  • Henrico County is becoming a destination for cricket because of the high quality of its playing grounds, or pitches.
The Central Virginia Cricket Association hosted a youth tournament that included matches at Henrico's Deep Run Park, Duncroft Castle Point Park and Wilder Middle School. The competition, held in late May, attracted teams from as far as Northern Virginia and Maryland for matches in the under 11, 13 and 15 divisions.
"Our community has representatives from all over the world, and, with that, comes all different sorts of interests ...," said Matt Reynal, assistant director of the Henrico Division of Recreation & Parks. "So whether it's playing cricket, soccer, rugby, baseball, softball, we're able to offer it all."
Because Henrico maintains its athletic fields at such a high level, cricket players are able to practice proper game techniques and experience matches as they are meant to be played, according to players' families and other supporters.
Cricket, which uses a bat, ball and strategy similar to baseball, will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 summer games in Los Angeles. To learn more, visit olympics.com/en/sports/cricket/. Information on the Central Virginia Cricket Association is at cricclubs.com/CentralVirginia....
