Evening All Chris here. While I'm working on tomorrows WoW vid with a goofy ass intro, Mike put this first impressions together for the new Island Sanctuary. While he is not the usual type to indulge in these sorts of games/features, he has to admit - it really is something.
At first when Yoshi said there'd be time gates on buildings I was immediate to criticize it, I felt it'd only increase from there, bleed into other aspects of the game, I just had major PTSD to Garrisons in WoD.... I've now realized the time gating is actually a health and safety precaution because this thing is SUPER addicting.
the time gating on it isnt that bad, also rebuilding and replacing certain buildings is INSTANT as long as the initial construction is already finished
Some timegateing is bad for sure, but yes, timegateing can be a good thing. I know some people love to rush through everything in a single day, those are the same people who usually complain there is nothing to do. But yes, insane wait times is stupid, but some is fine.
@@iceman3317 Yeah, I think there's a fine balance, on the one hand you gotta pace the content so the devs actually have time to make more good content, but you also don't want your audience getting bored or sick of the feature.
Absolutely dying at the fact he enjoys the content after he was so sure on stream and in other videos that it wouldn't be for him at all! Never get tired of Preach's "I will never like this...OH NO!" moments! 🤣
This is just another reason I love how there is no data mining months before a patch comes out. Sites would have made the perfect ways to find everything before the game released. Instead ... they release content, and you are on an adventure friend! It's actually amazing and you story here is too!
Honestly, I love FF, but I prefer Wow for the most part, and I DREAM of Wow getting to a point where it can do this much stuff under cover. It really is quite a thing to experience when everyone goes in blind.
Hate to break it to you, but ways to optimize content like islands can be found within a day, especially when you consider that it's not exactly a rocket science and the very existence of workshop incentivizes people to minmax stuff. All the feeling of "chill content" dissipated immediately after unlocking the workshop. Adventure aspects of the island are pretty damn lame too. It's just a new way for you to waste time.
One of the big things that I love about farming games (story of seasons, Stardew valley) is the sense of progression. You typically start with a crap hole farm with debris everywhere, very little money and a shack with a bed. However you harvest your first crop and suddenly you can… buy more seeds or build a coop to have chickens. Constantly progressing, step by step
And with a little more coin you can say, ok i want to plant more crops, or maybe i rather focus on animal products? What if i do a little bit of both for extra profit? Or maybe do something for easy money so i can develop relations with the town? So many ways you can tackle this type of games and that's the beauty for it. You set your own goal and just chill doing what you want to a certain degree (need the coin at the end)
I get that, im addicted to progression in video games, bonus points if i can make what im working on my own, to look at something and say "i did that" no greater feeling in the world

Collaboration on reddit has turned up 3 different types of rares in Island Sanctuary: Time-based, weather-based, and ones that depend on both. Awesome tip fcor the vine farming, the reason they seem to be respawned in that time frame is that they are not on a timer, they are linked to when you harvest an item in that area.
Glad you enjoyed the content Mike, I completely feel the same way with it. It's fun and good casual content. People who are angry about the time gating, are people who have unrealistic expectations for this content.
Hey Preach, people have probably already mentioned it, but the shinies (rare spawns) are actually tied to the weather or Eorzean (ingame) time (or both). There are shinies that spawn on 24 Eorzean hour increments. These spawns last 3 ingame hours. And there are other shinies that spawn in specific weather and ties of day (like morning or night). You can actually enable Eorzean Time on your UI by going into Character Configuration>UI Settings>HUD and about halfway through the tab you will find your clock settings. You have the option of enabling/disabling Local Time, Server Time, and Eorzean TIme.
This rare hunt sounds like my breeding collection in ARK. I'll be out, doing my thing, and I'll see it. A flash, a color, brief though it may be I know I want- nay! NEED that color variation for my dinosaur army. It'll stop me in my tracks. I need to sort out how to acquire it. Do I have bolas? Tranqs? Taming food? Should I build a trap? Can I keep it safe? Will it kill me? It isn't a point of the game, but it does create everything I want in a game. I haven't been able to get to my island yet, as there are so many doing the same. Hopefully there's an underwater or large cave base I can hide away in at some point.
Mike, we found out how the rare coblyn spawns this NA afternoon. And good news the next batch of spawns are perfect for EU time. It's not in one of the blocked off areas like people guessed, but it does have conditions.
The island look’s impressive. It’s another mini game in a large scale, one can imagine how many hours one would spend there besides going to gambling den.
One thing I was worried about was the grind because I absolutely hate it. Instead the time gate stuff of buildings taking a few hours to complete is great to help avoid burning out. I feel so happy for my WOL who is building and adventuring like a maniac. What an amazing gift from Tartaru
I can't believe how much I love meandering about my island. Considering the only farming type game I've ever managed to get through to the end was Stardew Valley. I usually prioritize the story over everything in FFXIV but I haven't managed to leave the island yet. It's impossible, it's just so zen. XD
For the capture mechanic: maybe, I'm the only one but I've learned by playing, that the capture rate should be a 100% as long as you are close enough to the creature and that the the net animation falls exactly on the monster. However, then again, I might be wrong but this is what has worked so far for me
I saw a black chocobo and wanted it so much, but I couldn't get it because I wasn't able to craft restraints for a larger creature. Bummed me out when I couldn't get it, but I managed to the second time I saw it. I really wish there was something you could do to influence catch rate, because I used 15 things to try and get a rare spawn which specifically spawns during cloudy and 9am-12pm and it still ran away at the end.
Before I logged in today, the very first thing on my mind was swinging by the island to make sure my animals were fed and to pick up my cowries from my sold crafts--then I spent a few hours farming after setting up another season of crafts for the 3rd workshop that just finished building. Also, my Granary just finished, so I had to send my mammets out on their first foraging mission, and also complete the construction of my new bathhouse to improve the groove rating of my mammets for a better cowrie haul at the workshop. So... Yeah. I might be a little bit addicted, as well.

Games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley are relaxing. You can veg out and play, which given how stressful and hectic many people's lives are now makes those games very appealing. I don't think It would be a bad idea for SE to make their own game of that nature.
You can queue in it! When you're done with the duty, they have logic to port you back to your island. You can see in the chat log that you actually pop out in Lower La Noscea but then it immediately teleports you (assuming the instance server isn't full) back to where you were on the island, and even remembers what mode you were in. You can even log out and log back into it, unlike personal houses.

after this try and complete and entire pokedex in pokemon of all shinys
Man getting obsessed over catching a weirdly coloured rare animal. I feel like I heard this type of story before.
I didnt even realize there were rares and I've already got the second monument under construction...
Yeah doesn't take too long. The wait time is what gets you. I've already finished my second monument and have 2 workshops and 2 granaries. As well as every expansion I can currently get.
Day 2 I haven't finished my msq yet because damn island is better than expected
Games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley are relaxing. You can veg out and play, which given how stressful and hectic many people's lives are now makes those games very appealing. I don't think It would be a bad idea for SE to make their own game of that nature.
I'm optimizing for crowlies per hour!
Preach became Zenos for a penguin
Same thing happened with me... im not a fan of those type of games but i find myself stuck there enjoying myself way too much
i think island sancturay is for when everyone finally runs out of beast tribe rep to build up XD
THROW WIDE THE GATES SO THAT WE MAY PASSSSS!!
Addicted? Dude, it's been a day.
can you even dungeon queue in this thing? wouldn't it be considered an instance like eureka etc and lock you out of doing something like that?
You can queue in it! When you're done with the duty, they have logic to port you back to your island. You can see in the chat log that you actually pop out in Lower La Noscea but then it immediately teleports you (assuming the instance server isn't full) back to where you were on the island, and even remembers what mode you were in. You can even log out and log back into it, unlike personal houses.
are you planning to dip in dragonflight raiding scene?
Is it like running your farm in WoW? Well, eight years ago, when I played WoW last.
18/20 Bois!!
perfect.
I put in about 6 hours today. I got the black sheep my first go.
Why are you RP walking up to them? You know that doesn't do anything, right?
Honestly forgot you were bald, it feels like an alternate time/mandela effect now haha
I guess you could say you enjoyed your…. Island Expedition?
But did he ever get the red penguin?
Oh new MSQ, New Dungeons, New...wait what's this? Ok Tataru let's go check it...oh. oh no.
Wish I had the money to play this game 😭
