The S8 is pretty much better in all aspects and comes with a headphone jack. HTC is falling apart. LG is doing fine, but Samsung is dominating.
so htc could add dual boom sound speakers on the m7/8 which had a headphone jack, but had to skip it on this phone to "improve" the speaker quality by adding a side firing speaker

a bit more engineering goes into it than that... im sure it has great speakers, the m7/8 are trash by todays standards even if they are on the front and you can see the holes. people love their holes.

Sajjad Zulphekari, I owned and M8 before getting the HTC 10 and there was VERY LITTLE difference in terms of volume, but quality was definitely better on the 10. The USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that's shipped with the U11 has a 24bit/48kHz DAC built in. One of the main reasons for removing the headphone jack was to expand the resonance chamber for the bottom-firing speaker and the tweeter at the top has a new acoustic chamber for better highs and mids. The phone is a real beast in terms of sound quality and how loud it is. It's much, much louder than every other phone out there and much clearer and fuller-sounding. BoomSound never went away, but now it's at a whole new level!

I really like this phone. I think that a lot of negativity in the comments comes from the current unpopularity of HTC. But the features seem solid. Maybe you should give it a chance.
Exactly! Everyone is so quick to hate on HTC, but they've been around longer than Samsung and Apple; they clearly know what they're doing.
People seem to forget that HTC has been the BEST Android smartphone innovator since Android...they had a few off years but now they literally killing the competition.... I have zero brand loyalty... I just choose the best overall phone every year regardless of brand... and this year it's HTC.

Been a HTC Fanboy since XDAii then Touch Pro2 then One M7. What they have been doing recently does seem like their phones department is dieing. Hopefully the can diversify and do other things like Vive VR. Sorry I agree with the Samsung Fanboys.
Mad Goat I have an HTC 10, and I agree with everyone else. I love HTC, but they are making mediocre phones with too high of a price point. Whenever Samsung is close to releasing a phone, I think, "I wonder how high tech it'll be." Whenever HTC releases a phone, I think, "Please don't screw this one up."
Only ever owned HTC. Legend, Sensation XL, One X and now with M9. Contract is up next month. My business partner got an S8 after always being with HTC. I'm going to do the same. HTC used to rival Samsung, now they're just an alternative with niche features but none that you actually want. Each phone since One X has been further behind the game and the U11 is the first one that is literally going to kill the brand.
Not just Samsung fanboys, but everyone else. HTC have been making sub-par phones at outrageous price points for a while now. Also zero innovation, just copying everyone else and putting a new name on it (cough cough U Ultra)

I can't believe how many ignorant comments there are here. Everyone saying it has bezels and no head phone jack, yet they consider the iPhone a proper flagship. 1) The U11 has smaller bezels than the iPhone 7+, 2) the iPhone 7+ doesn't come with a headphone jack either, yet HTC offers amazing noise cancelling earphones that sound, provide the adaptor in the box and the quick charger 3.0 ) much better than the shitty Apple or Samsung earphone's they would otherwise plug in and people still complain, 3) The price is way cheaper than the comparable iPhone 7+ and GS8 and that's the main complaint. FFS this phone is cheaper and far better than the iPhone 7+ and all these stupid commenting that it's too expensive.. However the majority of these liked top comments, have worthless arguments with contradictory points.) it seems to me you just hate HTC.
juan david quijano 1 bezels 2 headphone jack 3 good audio 4 price.. lol this phone lacks superior features man thats why, while for example iphone provides the best specs and os, gs8 is beautiful, oneplus for value, keyone(my personal favorite) has a goos battery life.. nothing stands out

I honestly don't get why this phone is getting so much hate. It is cheaper than most other 2017 flagship devices coming at the price of $650US. It has one of the best camera and speaker on any smartphone. It has 2k LCD display with punchy and accurate colors. It also has a very good audio output and comes with a decent pair of earbuds. It is well optimized, and has all the newest hardware built into the phone. Why so much hate?
So when htc had dual front firing speaker it had headphone jack but now it has tiny single side speakes and huge bezels they remove headphone jack ?

wow this looks so LUXE, lush and gorgeous! I love the squeeze sensors! what a novel idea. the liquid metallic finished looks really nice too. I just wish it would work on Google's Project fi. but also the bezels are almost as enormous as the ones on my pixel XL. it would be interesting if it were a little slimmer from top to bottom

I feel like someone will squeeze the frame to hard multiple times and the frame will bend over time. Also, will it work with cases?

I love the whole design except the headphone thing. I know I know! That's all people have been talking about. But as long as I can use wireless headphones( beats) then I we'd no problem with this phone. It's so shiny and I love the little squeeze thing they've got going on. I've been with HTC since I got my first cell phone and I don't plan on leaving. plus htc allows you to customize SO much more things than a simple apple or Samsung and that's what I really love about it.

While this is not a bad phone by any means, I see no reason to buy this phone over phones such as the S8 or G6, though the noise cancelling headphones sound pretty cool.

I dumped my s8+ for this phone, and what a world of difference from coming from touch whiz to nearly stock android. I think more companies like HTC should do the things they have done, just add a few features that people like myself enjoy, such as double tap to wake and sleep and then also expandable storage with water resistance. Wireless charging is nice but I shouldn't have to buy a separate accessory for a phone to utilize that feature of the phone. This phone works for me and in my opinion its the perfect phone for me in 2017 and one that I picture myself having for a while.

Edge sense sounds like something where a convenience key would be more convenient. However iphone should really get edge 3D Touch on their screen - left edge is already for switching to the last app. Maybe make the bottom edge as a home button since they're getting rid of that, the right for their camera and top edge for flashlight. Apple copy this.
Speaker is back to awesome on the 11 though. Is it still stereo?

You people are so annoying and clearly are hating just to hate. This is not the best phone ever created but it's pretty freakin' solid. It has the same specs as an S8 and (possibly) a better camera. Sense is better than TouchWiz to me. It has pressure sensors that's pretty unique. They even give you nice pair of headphones so idk what everyone is being so dramatic about. If the headphone jack is that critical for you just don't get the phone but that doesn't mean the phone sucks.
Why remove a feature that clearly useful? The only reason I can see is that they are cutting cost because the certainly got enough space with that bottom bezel which is ridiculous for flagship phone or they are copying Apple. The camera is brilliant having seen reference shots from the camera and I cant comment on this version of sense UI. Pressure sensitive is less useful than the top ticker screen seen on HTC U ultra because if you want to use a good protective case it will have to cover the sides rendering it useless. I can't comment on headphones but from reviewers they are worse than sennheiser cx300 $20 pair of earphones. Finally why cant HTC have matching front and back covers would it kill them to put some R&D into that????????
The phone is interesting but it should of been released in 2016 (minus processor) and they should just bring back the headphone jack as they are chasing after the wrong flagship. Apple isn't their greatest threat, it's Samsung.

Great phone from HTC, I really like this brand, no top notch like all other phones nowadays, nice and productive innovations, great camera and great specs..not to mention sound quality, damn this phone sound incredible good

For the people here in comment sections. One reason for it to be over s8 is because of its camera. It has the highest rating in DxOmark and has recently dethroned Pixel XL in the best smartphone camera. So this phone is for Cameraphone fans. :)

The reasons why most of the people including me loved and bought HTC was due to following reasons
1) Awesome audio quality from both the headphone jack and Front facing stereo speakers.
2) Solid metal unibody build Quality.
unfortunately both of them are gone...!!!????It is the same glossy fancy looking fragile smartphone with no headphone jack...I don't see any solid reason to buy this... I am using HTC right now but I think my next phone won't be from HTC...

This is not the first time HTC has done this with the headphones, back in the HTC Touch Diamond days, their phones used HTC's special usb connector for sound output. I like Samsung's approach better, why not have both options? Because in the end, as much ¨courage¨ USB C might be, is just a hassle in everyday life.

I'd prefer having 2 USB C in phones so that one can be used for charging & one for headphone, if it comes to the worst 😂😂
The point is that USB C allows power intake as well (which the 3.5 cannot do). so, powering high end Headphones can be done without amplifiers. Also, it allows for more audio experience
personally, this 3.5mm is not a deal breaker for me. But there are always people who'd find it harder to change their everyday lifestyle

Instead of *squeezing* to get some shortcuts wouldn't it be genius to remove the buttons and replace it with textured parts of the frame and sensors behind it it would look so bad ass and genius.

Traxgen They have pretty solid reason and affect of this. They didn't just remove the port like they did in Ultra.
This time, the USB Cable powered Earphones allow for active noise cancellation & the personal audio preferences in which they said the voice reflects your ear drum pads & the phone figures out what settings you need.
+ it made them put a much better vibrator & Louder Hi-Fi speakers. So, I agree with them
and they also provide in-box 3.5mm adapted if you're so keen on using the same old headphones.

Reasons why this phone doesnt suck: Theyve entered the waterproof market (biggest reason for avoiding htc 10 by far) while continuing to support great audio (even if they lose the jack) as well as minor improvements all around. Also why are people upset that they don't put the speaker holes on the front anymore, its still probably the best sound around and they arent intending to move backwards. And the bezel? Am i the only one who does care about this? I actually like to hold my phone without triggering the touchscreen so I welcome this when the screen will be the same size either way. Its shiny and tbh I don't like the fingerprinty surface but who isn't going to buy a case/skin anyway? (probably me cause I think i'm cool like that) plus its not like its ugly and if you care that much about appearance of a social media device then there's no saving you. The phone is hella thin and the only thing s8 has on it it that its made by samsung. We could argue which is better but at this point every flagship phone is worthy of purchase, and they can all still improve on some things but they are so similar that there is no real trade off worthy of glorifying one more than another.

im on your side? lol. the reason that people avoided the htc 10 for not being water resistant doesnt relate to if it is or not, but it was not marketed as being resistant. i was not concerned but people not including me had no reason to believe that the phone was waterproof. so yes, everything you said is true, i wasnt dissing the 10 im on your side trying to point out why the 11 is sik

Am I the only one who is put off by the design of this phone?
1. The home button isn't centred, it's closer to the bottom (looks terrible, bothers me a lot)
2. The "glass back" looks like gaudy cheap plastic
3. No headphone jack (I'm ok with this if they provide an adaptor in the box)

I have the M10 & as you say, it also has the home button a bit aligned towards the bottom. But believe me, you won't even recognise it when using the phone. in fact it helps you all the more as it prevents accidental home button touch while typing or using the phone
The glass they used in the back panel is seriously one thing that impressed me if you watched their live release video. You can clearly see that the Colors are popping out & that it's anadozed behind the glass (so, no wear and tear)
and they mentioned that they'll include 3.5mm adapted with the box itself. and if you research closely , you'll find that the phone improved a lot by removing the 3.5 jack as it allows room for improvements like,
active noise cancellation, ear drum pad reflection based audio preferences setting & over-all better Hi-Res to top it off
