other accessories from other kits?
damn 35$
it's a g1 style Animated Optimus.
Luckily for me I wasn’t even born when animated figures released so I can’t be nostalgia bated I’m still buying it though because I love the series even though it wasn’t made for my generation

490th liker🎉🎉🎉
This is in unpopular opinion but I think animated Optimus prime is overrated and even rid 2001 Optimus prime looks better than animated Optimus prime.
The Art Style of Animated isn't meant to look better than anything, just unique. Which is what the show was, unique and peak transformers cut short by the brand unifying hack that Prime was.
Rid Optimus design is utter garbage
I didn't laugh once from this video.

Transformers animated came out in 2007. Right alongside the first movie. What on Earth are you talking about.
