Thor, the reason why Mae didn’t kill Sol before is because she changed her mind, and later in the ship she changed her mind again. That’s her whole deal: she is a faithful servant to The Plot.

The writer are just so sloppily writing around logic instead of writing it. It's so annoying. Things are lacking any logic because the plot is being pushed over it.

@@zelha5528 hehe, I learned of an interesting theory that Osha and Mae are so connected through the Force (because of the circumstances of their conception) they might be inadvertently influencing each other's thoughts and actions. Someone went as far as to say that Osha has the ability of Battle Meditation but doesn't know it. I think it's interesting but it still doesn't excuse the show's constant contrivances and just awful writing in general.

She is walking the boundary. Jedi and Sith are vying for the twins who can be swayed both sides, each of them being pulled in a different direction, depending on what context they are in. As long as they are separated. And this is the plot.

Mae is a no one. Her motivations shift every scene. I love my sister. I hate my sister. I will kill Sol. I will let him live and deceive him. I will turn myself into the Jedi. I will run away from the Jedi.
Also how come Sol has been thinking what he would say to Mae if he ever saw her again when he was sure she was dead?
All the facts keep shifting, and not in a good intriguing way which makes you question which is true and which is false, but in a way where the writers need certain things to be the case for one scene and so they are, and then they need things to be another way for the next scene and so they are.

I agree with most of what you said. But I think Sol thinking "what would I say to Mae if I ever got the chance to speak to her in a civil manner." Is perfectly acceptable. It's a well documented trait for people to think "how could I have handled that?" Or "man, if I had a chance to redo that conversation then here is how I would do things." I still cant believe that, all these years later, people still somehow like The Last Jedi. Even the biggest prequel fans will say Attack of the Clones isnt perfect and its plot is convoluted. Yet, asking sequel fans to admit the same about TLJ, is an impossible task

    • @neutronstarpilot4393
      @neutronstarpilot4393 2 месяца назад +1

There are arguments against TLJ but there are arguments in favour of the film too
It's about your own personal enjoyment and what you take away from a film, for a long time there was a backlash against the prequels
And some fans said no to the noise and embraced what they enjoyed,
People attribute that to time passing, additional lore and story helped with a researgence in the popularity of the prequels.
A similar situation could occur with the sequel films.

I would happily engage in a discussion on my reasons though.
But I find it goes both ways, you will get people who say "you're too stupid to understand it"
      And that's not helpful
      But you also get
"It's terrible no redeeming qualities, it ruined Star Wars"
      Again not helpful.

Its things like cutting away from the scene constantly, dragging out body movements, slowing down conversations. Switching perspectives from one pair of characters on a ship to another pair on a planet and resetting both scenes. These all contribute to a "filler" feeling. The problem is you witness the passage of time as you watch because of the style in directing and the unimmersive story.

Thor, you hit on something in your previous videos about how there is an undercurrent within this whole series of the pleasure seeking of the dark side, or the prevalence of devil-may-care acts of violence or sex and motives of revenge. What a sad undercurrent in which to launch a story about the High Republic. Contrast the world building of The Acolyte with that of Middle-Earth in The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, arguably the greatest fantasy movie of all time, it's first 16 minutes starting with three separate narrators, one by an elvish woman named Galadriel who gave us a highly engaging, sweeping Longview of the last age, then a much more focused narrative by Bilbo Baggins of the Shire, and then a much more brief lead-in by Frodo Baggins, letting Gandalf know about Bilbo. Wholesomeness, overwhelming wholesomeness, was the undercurrent running underneath that entire movie, and that could have been what this time of "High Peace" in the Star Wars galaxy could have been about. Oh the opportunities missed with this series! Do the creators really believe that they will, in any way, further their careers with this modern day show that can only vape on the hyperspace trail of what has gone before rather than keep up with any of those projects in any way? All of the events within The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, starting with the 3 narratives, culminates flawlessly in an unforgettable riveting chase scene about 1 hour and 20 minutes into the movie in which you are enraptured and cannot look away, hoping beyond hope that Frodo makes it, even though you've read the books every even year since your tenth birthday.. The Acolyte will be forgotten in history, but The Lord Of The Rings won't.

I'm suspecting that Qimir is not looking for a friend or simply one apprentice/acolyte, but when he mentions something about 'the power of two' as something he was looking for, we are thinking he meant the Sith Rule of Two -- master and apprentice. But what if he is searching for a "Force Dyad" like Rey and Ben had in the sequels. Qimir may know Mae and Osha are a Dyad and wants to manipulate them to help him.

Even Dooku explicitly saying the Sith are in charge of the Republic doesn't tip them off
George lucas was interested in how democracy falls in to fascism and complacency is a big part,
There are good individual Jedi still on the path connected to the will of the force but the Order as an institution has wandered too far from the original purpose of the Jedi.

*Episode 7:* flashbacks - what did Sol and Co do wrong 16 years ago?
*Episode 8:* Qimir turns Osha bad, Sol reconciles with Mae & confesses to the High Council
→ Vernestra uses the momentum to blame all the Jedi deaths on Khofar + Mae's training & her killing spree on Sol (he gets "The Wrong Jedi"-ed)
→ Sol is gotten rid of either by Vernestra/the Council or Osha
⇒ Ki-Adi-Mundi's line still holds up, as a fallen Jedi is believed to have been responsible
*Post credit scene:* Vernestra gets rid of Qimir because he's causing too much of a stir (he gets "The Lawless"-ed, like Maul & Savage by Sidious), revealing that she used to be his master
Vernestra is the Sith Apprentice, who made her Jedi Padawan Qimir her Sith Assassin/Acolyte, until she got rid of him
→ that's how he got the lightwhip-shaped scar on his back
⇒ he lost everything: first his family in the Jedi Order when turning to the dark side & then his prospects of becoming a Sith/strong in the dark side
→ he made his own way (possibly founding the Knights of Ren)
Vernestra Rwoh covered everything up back then when her Padawan Qimir "died/went missing" & now she's doing the same
PS: She might've been involved with the Witches of Brendok 16 years ago, which is why her former apprentice Qimir got interested in Mae, Osha & the power of two

But then there's the nepotism of showrunner Leslie Headland who cast her Wife in not just one but TWO separate roles in this series, so there's that too.
I dunno, maybe Harwood is actually playing Finn's great grandfather who it turns out works as a Janitor back at the Jedi Temple, And Osha & Mae eventually do "FUUSION!!!" and come together morphing into one "Being" and that's who Leslie's wifey ends up playing, and they take out EVERYONE - *The End* 🤷

I don't think Vernestra is a Sith, simply because that would imply the Jedi are blameless for all her mistakes, and I don't think that's what the writers are after. They seem to be trying to paint the Jedi as oppressive, incompetent, and politically obsessed; and Vernestra is a perfect vessel for that narrative. If they make Vernestra a dark-sider, she just becomes a scapegoat, and the Jedi are justified again.
Instead, I think what they're going with is Qimir was Vernestra's apprentice in the Jedi Order. Then he started using the dark side. Vernestra fought him (also a reference to TLJ), used her lightsaber-whip to leave that asymmetric scar, and presumed him dead. Now that she's seeing all these Jedi killed by a lightsaber, she realizes it's probably him, but doesn't want to say anything because she's to blame.
In the end, Qimir will have just been a fallen Jedi, and because Mae was his apprentice, the Jedi won't believe there are any other related dark-side users. Thus, they can maintain the narrative that the Sith are "extinct" because the only dark-sider they encountered was a former Jedi, acting entirely on his own. Main-character Sol gets to stay alive, and Vernestra will just be an incompetent and controlling Jedi master, serving as a representation of the Jedi as a whole.
Imo, the reason the writing is so bad, is because they had a specific narrative they wanted to convey, but they prioritized that narrative above everything else - including character motivations and world-building. Characters keep doing things that don't make sense because "the plot" needs them to. And if that's the case, I think Qimir being just a fallen Jedi is the only possible ending, because that's they only way the writers can maintain the narrative they seem to be after.

Mae makes absolutely no sense. She goes from wanting to kill Jedi, to wanting to turn herself in then less than 5 minutes later she again wants to kill Jedi. No one knows what Mae wants, not even Mae. We went from some semblance of a decent episode last week to this. It makes no sense, it breaks canon and now they want to include objectifying men. Can we at least have it both ways if you're going to do it one way?
This show just keeps stepping on its own feet and continually keeps tripping. The fact that Sol doesn't recognize his former Padawan is just lazy writing. Between this and Mae not even knowing what she's doing is ridiculous.
Thanks for the content and insight. I always like hearing your ideas and thoughts.
The last thing is 'Unknown Planet'. What is the point of this? Do they think they're being clever? If it's unknown why bother label it? I'd assume they didn't label it for a reason, but the fact that it's says unknown planet is absolutely stupid. Why does Disney constantly feel the need to try to spoon-feed us exposition?
The Sith just wanting a friend is just like saying a mass deleter deserves to teach people their skill because they want a friend. Evil is evil, being misunderstood isn't Evil's fault, ITS THEM BEING EVIL!!!

One thing I appreciate about the Acolyte is that its a masterclass in bad writing and plot structure. It can serve as a great example of what to do and not to do. For example, the "tension" between the Jedi and Senate could and should have been setup in Episode 1. Maybe a Jedi wants to investigate something but Senators point out they are overstepping or maybe we see the aftermath of a Senate meeting where a Jedi had to explain their actions and the Senate or whoever agrees they were right to do what they did but we as an audience get the sense the Senate isn't happy about this.
Then you could have another scene maybe Master Squid Game went to investigate the murder of Master Trinity and the green Jedi master gave permission without discussing it with the council or anything. Master Squid Game could use his Jedi mind reading at the murder scene but then the Senate calls another meeting to put him on trial for doing that and investigating murders without being the police. This could also cover why Master Squid Game was allowed to go investigate the second death but then had to return to Corrusant before the third death.
Another example that would also improve the fight between Mae and Trinity is if one of Mae's daggers were the same material as the Smilo Ren's helmet. Then when she throws a knife at Trinity, she throws two. One being the special knife and the other a normal knife. Trinity blocks but the special knife deactivates the lightsaber and then the normal knife impales her. Better way for her to die and also sets up what the helmet will do. The witnesses could even say what happened which would startle the Jedi and stuff. I can't remember where I heard this idea from, but I didn't come up with it.
Basically setup and pay-off. We would be constantly seeing the Jedi doing what they think is right but going above the law. And the Senate getting increasingly more agitated with the Jedi. Then the stupid plot of WE CAN'T TELL THE SENATE OR THE COUNCIL could make more sense. (It's still stupid).

If it has a regular Light saber mode, I guess it would be a pretty neat weapon, but if it only is a 'light whip', that has to be the stupidest weapon a Jedi could use. It would be useless at close range against someone with a regular light saber. Of course you'd have to get close enough to her to get into range, but if it doesn't have a regular light saber mode, then in close quarters or tight spaces, that weapon would be absolutely useless. It couldn't wrap around something like Indiana Jones' whip as it would slice right through most things. And how does the energy field generated flex around like a whip? How would you go about assembling that? To me it seems like a really silly gimmicky weapon, unless it can be used as a regular light saber.

She can toggle off whip mode and use it like a normal saber

    • @neutronstarpilot4393
      @neutronstarpilot4393 2 месяца назад +1

@LumVaughan like mentioned you can switch between modes, regular lightsaber and lightwhip.
For how it works, in a technobable way the containment field around the blade is what is 'flexible' it extends out past the usual parameters a Jedi would set for a blade
And the field makes real time adjustments as the blade follows it trying to complete it's looped plasma circuit, giving the appearance of a flexible light whip
I told you there would be technobable
But that's sort of how it works in universe.
It can be useful, but it's also a dangerous weapon, for obvious reasons without adequate training. And not very popular given a somewhat limited application.
It was more popular during the Sith wars for fending off multiple opponents, and is probably more a ceremonial weapon or function in the High Republic era.

@@alexmuenster2102 I would say yes, it's still a lightsaber blade, one of it's drawbacks is reduced cutting power,
For walls and blast doors ect
But a reduced cutting power lightsaber is still orders of magnitude better than any saw you've ever seen.
Put it this way I would not recommend you stand in it's way, or you'd be beside yourself.
It's probably way more difficult, but it would deflect blaster bolts.

I know it's a stretch, but I can imagine them explaining away all the character discontinuities by having had the witch coven tamper with their minds: through possession. Mae's split personality & Sol's emotionalism could be explained in that way. Sol seems to be treating Mae as Clan Mother Aniseya would. I figure they must have a reason for this level of rampant incongruity?
So are they being 'too clever by far,' or just plain stupid writers?
Hard even to decide which is worse.

I think both of the twins are trying to understand each other better through their last teachers/Master/Mentors.
Also, I suspect is trying to reconnect to force fully in through the lightside, probably because she knows if Qimir can’t turn her Darth biceps will be back and she will need to be able to defend herself with more than harsh language. Wouldn’t surprise me if she purifies his saber crystals before the series ends to defend herself.

Hey Thor! Thanks for the run down. Let's go on a magical imagination journey and use some of the things from this series.
    1. Drop the twins and just use Osha.
    2. Keep the dark past and something terrible in her childhood. She fails and either leaves or is jedi mind tricked into leaving the order.
    3. We can still have the 4 jedi, and one goes down in an epic fight. (We dont see who the killer is), but it's clearly a force user.
    4. Qimir kiddnaps osha while the murders are happening and tries to pin it on the ex padawan (while secretly bringing her to the darkside for training (connecting the dark past)
    5. Sol and Jakki are ordered to track down this dark side user.
    6. Another jedi is murdered and Sol links this to the event that happened in the past and tries to track down Osha... who at this time is being corrupted.
    7. Dive into the good of this episode...
    8. Have the Kofar combat at the end, and reveal Osha has been manipulated and misled. The dark side user still kills everyone but is betrayed by Osha and is slain.
There is a potentially good show here, but the execution and "way" the story is being told and atrocious, and we could have gotten so much more. Just some food for thought! Thanks for fighting the good fight!

    18:30 "I was once a Jedi!"
    "Really?! Who was your master?"
When someone says something suspicious or ambivalent - like they're deliberately trying to be vague - you don't "play along" with an equally vague or meaningless statement like "I've never heard of you" - which can, after all, be easily deflected with another vague statement like "It was VERY long ago." Instead, you immediately cut to the chase and follow up with something that can't be so easily deflected. Something definite and concrete. Or even something deceptive like, "That's right! I remember hearing the story about a Jedi who quit the order - a VERY long time ago. His master was - what was the name again? It's on the tip of my tongue!"

The biggest problem with the Acolyte is that it's like someone wrote a few really cool ideas on a piece of notebook paper then handed it over to their intern to fill in the blanks.
Just so many little easy continuity things that are so poorly done.
As far as Qimir, I don't think he's looking for companionship. To me he seems to be an apprentice looking for help and a shortcut to overthrowing their master.

I think the twins are mirrors of each other in the episode. Mae is on the dark side and Sol wants to draw her towards the light. Osha is on the light side and Qimir wants to draw her towards the dark. Mae (who just wants revenge according to Qimir) is deciding if she will try to kill Sol or not, and when. Osha is contemplating killing Qimir. It's possible Sol knew it was Mae the entire time but was taking the opportunity to try to reach her while she's impersonating her sister. This mirrors how Qimir knows Osha's identity. Sol then is lying to Mae so that he can tell her the truth, while Qimir is telling Osha the truth so he can lie to her (as ultimately the light side is truthful and the dark side is dishonest). Qimir doesn't try to tie Osha up, presents himself as at her mercy, and says she is free to go - ultimately so he can bind her to him and the dark side. Sol restrains Mae and will not let her go to force her to listen to him - ultimately to free her of corruption that came from misconceptions.
I think when it comes down to it both Osha and Mae are conflicted people because of what happened when the were children with the witches - it's just the show hasn't told the audience everything about what happened to them which makes it difficult to understand them in the present. Although I think the show needed a bit better character building.
I think it's true Mae wants revenge. She's angry at the Jedi who came to the coven, she blames them for losing everything. But when she realized her sister was alive she started to hope that maybe they could start over together. But then Osha rejected her, and meanwhile Qimir is trying to kill her for turning on him, so all she has left is to go with Sol. And she's ambivalent about killing him - perhaps the warmth he shows her while treating her like Osha confuses her because it doesn't match how she sees the Jedi. Osha is confused by Qimir as well because he has made himself vulnerable to her, not tried to hurt her, offered her freedom, and provided nourishment. It doesn't compute with his violence from before.
I think the temptation offered by both Sol to Mae and Qimir to Osha is the opportunity to heal by reaching the part of themselves they have buried.

I suspect Sol knew Qimir would take Osha, and when Mae attempted to contact Qimir, which he also expected, he tracked the destination of the transmission. Sol likely suspects that only He and the twins could potentially bring Qimir back alive or he may end up tapping into the darkside to kill him and/or have Vanestra clean it up at the end.
The fundamental problem with there being a scad of Sith (Venestra is probably not a Sith) is that in the end the Sith still have to be hidden before the Prequels. There’s going to be some twist that puts everything back to business as usual.
Initially I thought they would drop it all on Sol, but even that would be problematic.
That red dust (maybe spice?) will somehow have compromised the force abilities of the Jedi and that cheap trick will be used to rationalize away Qimir killing all those people. Qimir may escape, but that will probably be when Tenebrous shows up to tracking him down and kill him.

  • @StefSis

Of course Sol knew it was Mae all along. He even asks her about what happened to Osha because he cares. But Sol doesn't want to make the same mistake again that he did on the witches' planets so he's rushing to Corruscant so that he will be able to let the Jedi Counsil in the know this time. And he is going to hand in Mae as evidence. He saw everyone in his team slaughtered so he's not gonna give the dark side user the chance to kill him and leave every stone untouched. It all makes perfectly sense.

The other thing I find interesting which no one is talking about or theorizing about is how Qimir says he was trained as a Jedi a long long time ago. He's so young looking but i wonder if hes actually really old and has somehow found a fountain of youth on that planet he's hiding in. That spring he bathes in, perhaps?
Vernestra is apparently 100+ years old in this show? Her species ages slowly.
So, if Qimir is actually a geriatric, I wonder how that ties in with Sol ("you seem very familiar") from episode 5?
