  • During the wars of the 90s, different clerics of the Serbian Orthodox Church had some nice things to say about the warlords of the time. How to approach this from Christian perspective?

    There is an Irish saying: If 2 neighbours are fighting today it is because one of them was visited by an Englishman yesterday. The militias on all sides of this conflict were infiltrated by foreign actors who encouraged violence and inflamed the passions. The ultimate condemnation is on those from outside the Balkans who desired the break-up of Yugoslavia and did a deal with the devil to make it happen.

    • @clivejungle6999
      @clivejungle6999 19 дней назад

      And the only reason England got involved in Ireland in the first place was because there was already civil strife between Irish factions. Similarly, there was already great divisions within the artificial Yugo state that foreign actors may have exploited but certainly didn't create.

      @@clivejungle6999 I don't know where you are from Mr Clive, but your reading of Irish history does not hold with reality. ALL the tension was created by the British in the fir4st place and I invite you to find evidence to the contrary. It is a trick of Empire to convince everyone they are only there to keep the peace when in fact they caused the trouble in the first place: Ireland, India, Yemen, Palestine ........ the list goes on .....

    It is because in our Orthodox teaching we know that pointing out someone’s flaws won’t make conversion in their heart. We praise our fallen brothers and blow wind at their back for what they do good even when that hurts us. We pray for them and let God do it’s work. Our work is to suffer pray and wait. That’s the essence. And God indeed does miracles. No man can arrange as God arranges. Praise the Lord.❤

    Hello Bojan, excellent stance! We have somewhat of a similar dilemma in Bulgaria.
    In the Second World War, we were on the Axis. Now, our Tsar Boris III was not keen on joining neither the Nazis, nor WW2 in general. Essentially, he stalled joining the war up until the last moment where the Nazis essentially threatened Bulgaria. Bulgaria had been promised in three separate occasions that all Bulgarian people would be united under one country, but this deal had been broken three times and resulted in loss of two wars already for Bulgaria. Boris was unwilling to join yet another war, but when forced, he manage to negotiate with Hitler the best possible deal which would have potentially united all Bulgarians (the truth is Hitler is Hitler, and this was likely a false promise). Although stripped of from occupied territories after the Axis defeat, Turkey ceded some territory to Bulgaria.
    Now, I'm going to speak about Boris in a moment. My point is that, Bulgaria, although had essentially been forced to war, never truly suffered under Hitler. In fact, although the promise is, let's be real, likely false hope, under Hitler, Bulgaria was promised what it had been fighting for over half a century, and nearly succeeded in uniting all Bulgarians. In the end, there wasn't a massive loss for Bulgaria from what we had before the war. In addition, although I'm sure any racist Bulgarians may be unhappy, Bulgaria refused to implement Hitler's anti-Jewish laws (I'll speak about this in a moment too) and was never actually politically fascist, meaning that mainland Bulgaria did very little anything morally incorrect, besides being accused for joining the "evil side". Because of this, many Bulgarians don't hold as such of a negative view of fascism and the Axis, because one can argue Bulgaria prospered during WW2 with very few moral trespasses. Although oviously, NO sane Bulgarian will think Hitler is a good person, Hitler isn't as taboo in Bulgaria as he is in the west, because it can be argued Bulgaria benefited from him. Although I don't believe a thing such as "Orthodox Nazis" exist, because the two terms are contradictory, one can't be both; if such do exist, Bulgaria is a likely breeding ground for that ideology exactly because of this, Bulgaria prospered under Hitler, the Jews weren't killed, Bulgaria was promised what nobody else agreed to give to Bulgaria. Dare I say, one may find such an ideology tempting.
    Now, Tsar Boris III is an interesting figure of himself. Because, he is controversial in North Macedonia and perhaps Serbia as well, but he isn't far off from being a national hero in Bulgaria. My opinion is that Boris is definitely saved. First off, there's the obvious: Boris drove Bulgaria from another national catastrophe, and tried to keep Bulgaria neutral for as long as possible, until he was essentially threatened by Hitler, "join, or see your country and people destroyed"; when Boris did finally join, he managed to negotiate with Hitler a deal long promised to Bulgaria, but broken multiple times for over half a century: that all Bulgarians would be united. By joining the Axis, not only was destruction of Bulgaria and deaths of many Bulgarians spared, but also did Boris manage to spare the lives of many Jews, including Bulgarian Jews, and Jews that emigrated in. Although Bulgaria prides itself with Boris having refused to implement Hitler's anti-Jewish laws and had "saved the Jews", straight up lying to Hitler that Boris "needed them for heavy labour" to save them from concentration camps - this only applies to mainland Bulgaria. In the occupied territories, many including Jews and others, were sent to concentration camps and killed. This remains a controversial topic in North Macedonia. The reality is that, it is sheer luck that Boris managed to save all the Jews in mainland Bulgaria. It wasn't without price either, Boris died under "mysterious circumstances" shortly after a meeting with Hitler during when he discovered Bulgaria was avoiding the anti-Jewish laws. It was virtually impossible that the Jews in the territories of modern North Macedonia would have been saved, considering that they were only de juro owned by Boris, but in reality heavily regulated by the Nazis (N.Macedonia is located conveniently near the centre of the Balkans and is a convenient military corridor, which the Nazis were very keen on only promising it to Bulgaria and not keeping that promise). If Bulgaria had even attempted to counter the Nazis in the occupied territories, not only would the Jews in Macedonia be gone, but the many Jews and innocents that were savable in mainland Bulgaria too. In my humble opinion, Boris is a national hero. Besides all he was a devout Orthodox Christian, and the Patriarch and the Orthodox clergy, which aimed to keep themselves separate from politics, were supportive of Boris, and highly advocated for all attempts to be made to save the Jews. Even the Pope, knowing full well Bulgaria was on the Axis, messaged Boris to keep all efforts to save the Jews. Boris did what he can, and I truly believe he is saved. Only God may decide.
    Be blessed for this video Bojan! ☦✝️🇧🇬❤

    Hello Bojan, I rarely comment on RUclips but recently this exact topic has been bothering me quite a bit and when I saw that you uploaded a video exactly on this topic I was excited to hear your perspective. However, I disagree with you quite a bit. I am a Croat, and have found the Truth in Orthodoxy, my life has completely changed since. However, I would like to provide you with a perspective of a Croatian convert if you don't mind. The Serbian Orthodox Church has endorsed and supported some of the most grusome war criminals of this area in the 90s. And one of the most repulsive things is that even Patriarch Porfirije has been filmed singing Chetnik songs, and had given an interview in front of a picture of Draža Mihajlović. How can anyone defend that? To a Croat, this is obviously a clear sign of animosity and hate. I am repulsed by what my nation has done in the past. And even though I am a Croat, I wouldn't support a Croat war criminal just because he is a Croat. The argument that supporting evil people in times of war is somehow allright because it is war time doesn't hold water. Evil is always evil, and should be condemned as such. The Church supporting its nation no matter what, above God's law, is etnofiletism which is a condemned heresy. How can the Serbian Orthodox Church allow itself to act this way? Who knows how many other Croats have seen the Truth of Orthodoxy but were pushed away due to these things. It just makes me sad. I am not attacking you, or the Serbian people, whom I consider to be brothers and sisters in Christ. However, this is a huge issue, not because someone gets offended, but because only God knows how many people have been kept away from the Truth.
    (Edit: I have found out that Patriarch Porfirije had publicly apologized for singing that Chetnik song; which is certainly a good thing, so God bless him!)
    May God bless you,
    Hristos Voskrese☦

      I completely agree with you. As a Kosovo-Albanian with newly found faith in Christ and the Holy Orthodox Church I face the same dilemma, but even deeper somehow, since albanian orthodox churches in Kosovo were at some point in history "taken over" by serbian people and since then they insist on erasing our history and claiming they were always serbian. It is sad and not in Christ's image.
      Also, last year serbian military forces were trying armed conflict in north of Kosovo, and when they fled, they went to an orthodox monastery right across the border in Serbia 😅😅 How come the monks and priests there still to this day support this?! It puts a shameful look on Orthodoxy...

    My question to those asking questions related to the Serbian nation, is which country do you come from and who are you to judge us?
    With regards to the Serbian Volunteer Guard (so called "Arkan's Tigers") there's an interview from several years ago featuring one of the main officers of this fighting unit, Borislav Pelević, who was a straight shooter, university educated and an exceptionally self disciplined individual. He says it's a total myth and a gutter mass media smear that the Guard was a band of criminals. In fact, the unit was exemplary for its organisational structure and capability in low intensity warfare, during the nineties.
