    As a local, and to all locals reading, we have a duty to call this stuff out. These animals and the park itself is part of our heritage and a gift we share with the rest of the world. Don't come into our country, our state, our community, our park, and start chasing defenseless baby animals around. They have more legal right to that land than you I promise.

      Yes, so many times stupid reckless humans end up causing injuries and death to animals. Animal attacks and/or kills a human, then the animal is put at risk of being put down. He should be permanently banned from parks. When you are warned and instructed what NOT to do in parks, and you do it anyway, then you shouldn't be allowed back. Period.

      Actually black bears have quite a bit of patience towards humans. They’re usually skittish of people and rarely attack. It’s common knowledge that eastern black bears are fairly chill.

      John Spence not necessarily. A recent attack in Yellowstone by a mother bear did not result in the bear being put down because she was not acting any differently than a mother bear would. The person died, but clearly was negligent by approaching the mother bear. Can’t say for sure how it would have been handled here though.

      I grew up in swva and my granny and papaw had a camper in Dandridge and we'd go stay there over the summer. My papaw liked going over to Cades Cove but nothing set his temper off as bad as watching people carrying on like idiots over the sight of bears. I remember this one time, some car from New Jersey slammed on its breaks and stopped in the middle of the road because a bear was coming down the side of a hill and everyone in the vehicle go so riled up that one of them actually fell out of the car. I've never heard my papaw holler and cuss people for their stupidity so bad in my life, he just about got out of the car and went and gave them a piece of his mind.

    What no one is addressing is that now the cubs have been taught that it's normal to show aggression towards humans. It is a dangerous lesson to teach bears. Lets hope that those cubs don't go on to hurt someone. If they do the man should be charged for public endangerment. That man needs to be barred from all state parks for the rest of his life imo.

      They won’t put down a sow with Cubs. Especially if they saw this video. Generally young boars that get into trouble and even then they relocate them at least once. If they continue to get in trouble they will then put them down. But never a sow with Cubs.

I love all the wild life there and the beautiful scenery, I respect and obey their rules, I don’t know what makes people think they can just walk up to bears like they’ve been friends with them for years! There are some stupid people in this world!

      Here also planning my first vacation to The Smokies and al though I’m thrilled to be in the wilderness I wouldn’t want to cross Mama Bear’s path that close never the less be that stupid as to pretend she would need permission were to cross.

    My family uses two phrases... "The most stupid last words ever spoken: 'Hey, ya'll, watch this!'" and the other is: "You can't FIX stupid." I reckon he lives up to both categories' potential.

    I have seen people like him think they can walk up on these bears. Right before my wife and I took our honeymoon in Nov 1999, a lady was killed. Then last year a man was killed. We’ve been going to Gatlinburg since the 70’s as it’s only 5 hrs from our home. But countless times we see people run up to these bear. Not smart at all.

      @@snugbug5067 - I’m not sure what’s going on in their minds. A guy walked 50 yds into one of the fields once when we were there and was probably only 10ft away as the bear was rolling around on its back. Thank God it was in a good mood and just got up and walked off. It was scary to think of what could of happen. I played football at 6’1 270 and wouldn’t stand a chance against one of it really wanted to harm me. I don’t know why some people think they’re tamed animals. God help them.

    Good thing these bears aren't known to be aggressive towards humans. If that momma was a Grizzly, he would have been bear food. I'm honestly surprised that mom didn't actually attack him, running up on her and her cubs like that.

    We were there in July 2020. Seen deer and a coyote and one bear. It’s a beautiful drive through Cade’s Cove.

    Stupid ! She didn't charge you but meant to not approach her cubs. And she was quite tolerant ! Please leave these animals alone ! Far too many people harrass wild life on their territories, all the time in every place.

    Saw how mama bear looked behind to see if all her cubs crossed the road safely after chasing the old man away? dumb human beings learn lessons from smart bears - they defend their little one while human beings butcher their vulnerable ones in their wombs.

    I’ve seen some real Einstein’s in Cades Cove. It always amazes me how many parents send their kids to get closer to the bears for a photo! I have seen several close calls!

    I live in East Tennessee and it always amazes me the level of stupidity people have towards wild animals.
    One of the biggest problems is for some reason people think black bears are calm peaceful animals. They usually are right up until they aren't. The apex predators are not your friend.

    If that had been a brown bear instead of a black, the outcome would likely have been gruesome. And I doubt that an enlightened park official would punish a mother bear for defending her cubs.
