The guy looks so intimidating and seems like he has such prestige, which he does, but you hear him talk and he's so humble, not superfluous at all. Nice guy.
Because the REAL greats know the many many painful hours of practice that go into being as good as they are, it’s usually the hacks with the worst egos in my experience
"It starts off with a good ol' G minor 2nd Inversion Appegio with a lil' Triad turn-around, and then goes to root (lol) with another lil' triplet on the top, and then it goes into a G minor scale, Harmonic minor, down to the 6-chord, then a 5-of-5, a one 1st Inversion, and a 5-chord to end..." HOW THE HELL DOES HE REMEMBER ALL THIS?!? LET ALONE PLAY IT WITHOUT LOOKING?!? -_-
This has kind of a Star Wars type of feel to the chord progression. Like when the movies are switching from one scene to another. It reminds me me of that.
now i know marty friedman was awesome but i think this guy is the best guitarist megadeth has ever had because of his style versatility. plus he mimics all of the old megadeth solos perfectly
@warewolfguy genrally speaking, a neopolitan chord is a minor chord with a raised 3rd, making it a dominant 7th chord that can then tonicize the 1 chord.
most of the time when a shredding guitarist shows how to play a riff, it doesnt really help. This guy explains the crazy shred in a way i can actually understand! I wont be learning the riff anytime soon, but i can understand it now. Thanks Chris!
to be THIS good, you need: extreme talent, extreme passion, and decades of playing and active learning behind you. without any of the ingredients, you can only get "good". maybe even "very good" within a genre or two. today, more than before, due to a number of factors (mostly to do with technology and information), it is getting easier to get good at playing almost any instrument. but mastery is still achieved only by just a few.
Also, for those of you out there. If you have time to dislike videos, how about you practice and appreciate the fact that these guitarists took their time to share their skills with us to inspire and give us more ideas on making better music
Snehal Negative yes! chris is one one of the cleanest players out there technique-wise, the problem is his tone, i used to use so much distortion that my muting hand when tapping creates noise because it grazes the strings and with too much distortion, Chris's tone here is like melted assholes
He is a good player for sure. I just dont know why I do not like his style of playing. I think he plays a little to fast even for his skill level and It just sound noisy and incomplete.
v03dan you're right. His playing in this video is a bit messy. Listen to Andy James. He has some of the cleanest playing I have ever heard on a shredder.
@soulguitarist2511 it means the III chord is played as an augmented chord. if your playing music in harmonic minor, i'll use A harmonic minor for example. A-B-C-D-E-F-G#-A. as opposed to the regular natural minor, with a G natural. the III chord, built on C, would be major, C-E-G. however, the G is changed to G#. the G# would typically be provided by playing the V chord, as a major chord. in A, its E major, E-G#-B. but it is acceptable to play the III chord as an augmented chord. C-E-G#.
it's an axe fx. He's either using it as a preamp and running it into the poweramp of the engl, or he's using it like a multi fx unit and running the engl normally
And I listen to it so damn often because it intrigues me I understand the theory to a point but it's correct somehow for my mind the melody keys and sometimes the speed
@blackblurable As far as I know, Mustaine forced Chris to use the same Marshall JVM410s as he uses. But at some point Chris only used Axe-FX Ultra units for live shows.
damn! how do you keep the other 5 strings from making noise with the palm? It makes noise when the palm is not on it ..and a different noise when I move my palm on it as the right hand moves between strings!
A chord is built up of intervals. The first ( root) the third ( the note that says it is minor or major) (and the fifth) Like a c major chord is CEG. The root (C) the major third ( E) and the fifth (G) Now, the 2nd inversion is then you play a chord where the fifth is the deepest note and not highest. The 2nd inversion of c major is ( G C E) I i remember correctly.
THIS GUY IS SICK WOOOWW DAMN THATS TO HARD, ACTUALLY I'M 19 AND TO DAY IT'S THE FIRST DAY I THINK I'M NOTHING ON THE GUITAR, MY RESPECT FOR THESE GUY IS INCREDIBLE
@konerak9 Absolutely! Having a great teacher in private makes a huge difference, especially if it were Chris. He does do private lessons over the Web for $35 for a half hour but because touring he has stopped for now.
It never ceases to amaze me how the shred stuff sounds so much better when they dial it back a notch. Some of it just seems to be for music nerds who are interested in dissecting it for the sake of understanding theory.
The guy looks so intimidating and seems like he has such prestige, which he does, but you hear him talk and he's so humble, not superfluous at all. Nice guy.
7 years later, I hope you know what superfluous means now.
Because the REAL greats know the many many painful hours of practice that go into being as good as they are, it’s usually the hacks with the worst egos in my experience
>Superfluous
Inigo...

1:56 "Im gonna show you how the first half of that is played." With a smile on his lips saying: "But you wont be able to play the whole thing anyway"
Lmaooo
this guy has the most musical shredding I've heard yet
I love this man. I love everything he does and is. He must not die.
chris i think has all the package, not only he is amazing on the guitar but his looks with the guitar hanging around him, you'd know he is what he is.
it sounds like metal piano
that's what he wants it to sound like!
Lmao sure
so clean the sound.. sooooo crazily good
This has kind of a Star Wars type of feel to the chord progression. Like when the movies are switching from one scene to another. It reminds me me of that.
Nah
now i know marty friedman was awesome but i think this guy is the best guitarist megadeth has ever had because of his style versatility. plus he mimics all of the old megadeth solos perfectly
He should make some classical music songs on the guitar. Or make a solo album
@warewolfguy genrally speaking, a neopolitan chord is a minor chord with a raised 3rd, making it a dominant 7th chord that can then tonicize the 1 chord.
he is the perfect example of why all rock guitar players need to learn music theory.
most of the time when a shredding guitarist shows how to play a riff, it doesnt really help. This guy explains the crazy shred in a way i can actually understand! I wont be learning the riff anytime soon, but i can understand it now. Thanks Chris!
Imagine how many hours he had ot put in to get to do that over the years. Stupendous.
chris broderick and jeff loomis are like a prove of what mankind can do best.
it sounds like beethoven's moonlight sonata 3rd movement
Yeah, insane!
the sound at 1:20 .. just amazing
I Just gone out and bought a ukelele. I know my place.
😂😂😂

That's funny, the camera didn't explode...
Also, for those of you out there. If you have time to dislike videos, how about you practice and appreciate the fact that these guitarists took their time to share their skills with us to inspire and give us more ideas on making better music
the fact that his guitar doesnt have fret marks makes it even more confusing
Lmao
He may be the most modest guitar virtuoso on the plant...Chris Broderick for life!
i'm never touching my guitar again
DAM THE TAPPING PART IS INSANE LOVE THE DIMISHED AUGMENTED TONALITY DONT HEAR TOO OFTEN
i've ever thought he is a one of the greatest guitarist!
Piano is a great way not just for getting inspirations for soloing but also riffing
I remember when I was once this good...
Then, reality hit me.
Awesome two-handed tapping!\m/and really cool arpeggios!\m/
"Now I'm gonna show you how that first half is played"
We can learn that?!
@Tharladyn yeah, it's an ENGL and he is using a Fractal Audio Axe/Fx with it
Not bashing Marty but Chris is in a different league...
it depends of your musical taste. Nintendo playin sound full no sense arpegios or good melodic solo composition
Yes Chris is in a lower league.
@@tonypowell250 This is what happens when music is made into a competition.
You can do arpeggios however you want right as long as the notes of the chord are being used
Ah, my arch nemesis the G minor 2nd inversion arpeggio. We meet again.
@MrAndy24deth It's actually an Ibanez 1527 - 7 string with Bare Knuckle pickups in the bridge and neck position.
Tony MacAlpine would be proud.
Excellent !! my friend. Great work!! Thumbs up of course. G.
Please someone get him a string dampener.
george gill its just the tone, not his muting technique
^yea?
Snehal Negative yes! chris is one one of the cleanest players out there technique-wise, the problem is his tone, i used to use so much distortion that my muting hand when tapping creates noise because it grazes the strings and with too much distortion, Chris's tone here is like melted assholes
@JelloFluoride He is using is own custom Ibanez seven stringed RGA with DiMarzio D Activator X Pickups; if I'm not mistaken.
Obviously fake. His guitar doesn't even have the right number of strings.
You sir, are quite stupid
kade snyder
Nope, this whole thing is photoshopped. The reflections are wrong, too. Check Snopes.
Devon Berman
seems legit
It's a trained guitar
its real!hes plays for megadeth!!!!!!!!!!you who play for????????????
Not only is he a guitar god, he's also a comedian @ 4:55. Wish he was my dad.
.......................I am scum
He explains things so well. Just gotta point that out
his ibanez is better than his jackson...........but seriously, ever heard of a fret wrap?????
You realize this was posted 9 years ago?
by far the most technical and diverse guitar player ever
He is a good player for sure. I just dont know why I do not like his style of playing. I think he plays a little to fast even for his skill level and It just sound noisy and incomplete.
hes famous!what the fuck are you doing, working at burger king?
mark henson You're getting pretty upset over some of these comments lol. It's just an opinion.
v03dan you're right. His playing in this video is a bit messy. Listen to Andy James. He has some of the cleanest playing I have ever heard on a shredder.
Insane guitar playing broken down slowly into single notes, nice!
he plays classical guitar amazing
@zwingler It's the Jackson Soloist Chris Broderick signature model. You can probably find it on Jacksons website.
i dont know why but this inspired me to spend more time on practice
@stringslayer97 It's a LACS (los angeles custom shop) model. It's the Ibanez custom shop for endorsees only. Sadly, he's a Jackson player now.
that's exactly what I was thinking. But I think it fits the style. It sounds really clean to me.
@soulguitarist2511 it means the III chord is played as an augmented chord. if your playing music in harmonic minor, i'll use A harmonic minor for example. @Tarkess but u can clearly see that its a ibanez ( look the top of the neck )
he is a talented musician. just because he has muscles doesnt mean he is also a talented athlete(with all respect to chris)!
@RaphaelSBS as far as I remember it was his Ibanez Custom 7 string guitar (RGA), I guess the last one he got before switching to Jackson.
@Trevaland there is a guitar pro tab at UG.
@Alcoholica a pick clip that lets me use any pick I want and can be adjusted to any length I want
@ 1:13 I listened.. and rewinded..and rewinded. That blew my mind
it's an axe fx. He's either using it as a preamp and running it into the poweramp of the engl, or he's using it like a multi fx unit and running the engl normally
@klogg4 I have JP's liquifire as a neck pick up and when it comes to legate plying or tapping, I feel more conformable switching to the neck.
you are SO GREAT. I think that a lot of people should know a little more who is CHRIS BRODERIICK
And I listen to it so damn often because it intrigues me I understand the theory to a point but it's correct somehow for my mind the melody keys and sometimes the speed
@blackblurable As far as I know, Mustaine forced Chris to use the same Marshall JVM410s as he uses. But at some point Chris only used Axe-FX Ultra units for live shows.
dont usually like this style but this was amazing
pure neo-classical OMG! That was LEGENDARY!
damn! how do you keep the other 5 strings from making noise with the palm? It makes noise when the palm is not on it ..and a different noise when I move my palm on it as the right hand moves between strings!

I want Chris Broderick solo album!!!
@000sicair they did is called nevermore from 2001-2003....
He is using an Axe-FX Ultra! Some tasty equipment there :)
Don't say how he makes you feel bad. I mean I am nowhere near as good as he is but it inspires me, it doesn't put me down
@Spitty33 I'm a little lost too. what are those last chords he plays around 2:30?
this gave me a shiver!
ive never heard any body explain things like chris, he knows as much theory as 10 music novels combine
This guy is like the genetic blueprint for the human race, I can't think of a person who's more perfect than him.
When he started playing, my computer froze. It was too badass for it to handle.
@AJJMPguitarSolos99 It's his Ibanez RGA seven-string signature.
@Megadedly Why do you say that? Cause I like the way Broderick plays?
I still wanna know where I can get a pick clip like his
@greatxssassin1 You should check out some of Broderick's Concertos for the Triangle.
Fantastic Virtuose !!! Parabens !!!
The future of guitar playing.
one of the most awesome ibanez ever !
@ThePakino I agree, those pick ups blow for soloing but for rythem they're not bad.
I can't even beleive someone could even dislike this. It's Amazing! Man, I hate people!
Wow this short piece is good really good maybe even great wow very good
is it the ENGL the AXE FX or his kickass Ibanez that makes it have so much sustain???
@konerak9 Absolutely! Having a great teacher in private makes a huge difference, especially if it were Chris. He does do private lessons over the Web for $35 for a half hour but because touring he has stopped for now.
It never ceases to amaze me how the shred stuff sounds so much better when they dial it back a notch. Some of it just seems to be for music nerds who are interested in dissecting it for the sake of understanding theory.
how does he stop the other strings from vibrating?
Sounds like bucket brooo y'all are both timeless
@punkstrat101 Not everything musical has a certain rhythm or time signature. That's why it's a guitar solo
what was the first chord he mentioned? a neapolitan chord? did i hear right?
The first part of the sweep sounds like the beginning sweep of psalms of lydia. But other than that, amazing.
Where can you get those picks he is using?
FUCK. That tapping sequence over the diminished seventh chord sounded AMAZING T_T.
Can you imagine Broderick jamming with John 5? Men I hope that dream comes true one day..
