I remember playing a piece once where for some inane reason it was a new letter just about every line. It wasn't a long piece at all, but by the end I think it was somewhere around U.
@@incognitoburrito6020 Yeah, I played one like that. I think the tune was only like 6 minutes long, so it's not exactly a short digestible pop song but it's no 30 minute prog rock opera. IIRC it got to around letter S, which I found bizarre because multiple letters had like nothing significant changing from the previous letter.
God I remember I was playing drums for a REALLY long medley and it was pretty fast so turning the page wasn't an option. Basically I had five music stands set up in a big U starting at my hi hat and ending at my ride cymbal. This song was like 12 minutes long lol
I used that tascam (mk2 I think) 4 track in front of you for years. I still have it, and the poor thing is just collecting dust. These videos get me so excited, I just love watching the logistical nightmare and musical camaraderie of the entire project. it looks so fun in a "we survived that miserable experience" kind of way. makes me strive to be a better musician. Thank you very much for sharing this Adam I certainly appreciate it.
Hey Adam! I came up with a weird collab idea the other day while watching one of your videos and I felt like I just needed to share it. You said that modular synths terrify you because you'd probably end up getting obsessed if you got your own rack, and that ( for some odd reason ) made me think of how Andrew Huang said that he doesn't know much jazz theory. These two thoughts of course brought me to the inevitable conclusion that you and Andrew should collab on a video on how to make modular jazz. You could do an introduction to basic jazz theory and Andrew could talk about how to implement knowledge of theory when making a patch on a modular or something along those lines. It's probably a crappy idea but if you read this would you mind sending a quick reply? Just knowing that you read my comment would mean a great deal to me :)
ThePopeFrancis this was take 5! Sorry, normally I would show more than one take, but honestly, I was only working with footage from the final take on all cameras, and my own footage from the small room, so it made for a better vlog just to show the final cans take
Hey Adam, Question for your next Q&A. I always wonder about sessions and gigs like this and the shows you do at Rockwood. I've performed at Rockwood before and typically I'm either paid by whoever is running the gig or not at all. For something like this video though, did every musician there wind up getting paid? If so, where does the budget for something like that come from? Or is this more a labor of love? There were many talented musicians performing great music in this video which would make me ok with being paid less than normal. I know at the end you mentioned an IndieGoGo campaign and it also looked as if they were filming some sort of thank you video. Was that how this was sponsored? I know that talking about payment can be a touchy subject among musicians, but if you feel comfortable answering I'd be interested in hearing your perspective about situations like this. Thanks, always dig the videos. -Rob
Rob Carroll not sure if Adam already answered this in a gig vlog, but I figured I’d chime in jic. We are partially self-funded, partially crowd-sourced and the rest comes from the good will of everyone in the community. We pay everyone who plays/sings $10 and they are all very generous with their time/talent. We’ve got a patreon that helps support this and we pay the rest of the costs out of pocket between the four producers of the project. We are currently applying to become a non-profit, so it is our hope to apply for grants in the future. :)
Hi Adam, I saw your video on tips for practicing music while driving and while I 100% agree the tips are good I also agree that gives people the impression that it's OK to focus on things other than driving while on the road. I already had lots of respect for you as a musician but your taking down the video makes me respect you as a decent person who cares about others and leads by example. BTW: Please record the video again, this time maybe during one of your subway commutes because the tips were excellent.
I only heard them say they had a click so that's crazy, but I think the sound engineer is in that same room so Adam might have been reacting to the sound engineer for some kind of context assuming there were no monitors
The entire rooms where there's silence and maybe one or two notes while some other section is going all out have me orchestra flashbacks. "Oh, I'm tacit 3 movements, so I'll just sit here? Cool thanks."
Ha ha ha ha you called a toy bass!!!! When I was watching the video on Apartment Sessions channel and you were playing the guitar I was like 'oh look Adam's playing the toy bass'
Well this was definitely planned more than 4 weeks prior, it's a hard mess if the individual schedules are easily taken so I'd imagine they book them early.
is this what it's like to have friends
I believe they are all being paid
Seems that way
nice to see you bro

Are you going to Iceland too?
and I thought I was stressed when sound engineering...

Adams room is so chill lol
Those are the perks of being the only RUclipsr with almost half a million subs in the band. :DD

I love the bits where it goes to just the audio of that room

Shoutout to sound technicians busting ass. Nothing works without them.
I guess you could say that Evan's stress level was "through the roof."
I guess you could say that Evan’s stress level was “I’m on top of the bed”.
Now we just need an Apartment Sessions where all of the instruments are Casio Rapmen.
119 thumbs-up, no thumbs-down on this comment two days later... THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN
Casio Rapmen? Casio Rapmans? Casios Rapman?
I love the plural conflict
@@FunnelCakeRyan definitely Rapmen
Rob Lifford it doesn’t show thumbs down
This looks unbelievably stressful haha. You definitely got the best deal here Adam!
Legend says Evan went to mental hospital after this.
I'M ON TOP OF THE BED
Only the vocalists seem to be not stressed right out lol this is seriously awesome
Hilarious seeing the rooms during their quiet parts lol
Wow 50 musicians you weren't kidding
when the song is so complex and long you have PART V
When I read this before watching, I assumed you meant V as in 5, not the letter!

The amount of work to get this things done is amazing!

Great job Adam. This was a fantastic season finale and I appreciate you being the official BTS videographer for many of these episodes!!
A beautiful and happy day of music

I can’t even comprehend the logistics of recording and pumping sound to the different sections. 😰

Men that's would be even better than the collab with samuraiguitarist. It needs to happen
An Andrew Huang collaboration NOW!!
Knowledge of theory -> proceeds to make monophonic blip blop sounds on a ten grand modular...
That is such a cool idea
Editing was spot on during the performance, as always awesome video man.
So cool that you played with The Beatbox House Adam!
Mad props to Evan for remembering to drink water and take some care of himself while stressed and running everything
What a coincidence. I'm in a production of The Wiz and we used this song for our dance auditions! Thanks!

Hey BASS, love these!, a split screen would've been so cool on this one! Congrats.

This should go viral. To me it's your best gig vlog up to this date
All of us coming out of quarantine will be singing this song

Love the six minute contrast inside and out
these apartment sessions always look super fun

So much talent so close together. I'm jealous.
Thanks for another fascinating video on this truly complex & joyful process - I love these!!
I was just getting back from a gig and thinking I could do with some Adam Neely before I go to sleep, and low and behold, a fresh upload 👌

"The sound crew is working very hard." Yup, we are always running around with our heads cutoff to make sure all goes well. Ain't for everyone!
I like the music and then silence part going from rooftop to bedroom thought that was hilarious.
WOOOOWWWW!!! It is very very cool!!!

Very understandable Neely, Very Understandable.....
holy you really gotta be reading constantly. no musical context in that room.
pretty sure they have monitors, but you're still right, I'd fail this gig entirely because I can't sightread LOL

Marcello Chua no monitors, just click. But we were close enough to the roof to hear some stuff, enough to give us a little bit of context.

How much planning does this all take?
