  • Enjoy a ride the original Revolution coaster at Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. This is Anton Schwarzkopf's Revolution (then Revolucion) as it was before the painful overhead restraint system damaged the ride experience for most. The footage was taken during the American Coaster Enthusiast's ACE Con X in 1987. Other interesting old and new videos can be found on my RUclips Channel by clicking on my name above. Subscribers are welcome. Thanks for watching!

    That is an excellent job filming for 1987, especially considering the larger heavier equipment needed back then.

      I couldn't agree more! It's a very fun ride, and smooth as silk and will not bruise like other rides. It's my favorite coaster anywhere. I have long admired the magnificent work the engineers and builders did with designing and constructing the Revolution (o:

      I went there in 1984 one time with my party
      I was 17 at the time
      I got in line for the Revolution.The line was long.I wanted to ride it before daytime turned into night but my party wanted to leave before darkness
      Shit
      I never rode the Revolution

      @@jojovaldez2766it’s still there so you still have the chance to ride it! Colossus is a different story but you can also ride the twisted version. I recommend it!

      Believe it or not I was 10 years old the first time I rode Revolution in 1977. Colossus was being built or about to start being built at the time. They had a model of it displayed. I was 10 but I was kind of a mature 10. Taller than most ten year olds and started to blossom so most people thought I looked older. Anyway, during the 80’s Magic
      Mountain was the pace to be on the weekends and during the summer. Everyone went! And if you could get a job there during the summer you were one of the awesome cool kids! There were times like it! Some of the best times I ever had. You went there with a couple of friends and somehow you always saw something there you knew so then you’d join each other in your roller coaste riding adventure. I miss those days!

      Yea and if you go there now as an adult those find memeories come rushing back. I have visited several times this summer as I had been in hiatus for decades. Much has changed but as you walk among the midways you are taken back to what once was awesomely fun times you will never forget. I recommend going back to ride Revolution and Twisted Colossus! I know it’s not the same as classic Colossus but to me it will always be my beloved Colossus.

    Back in 1987, they were really dispatching trains at a rapid pace! When cresting the third hill in the POV, you can see the train ahead threading the loop... and 40 seconds later in the ride, the POV is threading the loop - WOW!! I've never ridden this but have ALWAYS wanted to! Very impressive layout that uses the terrain well. Yes, some would say the loop was a "gimmick," but Magic Mountain built an awesome ride that was much more than a one-trick pony gimmick.

      Holy crap, yes! Legend has it that Revolution once ran six trains (or maybe they had six trains but only ever ran four or five, who knows what's been lost in translation over the years) but even running three trains the crew would have to be super quick and on their game to not stack any - probably something that would be impossible now with the seatbelts and 20 people running to the bins to put away their cell phone and backpack 🙄 It used to be train stopped, everyone got in, brought everything with them, pulled down lap bars, and off they went!

    I've never seen it run so fast as it does here. It seems the lift speed was much faster back then and the brake prior to the ramp loop appears to be either off or non-existant. Miss that dense foliage. 1987 was a great year for that park.

    Cool. If you look fast, you can see the Eagle's Flight sky ride in the background. I love how they didn't apply breaks at the top of every hill. This is pretty much how it looked in 1991 when I got to ride it myself for the first time.

      Johnnie G It's my opinion. I really don't like Magic Mountain now. It's an incredibly ugly park. And there aren't enough flat rides and family rides. A large percentage of their rides are just extreme thrill coasters with the exception of a few kiddie coasters. And I find it really disgusting that they have coasters built on a parking lot.

    • @bumgorf
      @bumgorf 8 лет назад +1

      Elias Mertens That's the point

    • @Dolphanatic
      @Dolphanatic 8 лет назад +6

      +Elias Mertens How can you call the park ugly when they've been renovating the rides (including Revolution) and scenery? As for rides being built on parking lots, that's nothing new. Colossus was built on a parking lot, if you recall. Besides, there are more non-coaster rides at Magic Mountain now than there ever were before, so your argument is invalid.

      @ Elias Mertens, What about now with the new Boardwalk/Crazanity, sick little beer garden behind BFM and the construction of the new area in the back of the park while adding its 20th coaster in that same area?

    Anyone have any insight into how many trains it ran back then? Urban legend says Revolution was once capable of running six trains, but who knows what's been lost in translation over the years. Maybe it HAD six trains, in the same way that Viper once had four trains but only ever ran three. Would love to see some footage of Revolution running three or four, though.

    • @DanielBlaney
      @DanielBlaney 2 года назад

      Highly doubtful. It doesn't have any block sections throughout the course. Only on the final brake run, station, and lift hill.

    • @gansdavid
      @gansdavid Год назад +1

      Great American Revolution ran 5 trains in the cycle back in the beginning. I truly miss how this ride used to be. At the time, It set the bar very high for rollercoasters back then because a rollercoaster with a loop in it was a pretty big deal in those days. They went south 👎 real fast as the years went by and they added the shoulder restraints. They finally ( thank goodness) removed the OTSR but they’ve added so many trim brakes that the ride literally crawls through the circuit now, compared to the speed it used to run. Smh 🤦‍♂️

      +Donovan Gionis Six Flags is giving The Revolution a makeover but judging how Six Flags gives makeovers to their rides I suspect the makeover won't be all that great. They'll probably have movie advertisements on the trains and paint the tracks blue or something stupid like that. They should restore it to EXACTLY the way it was in 1976. But, I don't think that will happen.

    • @donovangionis5383
      @donovangionis5383 8 лет назад

      YesYou123333 Yeah, I'd say I'm still excited about the renovation. But yeah, that is something I'd be worried about.

    • @OakViewFilms
      @OakViewFilms 8 лет назад

      If this was announced 5 years ago, I'd be more skeptical too. However, lately Six Flags has been doing great with all their coaster renovations with the wood-steel hybrid conversions. While this is nowhere near to the extent of a renovation the way Colossus became Twisted Colossus, I'm sure Six Flags will do a good job.

    • @YesYou123333
      @YesYou123333 8 лет назад
