Great rundown of the series! I discovered it via emulators in the late '90s and Fire Pro on the GBA was the first GBA game I owned (along with Circle of the Moon, both purchased day one).
I'd never heard of the Fire Pro series until you first mentioned it a few years ago. Having played most WWE games from the 90s onwards I was looking for an excuse to play a Fire Pro game. Now I've got an excuse. :D Thanks for letting us know about this! Totally going to buy it. :D
I dont know if youll read this but i only have vague memories of wrestling at butlins when i was a tiny kid. I saw a really famous english wrestler and cant remember who! I bought this game on your recommendation and i have to say, its brilliant. A labour of love. Its just sooo good. You know your games kim! Watch your content all the time and its absolutely phenomenal. Thanks!!!
Thank you for this awesome FPW history lesson! My first entry to FPW was on the GBA, but unfortunately never had the chance to play the others. Fast forward to August 28 and have purchased the FPW Deluxe for PS4 and have to say that it’s fun, but definitely a learning lesson in understanding the controls. Thanks again for the video! 🙏🏾
Your review convinced me to give it a go. Even just watching simulated matches is very fun and often quite intense. Thanks for an informative review 👍 Look forward to diving further into this gem!
Dat Hayabusa theme though. I walk away from almost every Kimble video with some urge to listen to (usually video game) music from my past, but this time you really hit me in the feels, unexpectedly! Awesome as always!
I am so glad you mentioned Suda's involvement with the series. It's the only way I discovered Fire Pro, all because I wanted to know what else that genius worked on!
The potential of Fire Pro is probably the most insane thing a video game can be if you implement a like a battle-net situation. Crazy online live community features. U can view live matches and actually see your wrestler standing in the crowd type stuff..
Thank you again for another great VG Documentary. I can really tell you are passionate about this topic. I've loved the FPW series since I first was able to emulate the SNES versions back in the early 2000s. Then I bought the GBA version as soon as I knew it existed. I always loved this game series.
I would like to say I'm one of those poeple that's having fun with the game. Reviews from you, allie rx and others made me interested in it and I'm glad.
Fully agree. I knew about the series since the SNES days but didn't care much for it until I played the GBA game. Moved on to the PS2 edition later, and still play it often. It's the only series that has gotten wrestling *right*.
Kim great video! I was wondering if you were going to do a video on it. BTW that's my Kazushi Sakuraba edit from the Steam Workshop that you showed in the MMA parts of the video. Thanks for the download I hope you like him!
the only thing missing in this game... is some sort of management mode... or story creator mod..... do you imagine creating another "invasion" storyline... but with the Bullet Club and current promotions???
Oh, one thing worth mentioning- when she talks about being able to import as many custom wrestlers as you like, that's partly because each custom wrestler is 16kb. It's not any extra content, after all, just a bunch of flags (use this head, this body, etc.) So, yeah. I've been holding off downloading too many existing wrestlers since I'm mostly interested in creating my own guys, but- yeah there are a lot of opportunities here.
Kim your content is very unique, & well researched. Highly impressive, if you ask me. I recently unsubscribed from "professional gaming journalists", who used VGCHARTZ as a "legitimate source." Keep up the good work. P.S to support what you said earlier about Aki. Their most famous game is Def Jam: Fight for NY. One of the best fighting games ever made imo.
great video. great editing. solid work, man. I only played this video game a few times in the early up a and it was cool, but I loved my WWF games. I would like to see some gameplay videos with entrances included so I can get a feel for how the game is now.
Had fire pro on the Saturn and dreamcast, loved them. Had to get this version. At the moment a little underwhelmed, no matter who I play as I find myself wrestling exactly the same way. While in other titles different people handle differently
What an epic video .... Love Fire Pro. This game is so addictive. I’ve started playing the Dreamcast version it on my phone (posted a few vids). Amazing you can play such a classic game on the go now.
Never been into wrestling, though I sort of enjoyed it when I played Smackdown vs Raw on PS2 with friends. However, listening through it's history, I'm interested in trying this franchise.
I highly recommend doing some extensive research into how these games work as it can be a little awkward transitioning into FP from what you might be used to in WWE games. There's some in depth guides from Fire Pro Returns that'll explain some of the nuances of the game which all still apply into Fire Pro Wrestling World.
That was more than 5 years ago, and I didn't play it for more than an hour. That was the only time I played a WWE game. Still, thanks for info. I'll keep that in mind.
jim spagg same here brother. Here's a kicker though, I first saw it visiting the local head shop in upstate NY as a teenager when I had to wait my turn between the blue meanie and supernova before they handed off a controller and slaughtered my button mashing ass. 6 months later I had a saturn, 6 man scramble from Japan's and was putting in work!
Do you still watch wrestling, Kim? You seem to be very up on current events, and if I'm not mistaken, seem to have a prediction for the Summerslam main event in game. (Braun, Joe, Brock and Roman.)
If you're interested in wrestling games you should check out indie developer MDickie's games. In fact, just check out his whole catalogue, it's completely fascinating and I'd be super interested to hear your opinion!
I'm so happy that unlike Fire Pro Returns, this game did come out in where I live, given that this is a Steam title that's available worldwide, which I do enjoy quite alot.
I started out in life with Tag Team Wrestling then moved on to Mat Mania and Pro Wrestling NES.. FPWR is the only wrestling game I currently own.. One of these days I gotta get the timing down which is something I couldn't do on the GBA version I had.. But in all honesty I'm more of a boxing guy than wrestling.. How about reviewing Victorious Boxers series next?!?
This game is great, I'm a fan of all of them. I just wish I understood Japanese so I can fully enjoy some of the earlier entries😂. I just wish they would put this on the Switch for portability. I'm glad they've kept it essentially the same but I do wish they would somehow add some small stuff like being able to slam someone through the commentators table or a hard one match that goes outside the arena but with the exact same gameplay of course.
Kim, please, please, please do Elite . It's got an interesting start in the bedroom programming 80's right through to the present day. Please mate, your stuff is amazing and so well researched, edited etc. Pretty please mate.
Been having a blast with this game so far. Already created and released a few characters to the workshop, though most aren't real Wrestlers (as any I would want to create are already done better than I could have probably made them). I did create Harry Valdez, the guy who Hulk Hogan threw helplessly around the ring in his official WWF debut match back in 1979 :P One highlight moment was assembling the entire cast of the NES Pro Wrestling and pitting them all against each other in a massive Battle Royal. While even the Great Puma was involved Fighter Hyabusa ended up being the last man standing.
Great video Kim! I've always been interested in fire pro games but always kept my distance. May give this one a bash on the ps4. I'm surprised mugen is still going these going these days. I use to make characters for that in the early 2000's!
just when I was about to write to you on your FPR retrospective about your thoughts on this... you get ahead and answer the question before it's even asked! have you developed ESP? (LOL...) seriously, tho, I personally can't wait for this bad boy to come to consoles! yes, I know I can get it now on Steam Early Access, but I'm kinda old-fashioned that way! stay pretty and awesome, Kim!
Fire Pro is so strong in what it provides that it really ducks any kind of serious scrutiny about its limits. There's been no substantive improvement to the actual gameplay since Super X Premium in 1996. Can't do ladders because that would involve some actual creative programming to make it work on an engine that wasn't designed for it. Ditto table matches. These have been in wrestling for twenty years but Fire Pro can't figure them out. The engine doesn't really simulate MMA all that well, it wasn't designed for that, it was designed to be inclusive to 90's Japanese shoot style promotions but modern MMA is nothing like that. There hasn't been any improvements to regular matches either-- you can't chain moves into one another, the hit boxes are ridiculously finnicky leading to wrestlers looking idiotic until you've mastered a given character, there's no skill involved in reversals, and the game STILL has ridiculous bullshit in it like going up for a top rope move to have your opponent get up AND STAND THERE STUNNED. The current game is basically a sandbox to make your own wrestling game/wrestling promotion simulator so you go on Steam click on 500 things in the workshop and hope that what you want isn't behind $120 dollars worth of DLC that should be in the base game because this is a jumped Super Nintendo game on sale in 2022.
Yeah, I like Fire Pro too, but it stagnated long ago. I spent tons of time on Returns on the PS2, and then World really added nothing to it besides quality of life improvements. I don't really wanna download all the wrestlers I already created in Returns and to the same thing over again. These days I'm back to the AKI games. The grappling mechanics are at least as good, arguably better, the engine is more complex, and each new game innovated on the last.
The fighting in this series is better than most or all of the MMA games I have ever played. Keep in mind that is coming from a tactical standpoint. If you are looking for flashy action, this is not the right game for you, but if you want a more strategic fighter, then this just might be your next, favorite game.
Actually, Fire Pro Z, the first PS2 game with its time traveling historical story mode, was billed as the last Fire pro. The box art was simple text reading 'thank you Fire Pro. Goodbye Fire Pro.' Returns was, as the name suggests, a one off 'best of' kind of game for fans that they kind of had to knew wasn't going to do well given the state of the business in Japan at the time.
Chris Charlton I agree, I have Fire Pro Z on eBay, since last year and I saw some new wrestlers in Fire Pro Z including Hiroshi Tanahashi, Naomichi Marufuji, KENTA, Morishima, and many more, and some people made their actual first video game appearances such as Shinsuke Nakamura and Low Ki, and there's new American wrestlers like Steve Corino, Tom Howard, Michael Modest, Scorpio, and many more American wrestlers, and I enjoyed Z!
I know that Kim still in the loop of pro wrestling and thankful I subbed to her channel in 2012 and the business in the west should be the best it is now and roh is the best in the west
Haven't played FP since SNES emulation in the 90s. Used to create bizarrely coloured freaks to repeatedly piledrive my brother (and also in the game). Can't wait to watch this to find out whether the new one holds up, and to understand more about this series. Wish the WWE 2K games had a great grappling system :(
A couple of years ago i got a pce bundle on ebay. I have the firepro game but not being a wrestling fan i kinda just put away that hucard thinking it could be good for trading. Now ya kinda sold me on playing it kim. :)
When the full game is done, which- well, I think Spring of 2018 may be a good guesstimate. They're still doing a bunch of little tweaks and the Ring Management feature, whatever it is, has yet to materialize, but I'm betting that's the last piece of the puzzle.
I love FPW. I've been playing them for years. I just wish they would add a career mode to these newer games. Even a basic one without a story I'd be happy with.
I'd heard of Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, even before seeing your review of it, but didn't have anything to play it on. So when I saw this was coming out, I resolved to play it, provided my laptop could handle it. (Damn thing's near 5 years old and- well, it gets a little hot but yeah.) The big allure for me was speed, really- the WWE series just has a certain bloat to it, and while FPW is more of a simulation it also just sort of breezes along. I'm surprised how quickly I've picked it up. There's still work to be done on documentation and the UI and so on (alongside some glitches here and there) but I am hooked.
BarryBigPlums I miss the Undisputed games so much. For as creatively bankrupt as Yuke's has been since the late Smackdown vs Raw games, they sure made some fun MMA games.
Ive just discovered FPWW, Im so sick of WWE2k BS and Ive been watching alot of review videos of this game. I like it!! But I really need to know if the champions carry their belts in their entrances and if they can have more than 1 title at a time. Do they carry them and do they carry more than 1 title?? Please let me know, thanks!! Great review!!!
FPWW still has some kinks to work out, but it is fast its way to being the best Fire Pro Wrestling experience ever, and I'm glad to see it happen. 8:50, yeah the Fire Pro HD Hoax. I was there on the Fire Pro Club forums when that went down. I even spread the rumor around to a few forums, eagerly believing the guy responsible, and wound up feeling very foolish. I was young , and a lot of people were open to the hoax being true due to how desperate they were for a new game AND the fact that Spike/Chunsoft had communicated with some veteran forum members during the localization of Fire Pro Returns, so it wasn't quite as far-fetched sounding at first glance.
Been play fire pro wrestling 2 on gba. That games bad ass. Can't wait to get a PC so I can play world. Then I may have to get a ps2 and order revolution.
If you liked this then think about having a gander through my social media, and get yourself on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/KimbleJustice
YOU forgot to add Fire Pro Wrestling Z!
Firepro is the Sensible Soccer/Pro Evo of wrestling games. Amazing gameplay and deep editing suite in favour of polished graphics and licensing.
Great rundown of the series! I discovered it via emulators in the late '90s and Fire Pro on the GBA was the first GBA game I owned (along with Circle of the Moon, both purchased day one).
Clearly all of the RUclipsr/Wrestlers should comment on this video. Good to see you around...now where is 8Bit Eric's comment? LOL
I couldn't resist!
I'd never heard of the Fire Pro series until you first mentioned it a few years ago. Having played most WWE games from the 90s onwards I was looking for an excuse to play a Fire Pro game. Now I've got an excuse. :D

Just got this on ps4 store for 26. I watched this ages ago. So you def sold me
Thank you for this awesome FPW history lesson!
Okay, I was enjoying the video, and then I noticed... I'm pretty sure that was my own Yokozuna CAW around the 15 minute mark. :D
Awesome.
Your review convinced me to give it a go. Even just watching simulated matches is very fun and often quite intense. Thanks for an informative review 👍 Look forward to diving further into this gem!
Thanks for this excellent vid Kim - and I'm utterly delighted with how good this is looking
Dat Hayabusa theme though. I walk away from almost every Kimble video with some urge to listen to (usually video game) music from my past, but this time you really hit me in the feels, unexpectedly! Awesome as always!
Hayabusa was AMAZING!
I am so glad you mentioned Suda's involvement with the series. It's the only way I discovered Fire Pro, all because I wanted to know what else that genius worked on!
Kim, you are truly a gem.
This was an awesome video. Been wanting to play some Fire Pro since around 2012, but never had the chance. Loved the history portion of the video.
The potential of Fire Pro is probably the most insane thing a video game can be if you implement a like a battle-net situation. Crazy online live community features. U can view live matches and actually see your wrestler standing in the crowd type stuff..
Great video , I’ve recently bought this on my PS4 and have been totally won over by how amazing it is.
Any video that somehow includes Dungeon of Doom Kevin Sullivan is worth a thumbs up.
And "The Yetay!!!"
Thank you again for another great VG Documentary.
I can really tell you are passionate about this topic. I've loved the FPW series since I first was able to emulate the SNES versions back in the early 2000s. Then I bought the GBA version as soon as I knew it existed. I always loved this game series.
I also really loved the Hayabusa music used in one segment. LOL. He was a great performer!
Nice selection of 90s puro clips. Misawa KO'ing Hansen is one of my favourite moments ever.
I would like to say I'm one of those poeple that's having fun with the game. Reviews from you, allie rx and others made me interested in it and I'm glad.
Really solid video :) I've been doing retro Fire Pro related videos lately and it's been awesome going through the history of such a cool game
It wasn't a review, it was a full documentary mixed to a review and I LOVED it 🤩
Thanks for this video, you sold me on this game
Love a bit of Kim Justice. Finally got round to playing this game years after buying it.
Fully agree. I knew about the series since the SNES days but didn't care much for it until I played the GBA game. Moved on to the PS2 edition later, and still play it often. It's the only series that has gotten wrestling *right*.

Good to see that I'm not the only one who spends most of their time on FPW just simulating matches. It's so damn enjoyable.
the dreamcast version has a fan translation
You ever try Wild Rings for the Xbox? Would love to see a review of that.
Your wrestling game reviews are awesome
Oh, love you, Kim. 4:26 in Argentina and totally worth it.
Kim your content is very unique, & well researched. Highly impressive, if you ask me.
I recently unsubscribed from "professional gaming journalists", who used VGCHARTZ as a "legitimate source."
Keep up the good work.
P.S to support what you said earlier about Aki. Their most famous game is Def Jam: Fight for NY. One of the best fighting games ever made imo.

A well done video. We needed to be educated or reminded of how great this series is. 👍
You make damn good reviews. I'm going to subscribe
Had fire pro on the Saturn and dreamcast, loved them. Had to get this version. At the moment a little underwhelmed, no matter who I play as I find myself wrestling exactly the same way. While in other titles different people handle differently

How do I get all the WWF/WCW wrestler in DC FOR PC?
@Kim Justice what game is that at 0:55? it looks amazing. Is it Fire Pro?
That was just a little live action shot Spike did for the Fire Pro World trailer :)
Awesome vid! I must of put hundreds of hours onto fpw:six man scramble for the saturn.
jim spagg same here brother. Here's a kicker though, I first saw it visiting the local head shop in upstate NY as a teenager when I had to wait my turn between the blue meanie and supernova before they handed off a controller and slaughtered my button mashing ass.

I was hoping to find a good review of this, but wasn't finding one from someone familiar. BOOM! A Retronaut.
If you're interested in wrestling games you should check out indie developer MDickie's games. In fact, just check out his whole catalogue, it's completely fascinating and I'd be super interested to hear your opinion!

will there be a career mode?
I've already paid for Fire pro wrestling world in full. I'm running to gamestop to pick up my copy. Oh hell yeah FPW is back!
I've wanted this since it was announced but my Laptop is on the fritz. Any word on the PS4 date? I wanna have it on both Steam and PSN.
Great video by the way. Amazing editing.
Kim, please, please, please do Elite . It's got an interesting start in the bedroom programming 80's right through to the present day. Please mate, your stuff is amazing and so well researched, edited etc. Pretty please mate.
Been having a blast with this game so far. Great video Kim! I've always been interested in fire pro games but always kept my distance. May give this one a bash on the ps4.
I'm surprised mugen is still going these going these days. I use to make characters for that in the early 2000's!
Will this game be only on the ps japanesse accounts?
just when I was about to write to you on your FPR retrospective about your thoughts on this... you get ahead and answer the question before it's even asked! have you developed ESP? (LOL...)
seriously, tho, I personally can't wait for this bad boy to come to consoles! yes, I know I can get it now on Steam Early Access, but I'm kinda old-fashioned that way! stay pretty and awesome, Kim!
I cant wait for it to arrive for the PS4....it's gonna be awesome!!!!
Also, the people who only "play" this game by watching simmed matches give me the willies.
I'm not interested in wrestling but love mma, are the mma parts alone strong enough for a purchase?
The fighting in this series is better than most or all of the MMA games I have ever played. Keep in mind that is coming from a tactical standpoint. If you are looking for flashy action, this is not the right game for you, but if you want a more strategic fighter, then this just might be your next, favorite game.
Thanks, I'll give it a look.
what the deal with the megadrive version ? (gaiden)
Great info! Thank you!!!
I absolutely love this game! 30 dollars well spent! Never played a fire pro game before. Don’t know what I was missing.
Just last week I ordered FPW2 for the super famicom online. I had no idea it had this sort of following.
I would suggest FP2 on GBA and play it on the Gameboy Player on a Gamecube.
Actually, Fire Pro Z, the first PS2 game with its time traveling historical story mode, was billed as the last Fire pro. The box art was simple text reading 'thank you Fire Pro. Goodbye Fire Pro.' Wish the WWE 2K games had a great grappling system :(
Tom Kay IMO one of the best grappling system is from the WWF wrestlemania 2000, wcw vs nwo world tour. the aki system.
great work on the video.
Can you do wrestling revolution 3d on steam next please. Its an amazing wrestling rpg.
I love the 2D one
And when I heard a new Fire Pro was released on Steam, I said, "Shut up and take my 20 dollars!" 💲😁
no six man scramble?
Or Fire Pro Z.
Orion Assante
Or 'Iron Slam '96', the first 3D FPW game.
FIRE PRO WRESTLING WORLD COMING TO PS4 AUG 2018....CAN'T WAIT!
Why are all the wrestlers the same height and weight?
Fire Pro Wrestling 6 Man Scramble i miss that game. And there should be a 30 man Royal Rumble
The Dungeon of Doom was not the doldrums! It gave us the YETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
_Nothing stops the rotation._
thank u kim you are AWESOME. :-)
A couple of years ago i got a pce bundle on ebay. I have the firepro game but not being a wrestling fan i kinda just put away that hucard thinking it could be good for trading. Now ya kinda sold me on playing it kim. :)
When does this come out on PS4???

Yeah FPWR plays OK on PS2 but was much better when re-released on PS3, good saves out there for throwback and current rosters.
"Do you want to see if Asuka can..."
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES...
Wait! I can be The Undertaker AND Mark Hunt!? Fuck yeah!!!
@Kim Justice NEVER Played Fire Pro... But simple as - SOLD!!!! YOU HAVE CONVERTED ME!!!!
The ea sports UFC games are pure trash.....I'm glad you think so too Kimble
BarryBigPlums I miss the Undisputed games so much. For as creatively bankrupt as Yuke's has been since the late Smackdown vs Raw games, they sure made some fun MMA games.
Yes I agree mate
Pride FC game on PS2 was good. I still remember the beginning of the matches " judge...judge"
Besides this game series the only games I play wrestling wise is the THQ N64 games like WCW/NWO Revenge(my favorite) and WWF No Mercy
Pre-ordered the deluxe ed. On PS4.
I'm still not sure of the new game. O might wait till its on sale.
WWF Royal Rumble was pretty good, though. It was no Fire Pro, sure, but it was a fun game to play
Virtual pro wrestling 2...plz review...such a underrated game
10 man tags should be a thing in this game.
Been play fire pro wrestling 2 on gba. That games bad ass. Can't wait to get a PC so I can play world. Then I may have to get a ps2 and order revolution.
I think I only played the two Fire Pro GBA games once. Editing and watching, on the other hand...
