You are correct that the text says their hair was like women's hair. I'm sure it was hard for John to put in human terms how horrible these locusts from the Abyss looked like. The main point is that they were limited in their torture to only those without the seal of God on their foreheads. What a great God we have that protects His people from these locusts.
