  • Supercharge your health with lipid control, sugar control and weight loss. Berberine is being called nature's Ozempic. Certainly ozempic and wegovy have their limitations and are making huge profits for big pharma, the side effects are unknown and the rapid weight loss some are seeing is causing ozempic face and hair loss. Just because big pharma did not do a 50 million dollar study does not mean you cannot reap benefits at a fraction of the cost. Are you using it? Please share your thoughs in the comments.

Started 500 mg berberine 9 mo ago. Lost 5 lbs easily. Next step was cutting out diet soda. Lost another 5 lbs. Third step, started metformin and started resistance training 2x week with daily walking. Finally started counting my macros. Increased protein intake and decreased carbs. Total weight loss thus far has been 40 lbs.

I didn’t start out saying I would never have diet soda again. I made a decision to try to reduce diet soda. Give yourself one week, or one day with less soda. That takes the mind games out of it. I added electrolyte powder to my water. Started measuring my water intake. I also replaced sodas with protein shakes. I gave myself a daily water target of 128 oz. If my met my water intake I’d treat myself to a diet Dr.Pepper or cocktail, but I never felt the need. Just being mindful of what I was eating and drinking was a starting point for me.

The satiety effects of the berberine/metformin combo along with increasing my protein has helped me address my eating behaviors and focus on the emotional component to my relationship with food. Getting daily required clean lean protein, good carbs, and healthy fat has given my body what it needs to function optimally while staying in a calorie deficit, so I no longer count calories. I am curious. A lady in the health store set that people are coming in all the time with good reports on berberine helping their diabetes and that it also helped with those big bellies you get from Candida yeast infections. So I inquired again for a second opinion from another lady working there and she said that she had been taking berberine but had to be careful because her blood sugar is dropped a little low. I do not recall if she was diabetic or not. I have a friend who's diabetic and on Metformin and I also have a husband with a beer belly which was the reason I was inquiring and pointed to berberine. Apparently diabetics get does big candida belly yeast infections. And it helps settle the yeast down which is why I was considering it for hubby. I would like more input regarding this. He's not diabetic but maybe I need a glucometer to make sure his blood sugar doesn't crash? His grandmother was diabetic so I want to be sure he is safe

I am taking Berberine. 1g per day in 2 doses (500mg twice, spaced apart). Mainly because I used to have higher blood sugar creeping up to the pre-diabetes zone, and higher blood pressure. Now that has normalized. No side effects that I have noticed. I also lost a bunch of fat, but I attribute that to switching to a low carb diet (keto), since it was way more than 5lbs. More like 45 lbs. At any rate, between Berberine and keto: lost 45 lbs, triglycerides lowered, blood pressure lowered, insulin resistance is gone, and I feel 100% better. Took about 8 months. Still going.

I haven’t tried Berberine yet. Thinking of doing so. I went on Keto during COVID. Over three years, I lost 125 lbs., still need to lose another 125. Due to disabilities, exercise is not really an option.
Then, I moved and lifestyle changed. Plateaued for months, then the weight started creeping back up. Have gained back almost 40 lbs.over the past 2 years. Am hoping Berberine will give me a fresh start and good kickoff.

@@cherylmcnutt9905 Exercise is always an option. No matter how little we start with. Ingesting berberine is only a partial help. We have to move. Just a little. And keep adding to our movement, just a little bit at a time. It can be the smallest amount, and keep going by tiny amounts. I have lived this, so I know. Just do the smallest thing you can do, and then do it again, and again.

I have been taking Berberine with Ceylon Cinnamon/green tea/bitter melon, on and off for 6 mths, more consistently for the past 3 mths. I am post menopausal and have been ‘stuck’ with my weight for years. Just wouldn’t budge, no matter what I did. I have lost about 5-7lbs. I really don’t need to lose a lot but I feel better and more myself. I have a couple of autoimmune issues and I am trying to do everything I can, naturally, to heal my body and reduce inflammation. I definitely feel. This has helped me, my symptoms have decreased. I am careful about my diet, as close to nature as possible but I have always been that way😊

I find it a bit shocking that anyone would take a drug (not berberine) for weight loss when there is intermittent fasting which works for everyone. I don't get hungry anymore and if I get a pang I just chug some lemon water. I lost 40 pounds in 6 months and am back to my size 2. Just make sure your one meal is a complete one (protein rich and lots of varied greens) and take your supplements and collagen. Lots of various teas as well throughout the day as they generally don't break the fast. I blame a lot of weight gain on stretch pants and shorts. It allows a lot of weight creep. (-:

I'm taking it for insulin resistance issues and high cholesterol. But a fantastic unintended benefit is I am now sleeping way better at night on Berberine! I'm able to shut off my brain now - before got 4-5 hours a night, now 6-7 hours a night. A huge change for me! I experience some intestinal gas issues, but well worth the benefits I receive.

Already I'm finding my insulin resistance is better, my cravings are less eventhough my A1C has been good. My bloodpressure has not been good ,even my ADl is good, and my HDL is great. I take losarton, berberine can conflict but I feel better even when I take a water pill the muscle aches associated with that have subsided. I'm keeping a journal, but I am encouraged.

I can't take metformin because it gave me diarrhea. So my doc put me on gliclizide for my type 2. It did not bring my blood sugar down enough so I figured the next step would be insulin. Then I started berberine (500 mg twice a day) and inositol (500 mg once per day) and I quickly lost 5 pounds. No exercising. I am still on gliclizide as well, but because my weight is down and my type 2 diabetes is better managed, the doctor has not started me on any other meds. I will keep using the suppliments for as long as they work!

Really great info and comparisons of Berberine and Ozempic, Wegovy!! 😃
I started taking Berberine once a day before my main meal during the pandemic as I noticed some skin lesions (angular stomatitis) and some acne on top of 6lb wt gain (with a more sedentary lifestyle) and some lower GI issues - all hallmarks of gradual insulin resistance despite no history of diabetes and I've always been slim.
I combined this with intermittent fasting and within 7 wks I lost that weight, my skin became clear, my GI issues vanished. Most of the weight loss was due to IF not Berberine though (I took Berb for 1-2 months before I did IF). Despite my med & science background, I had to resort to the above to get my health under control.
I only noticed side effects from Berberine in the 1st 2 days (ie diarrhea, ab pain) which disappeared. Berberine changes your microbiome and increases Akkermansia (a good bacteria found in slim folks) and will cause purging of your pathogenic bacteria so you will get GI upset initially. It is primarily for lowering insulin, BSL and hyperlipidemia more so than overt weight loss (unlike like Ozempic which is a direct GLP-1 receptor agonist vs Berberine which just helps stimulate GLP-1 secretion via various pathways). I believe it is better than Metformin and Ozempic/Wegovy due to less side effects and may have a role in longevity due to AMPK activation.
Anyway Thanks for all your info and I love the fact you cover such diverse topics Dr Rajani! 🥰

In general people use a bioavailable form 1 - 2 x a day. Please do not exceed about 1g per day if using the bioavailable forms as too much can cause liver damage. Berberine works great, but if you really NEED it. People who eat a healthy diet and zero added sugar (and who also limit their carbs with high GI) should rather be careful with it. I just wanted to try it, because of all that hype with longevity-related benefits. Even though it's natural, not synthetic like metformin, it gave me hypoglycemia (fast heart beat, trembling, dizziness, anxiety). Once I stopped taking it, the side effects stopped as well.

All of the great benefits from dieting, no more inflammation, and losing 23 lbs before I added berberine feel like it's reversing back. I'll take a break from berberine and pay attention to effects & side effects.

Doc, I take 500 mgs twice a day. Funny, but today, I did poop three times and it wasn’t due to anything I ate yesterday. I started to take it when I read that it helps lower LDL cholesterol. Thought I’d take it throughout the summer and then have my blood levels checked again at the beginning of September. I hope I see a reduction as I do not want to take a statin. I am pretty active with Muay Thai, Yoga and lifting weights. I cannot say I have noticed any marked changes in my energy level as a result. I have lost weight, about 10 pounds, but I also started HRT around the same time, so not sure which to attribute my weight loss to? Anyway, I enjoy Berberine thus far and have had no adverse effects. Hope you are doing well and thanks for this video.

Also, notice my bowels are a bit more active, but nothing uncomfortable or troublesome. If I will wait a few weeks before I increase the dosage, if I ever do, to allow my body to acclimate.

I must live under a rock because I hadn’t heard of this. But this morning I ordered a couple bottles of Berberine, 500mg per capsule, and plan to take one 2x daily. The universal answer to a healthy and long life is: *PREVENTION!*
    Regular exercise.
    Healthy low-fat and low-sugar diet.
    No alcohol.
    No cigs and other drugs.
    A positive attitude.
    Good friends.
    Get enough sleep
These are the *BASICS* for a long and healthy life.
Under these conditions, supplements can work like the icing on the cake.💫
A great tip for everyone regarding berberine, but also longevity.
Do your research: DR. DAVID SINCLAIR!
You will definitely not regret it!
    Before i forget:
I take berberine before bed because it makes you tired, but for very good and logical reasons!
Anyway, my sleep has improved a lot.
Also my complexion and other things.
I have to admit that I eat extremely well and treat my body with respect and love.🥰
That will also be a reason why friends told me that i look younger.
Well, discipline and patience are the keys to success.❤

I'm taking berberine for 6 months now combined with potassium to regulate bloodpressure. I am on HRT due to a radical hysterectomy in Januari this year. Because I take it in pillform it goes through the liver and it had interaction with my angiotensine enzyme II and my aldosteron. Both are responsible for vascular widening and contriction. I had too much constriction due to HRT which resulted in high bloodpressure. I dove into it. I began using berberine once a day with a potassium supplement and heightened the dose to twice a day of both ( 1000mg of berberine) and my bloodpressure came down smoothtly. I am in the safe zone now. It works! :-D Doctor Rajani. What is your opinion on S acetyl- L gluthathione?

Dr. Anil Rajani , I wanted to discuss a recent observation regarding my supplementation regimen, specifically with Thorne Berberine, and seek your professional advice.
Currently, I am taking Thorne Berberine alongside my other supplements, including cod liver oil pills, magnesium, sea moss pills, and B12, as part of an effort to lower my cholesterol levels. While I have been maintaining a healthy diet, I've noticed a change in the color of my stool since starting the Thorne Berberine. My stool appears green, which is concerning to me. Interestingly, I skipped taking the Berberine on Sunday, and my stool seemed to return to its kind of its normal brown color. I am on a 10 days green juice diet while taking it...
After some research, I understand that stool color can vary based on the speed at which it moves through the digestive tract, with darker green hues indicating a faster transit time. However, I am uncertain if this change in stool color is a cause for concern or if it necessitates the addition of a probiotic to my supplement regimen.
I am eager to continue effectively managing my cholesterol levels and would greatly appreciate your guidance on whether I should incorporate a probiotic into my routine.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your expert advice

I was just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I am 70 years old and am trying to lose weight. I am not diabetic. I hesitated to take Berberine. I have just started taking it three days ago. I take 500 mg every day. I worried that I may have side effects because I am not a diabetic. Could you let me know if I would be causing more health problems by taking Bererine rather than just weight loss? Thank you.

I just started taking supplements from Puritans Pride and wasn't sure about that company but they have good prices. If I could afford it I would only buy from Life Extension company. I do buy they Life Extension Mix for basic nutrition but supplement with extra supplements (C, D, magnesium, etc.) if I need them and they are all sorts of companies

I'm taking it because LH Covid has messed up all of my systems (blood sugar, nervous system, cardio, brain..) I typically only take 1 500 mg with dinner (I do not need to lose weight). No side effects & won't know about A1C for a few months, as I had labs done rt when I started it.

In your experience, what you've heard from others, do the GI side effects from berberine tend to go away over time? I have helped my mother, whose A1c was 11 (while on high dose of metformin) 2 years ago, drop to 6.5 (with 1/3 the dose of metformin she was taking) by following a whole food plant-based diet with no oil. This coupled with doing water aerobics everyday and stationary bike at home in the evening with a yoga series I designed for her has got her these results. However, her A1c is stuck at 6.5 and I am confident that if she could lose her remaining belly fat that her A1c would drop to normal (non-diabetic) range. So in addition to now trying to motivate her to dieting for 3 months to achieve a slight caloric deficit, I am considering suggesting berberine to her. Anyway, have you seen the berberine GI side effects generally go away over time? Thanks.

I've been taking Berberine (Thorne is the brand, purchased on Amazon) for about a week now. No side effects, but I also have not seen any weight loss. I started taking it because I've self diagnosed myself as insulin resistant. Figured I'd give it a try along with some lifestyle changes to see if I can fix myself. I take 2 capsuled in the morning and 2 in the evening, both times about a half hour before I eat.

I had no changes in weight for the first 2 months.
Now, in month 3, I have started losing weight…. So far I’m down 4 lbs.
More importantly, I’m becoming more fit I noticed my pants are fitting better my clothes feel better they’re all loose, so I guess I’m losing fat composition

I’m post menopausal and also taking Berberine. I have some insulin resistance and was almost pre diabetic but after 6 weeks of using the Berberine, eating a very low carb, meat heavy diet I’ve lost 5 lb with another 5 to go. Hopefully the last 5 lbs will come off the SPARE TIRE 😅

My 85 year old father who has had type 2 diabetes for about 20 years has been on Ozempic since 2020. He has severe gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting & intermittent constipation) and has lost too much weight. Unusual for type 2 diabetic but he was already underweight (despite a high sugar, high trans fat diet) and is now emaciated. He's losing his hair for the first time, has become anemic, and has lost muscle. He always looked much, much younger than his biological age but this drug has aged him decades in only 3 years. Worst of all, it hasn't improved his blood sugar levels. He's also on Metformin, statins and a few other heart drugs. Is there an alternative to Ozempic? I don't think it's doing him any good but his doctor keeps prescribing it. I realise at 85 it's amazing he's still alive, however, I'm starting to wonder whether Ozempic is going to shorten rather than extend his life.

I think you really need to insist that he comes off that drug, you have a right to be concerned. There are several other alternatives along with metformin to keep his blood sugar down. My 80 year old friend with type 2 is on metformin but also if his blood sugar is on the high side, he gets 14 units of insulin at night. Easy for himself or anyone to administer.

As a woman who has struggled with PCOS and the low blood sugar events, cystic ovaries, pre-cancers, etc., for four decades, spent time on Glucophage until it almost killed me, and switched to DIM, glutathione, and Berberine in 2016, here are my observations: Berberine is well-tolerated and it DID lower my blood pressure about 10 points top and bottom. But, zero weight loss and I have no clue what my blood looks like currently, but it’s almost always been good.
I still have low blood calcium and hormonal palpitations around menstruation and cysts IF I don’t take coral calcium and mangosteen pericarp powder!!

Did you actually take fenfluramine? I've noticed many people call phentermine phen phen but phen phen actually refers to two medications, phentermine and fenfluramine. Phentermine is an appetite supressant, it works and is safe. The other medication is fenfluramine, brand name pondimin, which keeps seratonin levels high & helps with depression but it isn't safe. DO NOT TAKE FENFLURAMINE! It causes primary pulmonary hypertension & heart damage. I took the phen phen combination, fenfluramen & phentermine to lose 10 pounds years ago. I began having chest pain & looked up the side affects of both these meds & discovered the dangers of fefluramine. I stopped taking it immediately but it was too late. Fenfluramine caused enlargement of my heart. I sued and only got $35,000-I'd rather have a normal heart.
