I think they saw that when Philly took Quinyon and the run of DBs started, they knew they could miss Terrion.
While we clearly still need a DE2, getting the best CB in the draft is so much better than getting the 3rd/4th best DE in the first round.
This defensive end thing overblown . Lions only need paschal , Houston , betts or Davenport to break through . We had literally nobody in the db room that had the potential to break through
I trust BH period no if ands or buts!
I saw something that they had a trade with Seattle, then pulled it after Latu was selected by Indy
The fact that they also got Rakestraw makes me like the Terrion pick more. This secondary has turned from a weakness into what looks like a strength. They had one glaring weakness and addressed it. The only area they’re noticeably weaker at this season is WR and even that is marginal. If Jamo can get something like 800 yards, 6 TD, you could argue it’s not a weakness at all. They may have not added a big name pass rusher. But they didn’t lose anything either, if they can get
Tarion Arnold wasnt really on my mind as a potential pick mainly because I did not expect to have a shot at him, even at 24.
I’m rooting for Robinson but I think he’s basically a Josh Paschal but better. Not much pass rush upside projected but I hope he becomes a stud. He seems like a great dude
It makes sense to draft a CB we already needed a CB in the draft or free agency, and that was before Sutton got in trouble. Brad probably wanted to go EDGE but knowing how trashed the secondary was had to pivot and was able to get 2 high-value CBs in the draft. This is why he is bringing in all of these boom-or-bust project edge players because we don't need to have an elite pass rusher but could have an elite edge rotation by a committee that is just as effective as a high-priced Edge defender. I could understand being hyper-critical and questioning l of BH if the team wasn't making any improvements but I think he deserves some grace, no GM is perfect with moves and picks but BH is pretty good.
D-Rob was my pick for the Lions, but they made their choice!!! Now, we just have to see what Arnold brings to the table this coming season.
Full disclosure, I never thought we had a chance at couple of those CB’s. So I wanted Darius for sure.
Arnold is THE guy I’m glad Brad got aggressive and made the jump
Both positions were a need, and Arnold was a great choice. At least right now. Gotta get it done on the field
Verse or Turner if we could have swing the trade. But good with Arnold
I prefer trading up for Arnold over drafting Darius at 29. I would have been disappointed if they traded up to draft Darius. love what they were able to do.
Terrion Arnold was a steal with where they got him. I still support the move as he was probably BPA on the board and filled a need. However, I wouldn't have taken Rakestraw with pick 61 as I valued Kingsley Suamataia as BPA and a first-round talent. Thought he was the steal of the draft. I also am not sold on Pick 132 - RB/S Sione Vaki. I thought that was a major reach and would have taken my second corner in Qwan'tez Stiggers, CB, Toronto Argonauts, or traded back and taken him in the 5th round. I guess we will see who is right over the next few seasons. I would have liked Detroit to draft Beaux Limmer or Tanor Bortolini, as both have high upsides with their athletic performance.
I heard a lot of talk that Robinson was who they were targeting. I’m not going to question Brad on this pick. The Lions haven’t faired well on cb in 1st round in the past, Westbrook & Terry Fair but we had different GM back then. If Holmes thinks he’s a dog I’m all in with the pick! Go Lions
I forgot where I heard it (it was somewhere on RUclips) so I can't provide the source, sorry about that. According to the report his source told him that there was a lot of discussion in the room about who to trade up for. Darius Robinson or Terrion Donald. They really liked Robinson and one think that made him every more attractive was that he was from the area even though he played college out of state. According to his source leading up to the draft Brian Branch was telling people how much to wanted to play with Donald and that Detroit would be so much better with him. Obviously pass defense is our biggest liability and our biggest needs were edge and corner. The choice was do we go for a hometown kid who we really like at a position that we need help at or do we go to a player who we also really like at a position that we also need help at. In the end they went back to Brad Holmes slogan of drafting the best player available and on their boards that was Donald, There was even talk of drafting both of them, but that would have taken something like our 2024 2nd round pick, 2025 first round pick and maybe something more. It's fun to speculate, and play fantasy GM, but we really don't know what was going on in that room. I am glad we were able to get Donald, our secondary is a joke, I like him even more after hearing his first press conference. Bottom line I trust Brad Holmes, that's something I have never been able to say about the Lions after following them for over 4 decades.
Arnold I didn’t think would of been there but Nate Wiggins was my favorite DB of the class
I was eyeballing a pass rusher not named Chop Robinson. I feel that Chop is a edge rusher best suited for passing downs, much like James Houston so why get a player similar to the one we have? Any other edge taken in the 1st round would've been fine in my eyes. But once Arnold fell and I believe I seen a tweet saying that if Arnold fell to 18, that we were gonna move up and take him. It was no doubt in my mind that we were taking Arnold when I seen him still there at 20 and for good reason. Best situation in my eyes because I'm not sold on the health of any other CB not named Amik Robinson.
