The programme of Midgardsblot includes tours of the area, battle reenactments, documentary screenings, lectures and panel discussions, as well as a Viking village, a Viking market and a games arena for archery, axe-throwing, and other activities. Blót and blōt or geblōt are terms for "blood sacrifice" in Norse paganism and Anglo-Saxon paganism respectively. A comparanda can also be reconstructed for wider Germanic paganism. A blót could be dedicated to any of the Germanic gods, the spirits of the land, and to ancestors. The sacrifice involved aspects of a sacramental meal or feast.
Looks awsome! Great to see more and more people looking to the old ways. It's like a modern-day Renaissance! Reawaking of the pagans!
You might be right. What is Fenrir meaning in Old Norse? Why is Fenrir depicted as a wolf? Why is Fenrir not depicted as a bear? There are many predators in Scandinavia, bears is one of them, not just wolf, bears too. A bear is a omnivore. A wolf is a carnivore.
Y3ah so well put. New Renaissance ❤
@@nova8091 😂 Nah let the hindus have their faith. Indo-european faith differs from Sanatan Dharma, even tho we have some things in common, we must never replace our ancestors faith with Dharma!
Luckily I'm from Bergen, so its just a couple of hours with train: I was there last summer in 2022. Hands down the best festival experience I've ever had, it was so wholesome, - full of absolutely lovely people. One could buy authentic replicas of viking age jewelries and outfits, bought my first taglharpe there aswell. I even slept under the oak trees at the burial mounds because my tent-neighbors started fucking and the guy went full autist and repeated "wow" for every thrust. I also managed to literally fk both my legs up while i was there. Wouldnt change a thing. And ofc,- Wardruna, Eivør & Heilung absolutely crushed it. Coming back in 2024.
That's awesome wish they had something like that around me
If you have the drive and a bit of funds, you could organize something yourself.
Just need to be passionate and ask others to help.
We went in 2022 and it was absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to go again soon!
This looks great and I find it very heartening. Whenever I see stuff lie this I can't help but think....'why is my country so boring?' LOL
Love your video my friend! Thank you for mentioning me 👍🏻🙏🏻🔥
Man for years I have been wishing and thinking about going to this, but it is expensive when you live in South-eastern Europe and have to pay Norwegian prices. Still, awesome festival and awesome line-up of bands.
You could go as a volunteer.
You get a free whole festival pass, free camping and fed while on shift. You only need to do two eight hour shifts and you can choose which days so you can make sure not to miss your favourite bands.
The volunteers camp is very spacious and right next to the arenas where the bands play so it's really convenient and easy to see nearly everything.
Plus, the people who volunteer are a lovely bunch of people from all over the world and you'll make lot's of new friends to hang with. There's even a volunteer and crew after-party which is legendary!
All you would need to pay for is your flights,(I would recommend buying any booze from duty free at the airport, Norway is expensive!). Other than that you will need to buy food for your non working days. I've done it twice as a broke Brit. It's doable. There's a supermarket a short walk away. You might live mostly on bread and cheese for a few days but it's doable!.
Look on the official Midgardsblot website, there's a section for volunteering. The form to apply come out in the spring around March/April and obviously it's easier to get cheap flights sorted the earlier you book.
Hope this helps. See you next year?
Highly recommend it if you can manage it!
I am extremely interested in the authentic music traditions of the Scandinavian Iron age. In popular culture it’s sometimes portrayed as rather primitive or crude. Or they mix up growling in battle, shamanic chanting and singing of skaldic verses. We don’t have many sources but some archaeology and iconography, which display a plethora of different instruments. We have several tangential sources from the continent too. But looking at the language, the poetry, the spiritual concepts, the craftsmanship, architecture and technology of this culture, it’s seems very likely that their ”art” music would have been exquisite, refined and elaborate. That said, of course they would have loved Metal, I am certain.
This is incredible! My wife, Rune guidance of the Norse, will attend this some day! ❤
Norway, Sweden, and especially Finland have the most metal bands per capita on this planet!
I'd love to go! Goal for next year.
Happy Thanksgiving Homez!!!🦃🦃🦃
So much fun! I hope the food was awesome.
Thanks for the video ⚔️
I just had them orange solos from the Scandi Kitchen, lovely, anyway thanks for another decent vlog.
Black metal without distortion sounds like surf music.
Hello from Seattle, where plenty of Norwegians have settled! I'm interested in this! I'll have to check it out, if it's got a website! What time of year is it usually held? I visited Norway last summer, starting at the Summer Solstice; but never heard about this event. It looks like a really great time... :)
I feel you have covered this in a vid. and, I will go back and look.. I will be assisting with the "Unassisted" Home Delivery of my Granddaughter. What are accurate traditional practices involving the Placenta.??
I'm proud of saying I was there, my first time but surely not the last one. It would have been great to meet you
Looks very nice!
question my friend, have you ever been to the Krampus fest?
wish i could visit some day
Awesome episode man. Is that the town Gaahl (ex-Gorgoroth) is from?
As a pagan, I think I'll might pop up next year 😃
I can't wait to go to Midgardsblot festival at some point. However, it may be several years before I can afford to go. Living in the USA with student debt is quite expensive, so saving money and vacation time is hard to do.
Going in 2024!
How great n unifying❤
I've been wanting to go here for about 2 years now. I wish my country would let me afford to attend such an experience.
I’m new to discord, how do I join your server?
I'm going this year. ill be one of those Americans there!
I want one of the big wooden statues of Freyr for my front yard.
Hell yeah!
I would love so much to be able to go to this :( and I wish I could just check out the land of my ancestors and just live there where I feel I belong
Rock on!
TYR is the best!
Does anybody know about the event that took place at the bonfire
This doesn’t really pertain to the video but I’ve been mulling over this quote from Snorri Sturluson and I was wondering what you guys thought of it. It’s part of his introduction.
“ I wrote this book so that young students of poetry could learn to decipher that which has been composed in subtle manner.”
Does anyone think this is a reference to him having to change things because of the church?
Snorri wrote the King saga, but he was a christian. But he talked with wise men that would never lie. So all of it is of course 100% truth. :-)
@@edelhaug I have no idea what you just said.
Ok, my mind is running wild about what was going on around the bonfire- give us some examples in the comments, please.
I would guess it started off with some yelling and laughing, escalated into topless or nude dancing, and anything after that a gentleman wouldn't speak of my dude.
Perhaps a Völva using her staff to put her in a "trance" giggity

I was there. It was a lot of music, some wild frenzy, a bit of nudity. All around and excellent time
I definitely need to go. Is this festival hosted or backed by grimfrost?
To Norse magic and believe:
Is the physical appearance of a troll in God of War 2018 video game accurate with the troll appearance in Old Norse paganism?

just a thing to do if you can't afford or close enough to do Burning Man!! - and if there are NO tubas they can't call it Heavy metal.
Well, im going to be broke for going 😂 better save up so i can stay there for a week😅🤣
Where are the kids? You can't be a pagan without kids. I hope this change in next years since people recently started to wake up
To Norse magic and belief:
Norse mythology of Norse paganism is to difficult to understand.
Nah, it looks like it's just a ren fair with people doing cosplay, not a true or sincere religious or spiritual festival.
