What a great teaching tool, and a great teacher. I learned something today. Thanks Gene. I took out a Hobie in St Lucia a couple a years back and the gusty changeable wind was tricky. Thrilling and terrifying in equal measure. Can’t wait to get back out there 👍🏻
Excellent! I've been taking the ASA courses online to learn how sailing works, this put everything into perspective; including the terminology. Great, great job sir. It also helps that you remind me of the voice actor who plays the seagull on "The Little Mermaid". Love it!!
Great job, appreciate the video. Purchased the program for some fun when not out on my boat and your video definitly helped explain how to use the program; plus a ton of great sailing information in general, great stuff! Cheers
Gene, thank you for a wonderful tutorial. As much as the game focuses on sailing, there wasn't much help with the interface. You ask about how to remove the HUD at 5:10. I did find that you can remove those two compass rose and HUD by clicking in the top right of the screen next on the three bars tab with your mouse. You then get a diagonal line through the three bars and you can click the tab again to bring it back.
Auto sail in this game is so easy, there are people like me who like to stay and never see the land. And also pulls data from Ghibs file from NOAA every 6 hours and 3 hours until the file becomes avaliable so it updates every 2 hour to not cause a direct change!
My interface does not respond as yours does Gene. For example, clicking the anchor neither raises or lowers the sail. When I cursor over a line, the entire camera view shifts like a drunken sailor off to the side hiding the view of 90% of the vessel. Any advice?
To be honest I find the use of the mouse on the running rigging to be problematic. However I do not have a problem with clicking on the anchor icon. Never the less I find the user interface at this time to be clunky. My solution has been to learn and use keyboard commands whenever possible rather then the mouse. Use the Q & E key to rotate through the rigging menu. That menu will allow you to run the main up and down. Hope this helps.

Nice, I knew there must be a way to remove it.

I just downloaded Pro and I don't have some of the UI features that he shows, like the Steering wheel or the Eyes...what gives?
I don't know why. Maybe someone else knows. Did you change the settings to expert to get all functions?
Can you play it offline? I don't mind about the real world condition. Just want to get hang of my coast line and navigation
Yes, you can but with some limitations. I wasn't sure so I just tried and confirmed.
Is sailaway pro worth the extra bucks? I'm thinking of going with the basic version
If you plan on racing with the international community, then yes, otherwise probably not.
Great Vid really good help :)
Glad to post
Very cool how are your aquariums doing?
The main display is excellent but the lagoon and fresh are struggling. I will be doing an update on these soon.
Thanks!
Where is the Genara sail?
The genoa sail is a type of large jib and not part of this introductory to sailing. It would be handled just like any other jib.
