When I saw you reacted to this bts, i clicked right away because when Moira explained the design of her logo at the end of the Paubaya video, I immediately remembered how Wale and Efra noticed it (and take note: no other reactor ever did). So, I was thinking of tagging Wale and Efra to watch it just to let them know Moi answered their debate on the meaning of the changing “season”.
Wow, this goes to show that these siblings understood artistry to the core -they understood Moira’s concept right away. Good job to you both.

You’re right, it is rare to get a glimpse of a songwriter’s mindset when and for what reason the wrote a particular song. Listening to Moira’s voice as she talks about the background of the MV and the song is so hypnotizing. Her voice is so calm and soothing. Too bad the poem she recited towards the end was in Tagalog, it’s such a beautiful poem. Thank you for watching and reacting to this BTS with us. It gets you, and us, closer to the creative minds of the artist.
If they put on the closed captions, it gets translated quite well actually.

I was amazed that Josh and Julia didn't have a script at the end of the song and they were both allowed to speak what was in their hearts, everyone left the set except the camera man and I think the director . Amazing.
Its the Taglish phenomenon in primarily Manila. Provinces have their counterparts in their own dialects.
In the simplest way to explain it: Filipinos are taught both English and Tagalog (Filipino) in school (and a local dialect is generally spoken at home, for non-Tagalaogs).
Depending on one’s background and frequency of usage/exposure, proficiency on both languages vary. Some people are more comfortable with the other.
Example: provincials are, initially, more comfortable with English than Tagalog, but need to speak Tagalog when in Manila when speaking with locals. It would be very uncomfortable speaking in pure English with a local, but at the same time, one can express a word or phrase or sentence in English rather than Tagalog. So the mishmash unconsciously happens without even thinking about it. That’s because we know the person/s spoken to will easily understand both languages.
There is no rules or grammar syntax (there will never be). Just speak in a manner which one is most comfortable.
Basically, it’s mainly Tagalog and its syntax, but insert the word or phrase or even sentence you are most comfortable with without thinking about it.
That’s Taglish 😎
To tell you the truth, at least in the Manila area, no one speaks in pure Tagalog or pure English (unless foreigner) anymore
Of course, Manila has 12 million population and more in the day.
and if we Filipinos think about it. we are also incorporating Spanish in there too. i.e. uno dos tres etc tec.
Dialects? Maybe you’re referring to actual languages like Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Ilocano, etc.? Some people in the Philippines (the wealthy and elite) actually speak pure English particularly kids who are educated in international schools.
Yup, because theres some tagalog words that dont have the exact english translation, vice versa with engilsh to tagalog.
Apart from Spanish and English, the Filipino language also has influences from Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Arab. I think the entire country speaks hybrid in varying degrees, not just the cities. If we met an ancestor from the 1500s, we would probably have a hard time understanding him if he spoke pure olden time Filipino. He would not understand all our slang and borrowed words that we incorporated in the last 500 years.
Luv' your bluish-green eyeshadow you had, Wale...you look gorgeous! Truly admire Moira's artistry; she's just super talented and her songwriting really cool as every song has deep meaning. This behind-the-scene making of this video "Paubaya" was just great perfection. Lots of kudos to the director and to the efficient acting from young actors Julia and Josh (former reel and former real-life loveteam).
That’s Taglish. Communication gets more complicated in the province where we have our own languages and we’re speaking to someone from Manila, for example, in Tagalog. Then there’s a word/thought/situation in Ilonggo or Bisaya and we say that because it doesn’t translate smoothly into Tagalog. Then we have to explain it in English. 😏 It’s just how we think.
Then you factor in the people that can do that in Chinese or Spanish, Tagalog, a dialect, and English. Yeah. That’s the Philippines for you.

I grew up speaking Ilocano at home. Filipino & English was always on TV & radio and in school. So we spoke all 3 languages seamlessly used even in just one sentence. Conversations using Taglish & whatever language spoken at home is totally normal & effortless.
normally Filipinos speak taglish or tagalog and english combine in conversation. even the little child. It is even rare to hear somebody in the philippines speaking straight tagalog. there is always an insert of english words.

We used Tag-Lish as a language here in the Philippines. Tagalog is our mother tongue and English. Most people here can't speak straight tagalog and speak straight english nowadays so Tag-Lish is our language. ❤️

Honestly I don’t think taglish is something many people are proud of. I find it hard to speak in full English or full tagalog because of all the switching lmao.

Taglish or Englog is code-switching and/or code-mixing in the use of Tagalog/Filipino and English, the most common languages of the Philippines. The words Taglish and Englog are portmanteaus of the words Tagalog and English.

Filipino (often refer to as Tagalog) and English are our official languages. It's normal here to incorporate both languages when we speak. Switching languages comes naturally. It's called TagLish.
We do Tagalog/English a LOT 😉 #taglish or sometimes in our regional dialect we mix it with english too.

That's Taglish :) using both Tagalog and English, that's how we really speak especially if you're in the cities. because there some words that there's no direct translation in Tagalog so most of our sentences are taglish. And on some corporate companies/schools/universities EOP or English only policy is mandatory. There are even some provinces that they're more comfortable speaking in English instead of Tagalog so either a dialect on that region or province and then English. We also have "Chavacano" here, a group of Spanish-based creole language located in Zamboanga city. Spanish is their major dialect. And by the way aside from Tagalog, English and Spanish we also have almost 200 local dialects scattered from different regions. More Power and Godbless!

This is so late but Josh and Julia was lovers in real life before, but things happened and I think they choose to separate, and I think the song goes perfectly with what happened to them that’s why doing that wedding vows scene emotions was real. Yeah it’s really normal for us Filipinos to speak both English and Tagalog naturally like I think every sentence it’s always a combination of the 2 languages. Also, apart from English, Tagalog and regional dialects, we Filipinos also speak Spanish like real grammatically correct Spanish (not chavacano). I, for one speak Spanish. I studied in Instituto Cervantes and I think others were naturally spanish speaker as it was pass down from their ancestors.
Technically, the Philippines has 2 seasons-- the dry season and the rainy season. Rainy season is around June/July to September (approximately), dry season from around October to June. Sometines we think, not in terms of dry vs rainy, but hot vs cool weather. So we think in terms of summer (May - June) when it's unbearably hot. And then the relief during the much cooler 'ber months September/October /December, although January is cool too.

Language switching is normal to us Filipinos. Whether we speak english then Pilipino (or vice versa) hence taglish or tagalog to any other vernacular . Unconciously, we tend to reiterate the idea using another language.
We call it Taglish, a combination of Tagalog and English. The conversation usually starts with a premise (in Tagalog) and the context and explanations are in English (or combination).

We are so use of speaking tagalog and english mixed ( taglish ) and even our internal dialects we mix it with english .. and there are a lot of english words that doesnt have tagalaog or pilipino translation thats why we use english a lot
Its taglish (tagalog and english )and we used it all the time.. some of the words in english dont have a direct translation or sometimes even there is we dont know it coz we are not using it or if we cant express it in tagalog we switch to english vice versa. If you watch more interviews you'll see its a common practice.

Philippines is multilingual country...we speak/understood lots of languages...we have more than 72 local languages aside from international languages that most of us filipino knows how to speak...each person will probably know how to speak not less than 4-5 language😅😅😅 i'ts very common to us shifting frm one dialect to another dialect...we commonly used "Taglish"(tagalog-english)... me, i can speak 5 language (tagalog/english/bisaya/waray & ilonggo) 😅😅😅
