Just awesome!

HAHA at 15:31 where the guy said you are awesome, we were there by the train, we heard him yell it. We were riding Route 66 back to Cali. It was October 8th, We had just finish a good meal and was walking it of when we past the zipline and stopped by the train. Unfortunately we were on foot and couldn't meet up with you. Stay safe.

Been to a few of those towns. Will actually be doing some of that route with my son on bikes in 2022, you guys are really helping out with the planning! We’ll be going from California to Ohio
Damn that Route 66 drinking game can really take its toll. But on a serious note, I'm wondering what settings you use for shooting the videos? I've been told by a professional photographer that I only need to use 2.7k @24 fps because it looks more realistic. But I'm not sure he's taking into consideration highway speeds. Do you shoot 4k @30 fps? Or do you go to 60 fps?
Haha it sure can, we tapped out by the 15 minute mark!😂 We have a mixed setup. On a majority of our cameras, we shoot in 4k 30fps on automatic, so the ISO and shutter speed will compensate for various lighting conditions. These settings also work best with the stabilization in the GoPros to keep the footage as smooth as possible. While it results in some awesome footage, you are correct in saying the 24FPS results in a more realistic look. Josh has his GoPro set up on manual exposure and shutter speed while shooting in 4k at 24FPS., so we have some different looks. The frame rate is half of the equation when it comes to realistic footage. Typically, it is ideal to have your shutter speed double your frame rate. ie if you're shooting at 24 frames, your shutter speed should be at 1/48 or 1/50th of second, which results in some great motion blur that mimics what the eye sees naturally. (Same goes for 1/120th of a second at 60FPS, but the motion blur is not as pronounced) The only issue is that when the shutter speed is that low (and doesn't compensate automatically), images can come out very bright, so using ND filters helps with that. The stabilization is not as pronounced either, but some shake here and there also gives some depth to the footage and adds another aspect to that natural look. So if you're shooting in 24p, just make sure your shutter speed is locked at those numbers and to make sure that your sweet footage isn't coming out too bright. It just takes some experimenting! Hope that helps, thanks for the question and support! (p.s) it looks even better at highway speeds 🤘🏼
You should have stopped at the El Ranchero alot of movie stars would stay there while they were making movies. Errol Flynn and John Wayne rode their horses to the bar inside. Bob Hope and many more stay there as well.
Next time you are in Williams try the new sandwich shop. Gateway Sandwich Co. Great place for lunch and dinner. It is run by a husband and wife and their kids. As you know, great food anywhere in town. The group I use to ride with in California had a motto.... "Ride to eat, Eat to Ride". Keep up the good work. Great video.

Nice thanks for sharing, I just got back from a 4 day trip from Southern Cal to El Paso, met my buddy from Houston there stayed over in Las Cruses to have dinner on Saturday night and headed back Sunday. Good timing it went from 87 on Sunday in Las Cruses to 33 on Monday. I rode the route through Albuquerque in August when I met the same guy on the way to Sturgis. Beautiful ride.

Was just in Flagstaff, Arizona last week on vacation. I did Rt. 66 from Seligman to Winslow. The Road Kill Cafe, had a great lunch there! Williams, Arizona the Grand Canyon Brewing Co., also great food and beer.

In my younger days I had a dyna and I put a windshield and saddlebags on it and toured all over the west on it! These days I'm not sure I'm that tough? My hats off to Josh is it? Keeping up with you guys just fine! I'm on my second Road Glide and it's just like Galens!

Good Vid of another Day on the Road! U guys gotta stay at the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup. The movie stars would stay there when filming the old western movies in Gallup area. It's hey day was prolly in the 40's and 50's and 60's. Great restaurant inside too. The Hotel is similar to the Dow in Lone Pine but much bigger. Ride On !!!
Not sure, but it sounds like there's intermittent closures here and there along the way. We're going to do it again from start to finish in a couple years and plan on seeing a handful of the things we missed from the first trip👍

You guys would be PERFECT at running tour groups where you bring folks on some of your favorite rides. I’m from the northeast and would love to get away over the winter for a riding vacation. I’m not rich but money spent on riding is money well spent!
Tha El Ranchero has a lot of history. You should stop in and check it out sometime. Many Hollywood stars stayed there when filming out on the desert and Monument Valley.
Live in northern California, did that ride a couple of years ago stayed in Kayenta & did the monument valley, didn't realize that Kayenta is Navajo nation, no alcohol until panguitch
Great ride.. I did this with a buddy in 2013 (Started in Chicago). I spent 2 weeks meticulously mapping out the route in the old "Streets and Trips" program. I still have the (9) .GPX files I used for my Garmin GPS.
Between Williams and Kingman there is a harley dealer on the south side of hw 40 take old 66 about 2 miles east and a film location for the movie easy rider is on the north side of old 66...the " no vacancies " hotel in the movie
Freakin' awesome rides you two! Just a feedback, the audio for your voices are pretty LOW when you are off the bike talking towards the camera (placed 4-5 feet away). "See ya' down the road!"
On the handhelds, we just use the internal mic or the media mod which can be a little better for talking off the bike but doesn't make much of a difference while riding. Helmet cams are mic'd up 👍🏼
Love this video part of my bucket list is to go to Albuquerque next year during the ballon festival and ride while I’m out there if possible for my 50 th birthday gift to my self .
That would be awesome! It's a must see. We were actually in Albuquerque during the festival, but it was shut down this year so we only saw a couple balloons in the air. Hopefully back to normal by your birthday 🤘🏼

Man..sound like you hit up all the best spots! The roads between Seligman and Hackberry (and beyond) are some of our favorite spots to ride. So much cool scenery to see out there! We recently found out about the Roadkill Cafe, and it's one of our new favorites. The same goes for West Side Lilo's. So many hidden gems out there and the best way to find 'em is to just RIDE! We ate breakfast at the Road Kill Cafe early March of this year on the way home to Ohio from California. Delicious. Stayed at the motel next door. I believe both are owned by the same family.

We try to hit as much as we can. Sometimes with our schedule it doesn’t allow us to talk or see all attractions. But it’s a good reason to go back. Gaylin is a bit of a steam engine geek, got it from his dad. His favorite is the 4-8-8-4 Big Boy! He grew up in SLC where they had a few parks with old Steam Engines you could climb into and day dream. He also had a neighbor Grant Murdock who worked for UP and would bring him Engineer hats from time to time. Thanks for the comment and bringing back memories for Gaylin.
@@2LaneLife the one there gos to the grand canyon you can buy your ticket to stay at the lodge and have dinner and return the next day , engine doesn't run in winter . great Route 66 segment I live in SO CAL have ridden many of those roads over my yrs. as a HD jocky .

We used the Route 66 Navigation App. Overall, we were very impressed. It did a good job with updates on road closures and live navigation. There was only one instance where it missed a road closure, but that's all a part of the adventure anyway. We got the paid version, and feel like it was worth it. Pretty cool to have info on all of the stops along the route. Just a heads up, if you decide to bypass certain attractions, or take a detour, the map will likely keep trying to route you back to that attraction for a couple turns lol. Good Vid of another Day on the Road! U guys gotta stay at the El Rancho Hotel in Gallup. The movie stars would stay there when filming the old western movies in Gallup area. It's hey day was prolly in the 40's and 50's and 60's. Great restaurant inside too. The Hotel is similar to the Dow in Lone Pine but much bigger. Ride On !!!

Seeing as this is 3yo, wonder if, and why, 66 was closed at the AZ/NM border?? You guys shoulda gone to see the Painted Desert Trading Post.....
Not sure, but it sounds like there's intermittent closures here and there along the way. We're going to do it again from start to finish in a couple years and plan on seeing a handful of the things we missed from the first trip👍

You guys would be PERFECT at running tour groups where you bring folks on some of your favorite rides. I’m from the northeast and would love to get away over the winter for a riding vacation. I’m not rich but money spent on riding is money well spent!

I think a lot of the routes were blocked off that had access to the reservations. They were all locked down in New Mexico.
Yup, thats a good point. We ran into some of those issues during the ride to Four Corners Raly recently.

Tha El Ranchero has a lot of history. You should stop in and check it out sometime. Many Hollywood stars stayed there when filming out on the desert and Monument Valley.

Live in northern California, did that ride a couple of years ago stayed in Kayenta & did the monument valley, didn't realize that Kayenta is Navajo nation, no alcohol until panguitch
Yup! Gotta wait until panguitch for a cold one! it's a great run through there though. Monument valley is one of our favorite spots to run through 👍🏼
Great ride.. I did this with a buddy in 2013 (Started in Chicago). I spent 2 weeks meticulously mapping out the route in the old "Streets and Trips" program. I still have the (9) .GPX files I used for my Garmin GPS.

Between Williams and Kingman there is a harley dealer on the south side of hw 40 take old 66 about 2 miles east and a film location for the movie easy rider is on the north side of old 66...the " no vacancies " hotel in the movie

Freakin' awesome rides you two! Just a feedback, the audio for your voices are pretty LOW when you are off the bike talking towards the camera (placed 4-5 feet away). "See ya' down the road!"

Overall, it was a pretty solid app and had a live map which made it pretty convenient
Are you guys using an external mic on the handheld gopro footage, or just the internal mic?
On the handhelds, we just use the internal mic or the media mod which can be a little better for talking off the bike but doesn't make much of a difference while riding. Helmet cams are mic'd up 👍🏼

Love this video part of my bucket list is to go to Albuquerque next year during the ballon festival and ride while I’m out there if possible for my 50 th birthday gift to my self .
That would be awesome! It's a must see. We were actually in Albuquerque during the festival, but it was shut down this year so we only saw a couple balloons in the air. Hopefully back to normal by your birthday 🤘🏼

We used the Route 66 Ap as it was hard finding quality maps. The Ap worked pretty darn well.

Brand new to the channel and enjoyed the video, we were just there! Did Kingman to Hackberry (my favorite) to Seligman. Stayed over at the historic Route 66 Motel, then to Ash Fork and Prescott. Road Kill Cafe menu was hilarious, West Side Lilo's was awesome for breakfast. Looking forward to hitting up Winslow in a few weeks. Stay safe!
Man..sound like you hit up all the best spots! The roads between Seligman and Hackberry (and beyond) are some of our favorite spots to ride. So much cool scenery to see out there! We recently found out about the Roadkill Cafe, and it's one of our new favorites. The same goes for West Side Lilo's. So many hidden gems out there and the best way to find 'em is to just RIDE! Winslow should be a good time too!

We ate breakfast at the Road Kill Cafe early March of this year on the way home to Ohio from California. Delicious. Stayed at the motel next door. I believe both are owned by the same family.
Awesome! We enjoyed it too. And yes the family that owns the Road Kill also owns the Motel and a couple of other business’s in town.
My wife and I did Route 66 solo from Chicago to Santa Monica in 2018. What a ride! We plan on doing it again the other direction. Thanks so much for your amazing videos. Ride on, ride safe!

you guys didnt hit on the main theam in town the steam engine and depot.
We try to hit as much as we can. Sometimes with our schedule it doesn’t allow us to talk or see all attractions. But it’s a good reason to go back. Gaylin is a bit of a steam engine geek, got it from his dad. His favorite is the 4-8-8-4 Big Boy! He grew up in SLC where they had a few parks with old Steam Engines you could climb into and day dream. He also had a neighbor Grant Murdock who worked for UP and would bring him Engineer hats from time to time. Thanks for the comment and bringing back memories for Gaylin.
@@2LaneLife the one there gos to the grand canyon you can buy your ticket to stay at the lodge and have dinner and return the next day , engine doesn't run in winter . great Route 66 segment I live in SO CAL have ridden many of those roads over my yrs. as a HD jocky .

One thing for certain, as much as I like Route 66, the pavement is much smoother and more comfortable on a Softail on Interstate 40 than Route 66.

What is the name of the app you were using?
We used the Route 66 Navigation App. Overall, we were very impressed. It did a good job with updates on road closures and live navigation. There was only one instance where it missed a road closure, but that's all a part of the adventure anyway.
We got the paid version, and feel like it was worth it. Pretty cool to have info on all of the stops along the route. Just a heads up, if you decide to bypass certain attractions, or take a detour, the map will likely keep trying to route you back to that attraction for a couple turns lol.
