At our July 2024 meeting we had terrific time "getting away from it all" by strumming, picking, and singing The Beach Boys' summery 1988 hit, "Kokomo." Huge thanks to all who came out and made the evening so special! Special thanks to Aaron Lewis for keeping us on the beat with his U-bass!

For some unknown reason this video came up on my feed. I like the Beach Boys, so I opened up this video. I noticed it said "Ukulele" and thought, "Oh, I'll bet this is a lame joke of a video!" But I started it up thinking I'd listen for a few seconds and laugh at it. Funny thing though, I listened to the whole thing. Here was a large group of people having more fun than I'm having. I was enthralled to watch the joy on their faces. I really enjoyed the video. So here I am sitting humbled that I thought I was above their playing and instrument. I was schooled!

To expand on @victoriaLemay, I looked up the unusual percussion instrument called the Vibraslap (a contemporary version of the quijada) that was played at time stamp 0:34. It's usually played with the ball end on top but either position works! It's a cool instrument so I wanted to pass along the info to others who may also have been curious.
