Hey Scott, I really like all your videos, because you keep things simple and succinct, funny and interesting. But, for me anyway, this has to have been the best video yet. Your ability to cut through the noise and explain the heart of the problem is really one of your superpowers.Thank you for another awesome video.
Totally agree, at last someone talking sense when it comes to lighting. I recently attended a workshop hosted by a so-called renowned professional only to be highly disappointed by the fact he made his entire decision process based on what his light meter said… it was really disappointing, he really didn’t understand storytelling and narrative, and was confused when I queried his approach. Thanks for bringing some sense to the Wild West of RUclips lighting videos.. 😂
Thanks! You actually cut to the chase and deliver a superbly clear (and useful) video. I think that the theme is a bit out of your common subjects, but ... could you possible make a video about automotive light setups and shooting?
I agree with this fully. It is actually how I light everything. I do portraits so for me direction of the light/mood of the shot and work backwards. I also have the most random question. I do corporate work, is there a such thing as corporate food photography?
This is such a simple message... smh... of course!! I struggle with how to light a setup... but I never created the narrative that would drive the lighting... smh... it's so OBVIOUS... sigh. Thanks.
Hi Scott @TinHouseStudioUK. I would love to see a lighting setup for your cat, low key moody and a high key fun shot? I'm a pet photographer near Portsmouth just starting out with my studio. Your videos are such a great help to me, I love the no nonsense teaching style of yours please never stop making these videos. :)
Don't struggle with narrative! 😁 The narrative is completely your choice! Unless someone is asking you to create a particular narrative? And you're not sure how to create that particular narrative? Good idea for a video but also there's kind of an endless number of narrative possibilities so he could never cover even 1% of them. But maybe talking about the process of how to take a narrative idea from concept to finished product. That would be sweet.
@@davyboyo Thank You for your comment and my apologies for a late reply. I am assuming (maybe wrong) that there's a universal way (like a common denominator) to build a narrative. I would be expecting a general guidelines. Cheers
Hi Scott, thanks for the 'narrative' advice. Made sense right away. I do not use artificial light but as a (struggling but learning) street photographer and unmindful of what the 'experts' might say, I think I need to give it a go and review. I have a Yongnuo flash unit which could be employed. Challenges being its placement/direction (carry no tripod, no assistant), genre dynamics, & so forth. Please provide some quick advice if you can. Again the "narrative" is key I know. Thanks and keep it going.
I think "Every type (or style) of photography lighting" would be a good title that'd work as well as an informative video for people who want to know every type of light like specular and the other examples you mentioned
Really great video. Quick question - aside from the "Light, Science & Magic" book you've recommended, are there any other books people should check out? I'd like to do a deep dive before I get to any of your workshops. 👍
What would you categorise the light that came from a reflector with a diffuser attached (like your previous video) to it? The reflector would cause specularity but the diffuser makes it diffused...? Is that hard specular or can it be specular and a bit diffused? 😆
you know if anything this video has reminded me I need to replace my skrim pack, kind of lost a couple along the way haha thanks man always fun getting proper decent information
omg going on and on and on about lighting.. just get a new sony camera with the new and improved insert lens here and you won't need all this light mombojambo .. you are welcome!
Check out this workshop if you need some help really understanding professional lighting www.tinhouse-studio.com/product/lighting-101/

I am thankful that I have grown enough in my work to appreciate what you are saying here. Thank you! 🙏🏾

One word, Awesome!

That is well said and thought out.

Would love a video about Narrative
Me too. I struggle with this also a little..
Totally agree with this comment
Having into consideration the quality of this channel, that would be awesome!

Great video that makes perfect sense. Thank you. Any way you could talk more about specular light qualities and the when and how to use it?

Great Video!!!! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Excellent! Thank you!
Next up? Flagging 101 and Developing Narrative?
YESSSSS
👏👏👏
omg... the bald head lighting... I'm bald and never occurred to me to remove light to solve that... sigh... smh...
Can you teach us what lights/lighting from say 1968 you would use to simulate the lighting on the moon? 😂😉
omg going on and on and on about lighting.. just get a new sony camera with the new and improved insert lens here and you won't need all this light mombojambo .. you are welcome!
this is bad advice
Why?
