Purchased a 2019 touring 3 weeks ago. Steve's assessments are correct. Some reviewers have complained about a sluggish and unresponsive transmission even in manual mode. I have not detected anything of the sort. Very responsive shifts exactly when you call for them. This is the smoothest v6 I have ever driven, having owned 2 impalas with the GM 3800 V6. This car is fast. Is it the fastest car on the road, by no means whatsoever, but that's not why you buy it. It is a near perfect balance for a daily driver. Would I like all wheel drive? Sure. But, that would have me paying more money. At the end of the day, front wheel drive in the northeast has served us all well for like 50 years. The interior is near perfect. The sound system is the best from a factory I have ever heard. It's truly Lexus level interior. And, if you're looking for a car to last, you have Toyota build quality as opposed to the German money pits as they age. In summary, the car is near perfect. That said...I'll be anxiously awaiting an all wheel drive TRD model with a twin turbo six. :)

This is the BEST non luxury branded car on the market.
Better then all the Acura/Honda sedans. This is the best large sedan for the money and the XSE is the best looking trim for this new Avalon. I had the chance to see a XSE driving at night and it looked damn good. Toyota is killing it right now

I would wrap the roof and pillars in black like they have done on the XSE Camry. It's a VERY Sharp look on this body style. As a former Audi S4 and now Infiniti RedSport owners, it's hard to believe I'm going to spend even less and take a slight step back in performance and consider one of these, but they ride so nice and are so dang reliable, it just makes sense for longer term ownership as the kids make their way through college.

Hello Steve! This Avalon really made an impression on you. I’ve never heard anyone speak like this about Toyota’s Flagship Sedan. But, I am so glad you did. I purchased a New Impala last July 2017 because of many reasons and the deal couldn’t be beat with almost $9000 off the retail price and optioned up with the red tint coat paint and pano roof that is just jaw dropping. I wanted to test drive the new Avalons and no matter where I called or drove to each dealer had NONE on the lot. Just a few older used ones at best they wanted to sell me at almost new car prices. Maybe the next Sedan in a year or so will be this one. Right now I am still enjoying the new Impala with it’s 310 HP. And $25.500 bottom line price.

    • @gene978

Munditimum Mosu Thank You for commenting. What I didn’t mention in my comment was I drove the NEW designed Camry which I felt so tight in I am 6’1”, Civic Touring, Malibu, Maxima, Sonata Limited. And still dollar for dollar the plusses went to the Impala. First the quietness compared to the others, The ride compared to the others, and the Performance and features of the LTE 4G WIFI and Tons of room inside and the value at bottom line was a steal compared to th others. For me it was a lot More car for a lot less money. Yes, it does look like the IMPALA is going away sadly. Buick will make the softer almost luxury sedan for a while while, Cadillac will make a sports luxury sedan.

    • @-Munditimum-
      @-Munditimum- 6 лет назад

That's great to hear. It is surely bigger than the other ones you tested, namely the Maxima that competes directly against it. It seems to have the best reliability out of the bunch as well, especially long term (over 3y). You are right about the quiet cabin, it has the lowest cabin decibel levels of the cars you mentioned above as well.

Steve Wise You spoke like you didn’t know. Thank you for calling me educated but no I’m not no where close to just graduating from college. One question though why didn’t you just buy the xse?

    • @stevewise1656
      @stevewise1656 5 лет назад

Toyota USA Okay, I apologize for the confusion.
Why didn’t I buy the Avalon XSE? Well, I’d actually purchased a Camry XSE in white. The problem was when I went to Toyota.com the site directed me to build and buy a 2019 version. I wanted 2019 Camry with CarPlay. I purchased the Camry only to discover just prior to driving out it was a 2018 Camry. The dealership went on the Toyota.com site and agreed the build and buy is misleading. They took the car back. I had seen my now Avalon Touring on the floor used and for sale. Someone had purchased the car and traded it in a few weeks later with 500 miles on it. So, for $1500 more I purchased the Avalon Touring that was available.
I’d been waiting for the 2019 Lexus ES350 release and was disappointed Toyota/Lexus was maintaining the same clunky infotainment system. So, the Avalon was impressive, available with everything I wanted from the ES, so I purchased it. I didn’t look at an AVALON XSE.
One last thing.:) Toyota really need to hire a software team that understands how to develop intuitive infotainment systems. The current system is horrendous, along with al the apps. In fact, I’ve owned this car since early October and I’ve been dealing with Toyota Corp reps attempting to get my Toyota Remote to work. I’ve paid for it and the app won’t respond. All the reps have been great and they know this is one of a number of app related issues, though this is really ruining the ownership experience. This shouldn’t be so hard.
I pay for my cars in full at point of sale and keep my cars for over a decade. However, I’m nearing a point with near certainty I will sell this car next year if I continue to feel unsatisfied by the experience.
You asked.:) The infotainment needs an entirely new GUI and the apps should be folded into a single app that actually works.
      Happy new year!

Other than a better interior design and the triple beam LED head lights with the check mark symbol (sexy design), it seems evident it's simply due to the title Lexus, which screams luxury. In fact, aside from being more affordable, what people forget to realize, is a key fact is that the e Avalon has a touch screen display. I mean having to navigate via mouse or nob around the display at a stop light to find a song you want is a pain and such a thing of the past. In addition another key feature that the Avalon has that the ES does not have is that is has dynamic turn (front and back) LED turn signals. As stated previously it seems that the title, Lexus, is what primarily sparks people's attention rather than price. Both ES and Avalon are awesome cars, don't mistake me there, but for this young gen guy, I try to go more in depth into the unique features that car brands and their car types have to offer. Therefore the Avalon for me would be the much better choice at the moment. Lexus can wait. Besides 2020 Lexus and Toyota vehicles are right around the corner, so things can get interesting.

Here is some food for thought and I do recommend the Avalon.
I have a 2013 Limited. There a few things I would like better in my car and most of them were addressed in later years. I like most of the 2019 Limited trim options (especially the seat and door diamond stitching) except for these items.
1: Not nuts about interior color of tan, champagne or black. Is a light beige available? Please don't get the black it kills all the interior design details.
2: The design of the side air vents near the doors look really cheap.
    3. I like this grill better than the Touring but both need chrome accents.
    4. That infotainment IPad looking system looks like an afterthought. It looks like a Tesla want to be. It may be the rage but the look, blending and loss of the capacitive buttons was a mistake.
    5. If you have a choice take the 17" wheels. You will get a better ride and selection of replacement tires including mileage warranty.
    6. If you like good sounding music, you have to get the Touring or Limited JBL system. Their standard audio sounds like a tin can.
    7. They finally put real wood trim in but not luxury with the cheaper satin finish. It should be high gloss and I know the extra cost.
    8. What is the software upgrade guarantee for the infotainment system? I paid for the upgrades in my car and I lost functionality yet my car is still current tech capable. People don't think about this but you should.
These are my opinions only. This is a great car and Toyota reliability.

speaking from experience, dont buy a toyota if u actually care about "fun-to-drive." I have the '18 v6 "301 HP" camry and it annoys me often with how slow it actually is. The transmission is a nightmare in terms of "feel" and the acceleration is worse than most other 4 cylinders out there. A "fun-to-drive" car in my opinion is one with quick acceleration and a responsive throttle, neither of which these toyotas have. I would roll with a car with a turbo or an electric vehicle like the tesla if u wanna have fun.
