I would recommend looking into the zwo helical focuser. I use this with my OAG and it makes focusing easy.

agreed, I use this as well and it makes focusing fairly easy. I slot my 120 mini all the way in so I can get close to focus right away even if I'm taking the entire rig down.

@@bmbaum Yep, I swap my image train between 3 different scopes without an issue. It really helps with this.

I second. I headed that entire project off at the pass and got the Helical focuser from the get-go. It is amazing. Focusing my OAG is about a 10-second process...if it needs it at all.

Great video. Thanks. I’m currently struggling with my EDGE H8 and celestron OAG. When looping the guide camera I can see several stars and I can get some proper focus. But wen I start calibrating (or guíding) those few stars disapear and I hardly get one or two, even cracking the gain up (ASÍ 1743mm) to 400, and binning x2, and 3-4 seconds exposure. I’ve tried pushing and pulling the OAG prism without success. I’m also using ASIAR. I’m going to try rotating the main camera but I dont quite understand how does it affect the guide camera. Could you offer some extra advice?. Thanks again

I'm very happy to hear that the shape of the star is not important, that's what I wanted to know. I'm setting up for the OAG with a Newtonian telescope and I expect that the stars will have a terrible shape for the Coma that the off-axis will surely show.

Yes it is a pain to focus the guide camera attached to the OAG that's why i got the ZWO helical focuser as it makes lift much easier.

Thanks for your video, it was very helpful. Why don't you use an OAG with a helical focuser on the guide camera? For example the HELIX Artesky, it makes things a lot easier for you.

Thanks. Having set the image train up with the OAG, can you still take the chain off, attach a barlow to the chain and do planetary imaging (not guided) without any issues from the OAG (basically just switch off the OAG?).

Cant you do a decent calibration during daytine with a far away object Luke a Tower? The aim is to synch the focus

Are you able to utilize an OAG with DSLR/refractor setup? Or is it best to stay with a guide scope setup?

I only use my OAG with my EdgeHD long focal lenght SCT. I don't bother with it in combination with refractors at all.

    • @Paul_AstroEsthetics_

@@realmcerono so they're best used with longer focal lengths and pointless for smaller refractors with, say, 300mm to 600mm.

@@Paul_AstroEsthetics_ Yes thats how I do it at least. Even on my 8" SCT I get easily the same results with a guidescope and an OAG is a real hassle to even find a guidestar sometimes let alone focusing it. But on a big SCT it makes a lot of sense .
